That's right folks... Gamefaqs, which you all know and hate, is now a featured article on Wikipedia. Enjoy laughing at, or bitching about it.

Hate? I never hated Gamefaqs. Lol @ people always finding reasons to hate every site.

Granted their boards are pretty weak, but if you Gamefaqs-haters can name one site that's truly better for finding walkthroughs or getting game help, I will commend you and never go there again. Until then you haters just look like those pathetic douches that waste their time looking for flaws in every site.

I honestly don't hate it, but I do know that others do and would be interested to hear this.

People hate on gamefaqs? Why? I mean, their actual game FAQs are mostly rather good and comprehensive. For the games I've played, at least.

I'm missing something important here.

I'm rather certain that all of the hate is directed towards the idiots that make up the boards on the site - their numbers being many and overwhelming.

The gamefaqs actual faqs and guides are very good, I've used them since the N64 era.

Its just the forums that you have to avoid at all costs.

I think any large online community is going to have lots of idiots on their message board. There must be some kind of chart that proves this too :p. For example, I figured since IGN makes people pay money to use their message board that people who use it would be knowledgeable on games on at least a moderate level, but that is far from the truth..

Anyone who flames Wikipedia over this should think about all of the editors who put in a lot of time to write the article, properly source it, and make it NPOV. A Featured Article is one of the highest quality articles on the site; and an article doesn't have that status for just one day and then get demoted when the next FA of the Day goes up. This article would have been rated as an FA for quite a while. Also, remember how tons of people vandalized Bulbasaur and Torchic when they were featured articles too (IIRC, one vandal actually replaced the image of Bulbasaur with a penis).

As an avid Wikipedia editor, I think that instead of getting mad because GameFAQs is an FA, people should appreciate the effort put into this article and just wait to see what will be the Featured Article of the Day tomorrow. Who knows, it could be anything from the Colosseum to List of U2 Awards.

The only thing I'm upset about is their rather blatant fixing of the character battle this year.

Most gamers I know don't really even know what the "L" block is.

Maybe they were tired of Link or Cloud winning it year after year, and they knew because of TP, that Link would win this year.

They really should keep previous winners out of the new tournaments. We know Link/Cloud is going to win if they're in it, so give some other characters a chance.

Can't say I'm a fan of the forums though, as they called me a liar when my friend posted about a strange glitch I ran into with FFVI Advance.

Well, if you're looking for a certain thing in their site content and the best version they have of it sucks, chances are there isn't a site that has something better.

Gamefaqs faqs are pretty damn good.

And the L-block victory?

Never underestimate the ability of large number of people to do something completely inane. Particularly if they're bored with the non-inane alternatives. (IE, another Link vs Cloud endgame)

I mean, how many practicioners of the Jedi religion are there, again?

My biggest gripe about it is the fact that 4chan was responsible for the L block's win.

If not for the fact that they have guides that I use, I would leave the site and never return.

Go 4-Chan. For once we have a contest that end with an interesting result.

This is sorta like when Colbert tried to get everyone to vote at a Hungarian site in order to name a bridge after him. L-Block may not be as funny, but same point.

I don't know anyone that has any real beef with the GameFaq's site unless they've persistently hung out in their forums. Their site is great for game help and that's all it should ever be used for. I was uncertain about where all this GameFaq angst was coming from until about a year ago when the distinction was made clear to me that it was mostly their forum community, not any other part of the site.

I don't see what's wrong with something from Tetris winning a poll. It is, after all, one of the top-selling single games in videogame history.

So people actually voted for a damn Tetris block, which isn't really a person/creature whatever, just cos they didnt want Cloud or Link to win. It doesn't even have a personality for it to be a "character". I don't get why it was even there, it's one of my least favourite blocks in Tetris. It always appears when I want a lower case l block.

If Cloud (and Link.. pfft) keeps winning, perhaps there's a reason for that. I know I voted for Sephiroph in one round, just so I could see a Cloud Vs Sephiroph face off (again). Though I did vote for Aerith at one point, lol. Having a tetris block win over many game characters is just a piss take.

I love Gamefaq, it's been a godsend for me during my recent interest in Final Fantasy. There's a lot in 7 I would of missed out on if I didn't have a look. Though I have ruined my play through of 6, 4 and 2 cos of their walkthroughs.

I love the guides they give at GameFAQs. Marriland's helped me destroy Diamond.

But, the forums SUCK!
