I got a USB drawing thing (what's the proper name for one of those? I wanna say "tablet" but everyone thinks ipad) for Christmas but I've been so busy that I haven't started using it until today.

I've been planning a webcomic to post here for like over a year but I wanted to make it actually look semi-good. Unfortunately, I am not AT ALL used to using this thing yet so my practice drawings were pretty mediocre.

What program do people use for drawing comics etc.? At the moment I'm just using Paint. I want to get something else but I don't want to buy something and then realise that it's not really the right program for what I want to do. What's your opinion on the most useful software for this kind of thing?

In exchange for your helpful advice, I will allow you to laugh at my awful attempts at drawing Gold. Here they are.

First attempt at Gold:

Gold meets Team Rocket... sort of:

Just depends ma'am, I use either GIMP 2.6, SketchBook (what kinda table did ya get? Mine came with this, and if you got yours new, it should've came with some drawing programs), or Photoshop elements, but mostly the first two.

Basically anatomy is the apperent problem here, but I can't really say that as I have a problem with it kinda. But it's good for a first try drawing on a tablet.

Mine is a Bamboo. It came with its own programs which I've tried but didn't seem particularly good. I might have to look into GIMP or SketchBook... Do you have a preference?

Thanks! I'm trying to draw with a more cartoonish style. I've gotten a bit better at using the tablet since these drawings. I'll probably post some more in a few days.

GMa, those are awesome! XD

I thought about buying one of those.

I use GIMP, but I would wait until 2.8, unless ya can deal with the clutter of windows for tools and etc.

Thanks, man! You definitely should. Takes some getting used to but it's really good! Would love to see whatever you come up with!

Thanks to your advice, Godo, I investigated and discovered that my pad did come with some drawing software! I just had to download it for some reason... it was free though. It's called "Sumo". It's pretty good so I'll probably just use that. Thanks for your help!

I always just call mine a tablet, and when people get confused I scold them for not knowing that drawing tablets are much older than iPads =P

I use GIMP, my Bamboo came with Corel Painter and a ton of other drawing programs, games, etc, but I prefer GIMP over anything (including P.S)

People not knowing what a drawing tablet is is an eternal source of frustration to me too.

I might have to look into GIMP then. It's becoming increasingly evident that Sumo (the program that came with my Bamboo) is basically a cheaper imitation of another program... probably GIMP.

GIMP is fabulous, but if you feel like spending money Paint Shop Pro is great too, I'm still using Paint Shop Pro X and it's fabulous. I really like your style so far, it's cute :>
