????? | GAME FREAK

Extracted from the source code, it's labeled as "OGP". But that seems to refer to Open Graph Protocol

"The well known game, played all around the world, is about to be reborn thanks to a surprising collaboration"

Unknown if it's related to XY, but this was the best forum to post it in I thought.

Personally, I think "well known game" is referencing a non-GameFreak franchise, and they're collaborating with whatever company is responsible for the IP.

GameFreak registered "Soritiba" as a trademark last year, translates to "Soriti Horse", a type of Horse Breed.

Re: GameFreak Launches Teaser Site (Unknown if XY?)

lol I googled the word and got taken to here. It was worth a shot. Maybe try kana.

Re: GameFreak Launches Teaser Site (Unknown if XY?)

Well, it's quite close to "Soritia", Solitaire, but I doubt Gamefreak are collaborating with Lady Adelaide Cadogan.

The big idea I've seen thrown around is that it resembles the animals in Harvest Moon.

Harvest Moon is played around the world... but is it in a state to be "reborn"?

Given, "reborn" could just mean another iteration in which they're shaking things up a lot, as opposed to some franchise that hasn't seen the light of day in a while.

Also, for anyone that's thinking of putting stock into such a theory, this is relevant.

It looks like a horse or a donkey. Probably unrelated, but the japanese word for donkey is "roba"

Also, it doesn't really look like a Harvest Moon animal. But after the link Whimsicott posted, idk.

Some people also think OGP might refer to the MMORPG Site OGPlanet.

So, perhaps we're getting a browser-based Pokemon game alongside XY? I could see them doing something like that...not as a replacement of the main game, but perhaps something that's like an improved Dream World?

EDIT: OGP seems to just refer to Open Graph Protocol, so probably not.

It's also possible that the white blob in that picture is just a coincidental shape from whatever random splatter of glow effects they used to make the pic stand out.

Wouldn't that be funny?

I found the "solitiba" url by looking through the source code, but that's gone now. Something that's interesting is that there's two phrases that's on the site:

First is what's shown in the image, the second is the page description:
世界中で遊ばれているあの定番ゲームが、驚きのコラボで生まれ変わる!
世界中で遊ばれているあの超定番ゲームが、驚愕のコラボで生まれ変わる!

The meaning behind both of these are pretty much the same, which makes it odd why there's a difference.

Seems Gamefreak registered a trademark for "Soriti Horse" in November. Well, "Soritiba".

Soriti is a real Horse breed apparently, so...well, that doesn't answer much.

If the character's that new, and it's -theirs- rather than someone else's, I guess it's hard to determine any sort of origin now.

Horse racing is a "well-known game" that's "played around the world"...

Edit: I think a horse racing game would fit all of the criteria, which includes the "Soritiba" url. Including the above, there's also the horse silhouette and any collaboration Game Freak will do to make such a game will be surprising, at least to most people.

Edit 2: The Soritiba url doesn't work anymore.

Hmm... interesting...

Maybe this connects with "the biggest scoop of the century" CoroCoro teased?

"Solity" is a game played around the world.
So this is a Solity game reborn by Gamefreak.

At first I thought it looked like a dachshund, but now I can see it as a cute, chibi horse. Iwata did say when Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem was announced that more collaborations are in the works and the Harvest Moon suggestions have made me think...Pokémon x Harvest Moon could actually be pretty cool, although as it was posted nowhere near the Pokémon part of GameFreak's site (iirc), that seems unlikely.

"the well known game, played all around the world, is about to be reborn thanks to a surprising collaboration."

Isn't Pokemon already a well known game played all around the world? The silhouette seems rather cartoony, so it might be a completely new franchise entirely.

It's pokemon meets Zatch Bell's Ponygon

That's honestly the first thing I thought of, though super duper mega unlikely. The thought is still funny
