Raid-style multiplayer (or multi-trainer) battles are looking poised to become a pretty permanent, or at least long-standing, feature of the series. I’d be surprised if they took a mainline gen game off at this point.
I like them well enough, at least in concept, but I still personally don’t think they’ve quite nailed integrating them into the game experience in a way that feels seamless or compelling. As somebody who’s nearly totally ambivalent to them, they can seem a bit impenetrable at times and I can’t help but feel the games could be better about onboarding and making them feel like a worthwhile activity to seek out.
I have my own ideas about what they could do to fix this but, as previously stated, they aren’t really rooted in me being all that passionate about or experienced in this aspect of the games… so I feel like there’s a decent chance my understanding of what could constitute improvement might be a bit lopsided.
For that reason, I’m curious what others think could be done to improve or make this part of the games more fun, exciting, and dynamic!
Personally, I’d really like for them to try and tackle these as some kind of “roaming field boss” style encounter. Having large, immensely powerful Pokémon disrupting your exploration on the map, forcing you to either challenge them to a raid battle or find a way to avoid them, sounds fun and exciting to me!
What about you?
