Three employees of GAMEFREAK, the producers of the Pokemon RPGs, are participating in a promotion this and next week via the Global Trade Station (GTS). Junichi Masuda, director, Ken Sugimori, character designer, and Shigeki Morimoto, battle director, will use the GTS through Thursday, and again Sunday through Aug. 30, to search for and trade their Japanese Psyducks for American Ponytas.

Sweet! Another excuse to use GTS. Lately I've been trading just for fun offering exclusives and hard to get starters like Chikorita for Bidoofs. Before I needed to complete my pokedex, but that got tiring so now I'm just doing it to see how many dots I can amass on my globe now.

I wonder if Gamefreak is doing this as a trial run for something bigger...

You guys have mentioned doing pokemon exclusive events, items or even updates [not as likely] via the GTS. I wouldn't be surprised if this were an attempt to set up for something larger down the line.

Yay! I've already put my female Ponyta up. I'm excited and cautious.

@Rayne: Yeah, prolly for an exclusive event, though, I don't know if they can make it foolproof. In the source, it says you might get an errant Psyduck. Even though no one wants a Ponyta, I'm still wary, seeing all of these horror stories about the sadists of the GTS. I think I might get a Psyduck from someone who isn't a Game Freak dev. I sure hope they work the kinks out of any other events like this.

Wait. Thursday. Oops.

Forget the sadists. What you really need to worry about is the 5000-some odd other people who will be trying to get their hands on one of these Japanese Psyducks as well. With only 90 Psyducks being given out, it's basically just a game of luck based around who shows up on whose game. The quality of the Psyduck is even more questionable - it may have a unique move (probably useless except for collecting), it may only be EV trained (you can do that yourself), it may just have a rare berry (maybe good, unless it's one of the unobtainable berries, in which case it's a sick joke), or it may have nothing special at all (in which case you're better off trying to find a Japanese Psyduck yourself).

In fact, the sadists will likely only help you in the end. After all, any extra ID you have increases your chances of winning the lottery, right? It wouldn't hurt to try.

I wonder how many Ponyta are up on the GTS right now. At the same time, how many people do you think are going around trading generic Psyducks for those Ponyta right now to thin out the competition?

A pokemon from Sugimori? DO WANT.

A PSYDUCK from Sugimori? DO WANT.

... but probably will not get. :(

But I have to get one from Sugimori! Sugimori! Ack, I'm foaming. It's sort of like getting some merch. Sure, it might be worth little at first, but when it's signed, it's really valuable. So yeah, I guess I want it for the collectable value.

But then, I think Game Freak is testing the waters with the hackers and all the frauds who will copy those Psyduck OT, hold item, moveset and all. Or Game Freak has underestimated them.

I'll put up a Ponyta for a Psyduck every day until I get one! Or until I get a box full of Psyducks.

I've got a box full of Japanese Psyduck, from when I was trading people for English versions of Pokémon at the Diamond/Pearl tours here in Aus. I wonder if I should get in on this, since I don't have any American Ponyta to trade.

Arch, I'll give you an Eevee egg if you do. For a Psyduck.

=D

Although I bet this is a ploy to catch cloners. Ah well, at least I can get a Pokemon via event, even if it is a Psyduck.

I must have one of these Psyduck! OFF TO THE GTS! *begins tedious process of actually doing one of these and praying nightly to get the right Psyduck*

Edit: Yay! 9:00 on Wensday Night, and I actually get my Ponyta on! I'll check the GTS tomorrow night to see if I got one, and will check Hourly during next week, but there is no one I can see who wants a Psyduck for a Ponyta. YES! The ones I will trade next week are named I(heart)GAMEFREK (closest to gamefreak i could get)

Who's going to clone a random Ponyta?

Is there anything special about it?

Does Canada count as an American game? Techincally in north america.

I can also see people screwing up other's chances by giving their random Ponyta.

EDIT: My wifi keeps having communications error.

Actually a lot less Ponyta for Psyduck than I thought.

Looks like someone may have traded their Psyduck to me for the Ponyta to thin out competetion. I got a level 26 Psyduck named MrMcDonald when I went back to check. Nothing special about it. :(

Same thing happened to me but I know the person did it on purpose the psyduck had the nickname Sugimori with a mad face next to it. ot trainer dylan. that pissed me off because how much difference could a few more people make he would have to have all his boxes full of psyduck to make any difference.

Sigh, I'll need to put Ponyta up for trade for a while...

I got a Psyduck, but I can't discern if it was malicious or not.

My attempts so far have netted me a flock of Psyduck including a Psyduck named 6 and another named Punk'd.
