Rose is a girl living in the old days where Pokemon roam wild, and modern day cities do not exist. However, people do bond with a companion Pokemon (think Pokemon Ranger here), and tribes and villages exist.
Rose lives in a close knit forest tribe, and our story starts with her as a 7 year old girl.

Chapter 1
Rose ran as fast as she could, running past tree after tree. She heard the bark of the tribes Growlithe as it chased behind her. "Ha ha! you'll never catch m-Oof!" Rose tripped over a branch sticking out of the ground and fell flat on her face. She pushed herself up as the Growlithe finally caught up and began to push his head against her.
"Alright, alright. I'll pet you Growlie." Rose said with a smile. She felt herself start to wonder yet again why this Growlithe couldn't be her companion. "You're my best friend, right buddy?"
"Arf!" Growlithe responded with a nod. Rose sighed and pushed herself up. She knew it was time for her to start heading home, but she loved being alone out in the wide open forest. She let out another sigh and turned to walk back to the tribe, the Growlithe close behind her feet.

"Welcome back little Rose." The tribes elder greeted her. "Ah, so that's where Growlithe ran off to!" Growlithe ran to his owner and began to rub against his old pants covered legs. "Come now. Dinner is nearly done." He took her hand and together they walked to the Dining Hut.
The Dining Hut, as everyone called it, was a large tent shaped building made from various trees and grass. In this tribe, Pokemon and people were never harmed, no matter what the situation. Rose went to her seat on the long wooden bench, tucked safely between her mother and father. She waited while the cooks brought the hot soup down the table, serving the hungry tribe their food.

In the tent next door to this one was the place where the companion Pokemon were always fed. While the various Pokemon were greedily eating their food, a lone Ralts was standing in the door peeking her head inside, while her stomach let out a faint rumble.

Chapter 2
As the tribe finished eating, Rose and her family made their way to their little hut. They walked through the empty door frame - the tribe never did see a reason for doors - and Rose's mother grabbed the washing bin and began to fill it with water.
"I'm goin' to bed." Her fathers gruff voice broke the silence.
"Night dear."
"Night Daddy." The mother and daughter said simultaneously. Rose removed her white cotton dress and boots and sank into the lukewarm water. She relaxed as her mother began to clean her up.
"Mommy, how did you meet Pidgey?"
"Well, there isn't much story to be told there. It wasn't paying attention to where it was going and flew straight into me. I asked it if it wanted to come home with me, and he's been my partner ever since." She answered. "Now I want to know something. Why did you ask me that?"
Rose sighed and looked down at the water. "Well, I've been wanting my own Pokemon, and I just wish I knew what to do to make it happen now!"
Her mother began to laugh. Rose loved her mother's laugh, it was beautiful sound that was always filled with true happiness. "Oh Rose, is that what's been bothering you lately?" Her mother rubbed the top of her head fondly. "I promise you, it'll happen when you least expect it my child."

Rose made her way through the woods the next morning to go and collect some water for her mother. She was skipping along and humming some random song she was making up on her little journey. Suddenly, a pitiful little cry came out of nowhere.
"Hello?" Rose called. "Hello?" She scanned the surrounding area as best she could, but due to the density of the forest she couldn't see anything other than trees.
"Ra..." The cry was...behind her? She spun around and saw a glimpse of something run into the bushes. Rose dropped the water bucket and took off towards where she had seen it disappear in. She made her way through the bush and stopped.
Did the forest always look so dark off the path? Rose trembled. She shook her head, trying to calm herself down. She had to see what had happened to whatever it was she was pursuing. Swallowing her fear as best she could, she pushed forward.
"H-hello? Whatever you are, I won't hurt you." Rose whimpered. "Please come out already. I wanna go home." A tear ran down her face, and she clutched at her throbbing stomach. Finally a figure came into view, and Rose wiped her eyes and began to run towards it.
