Well, with the coming of december, the 2005 Atlantic Hurricane Season has at long last drawn to a close.

As a result, I will be closing down this forum and merging its threads back in Outside the Box once Tropical Storm Epsilon dissipates (unless a new named system is active by then).

Just wanted to keep you all posted.

What will be the new Current Event? :(

Dunno. Anything going on that may possibly warrant one?

We could have one for Christmas and whatever else is being celebrated at this time of year.

Well, the '06 election has basically started. I guess that could be the new current event.

Nah. (US) Presidential elections, yeah, but senatorial races and whatever are a wee bit too small.

An Holiday Season 05 forum sounds good, though.

According to Wikipedia, we have the following to be excited about:

* December 7 - European Union TLD .eu is to be launched, and replace .eu.int. Initially only for business purposes. On April 7, 2006 EU citizens can also register .eu domains.
* December 9 - The final day of service of London's iconic Routemaster buses.
* December 15 - The first parliamentary elections under Iraq's new constitution.
* December 16 - The £140m extension of the Docklands Light Railway in London, linking Canning Town to North Woolwich and London City Airport opens.
* December 31 - The first leap second since 1998.

That's because it is part of Holiday Season 05. :p

The hurricanes just refuse to give up therefore this thread refuses to go down. lol!

A part of me really wants to see the list exahusted. What a freak of nature that would be.

I want to see two more major hurricanes so we break that pesky major Hurricane record. We've broken just about every other record but not that one.

The Weather Channel were talking about how late the season can go and the latest was about Decmember 20th.

Hurricane Omega hits shores on December 25. And every overly-vocal religious leader never shuts up about it. I'm calling it now.

We're never going to reach Omega, thank God.

Watch us hit Omega just because we say it can't. They use to say we could never exhaust the 21 names.

We're never going to hit Omega (because we're switching to the 2006 list in 24 days), but that damn witch Epsilon is STILL at it.

The REALLY scary possibility right now is for the 2005 season to finish late...and 2006 (which all signs identify as another monstrosity) to follow up with an early start, making essentialy 2005-2006 into essentially one large season.

Hopefully the waters will finally get cold enough to prevent that, but after watching Epsilon defy the laws of meteorology like nobody's business these past few days...

I should be noted the 2005 season was forcast to be near average.

Now they're forecasting
17 Named Storms
9 Hurricanes
5 Major Hurricanes

The season average for major Hurricanes has been raised from 2 to 3 thanks to the massive number of Major Hurricanes in the past few years.

It could be possible that Global Warming will make the water Temperatures warm enough to support Tropical Systems year round.

What's really scary is that many Tropical Systems this year formed over water that had been considered too cold to support developement. So we could be looking at the entire book on Tropical Systems being rewritten after this nightmare season.
