In that homosexuality debate with Sorovis and Checkmate a while ago, I brought up the subject of two gay penguins at a New York zoo, but couldn't find any articles about them, even though I KNEW I'd heard of them.

Well, I found one just now. Enjoy.

Iwasrighthah.

Aww, that's so cute :) I guess in a way you could say those penguins and other homosexual animals are more intelligent and evolved that the others, they've lost that drive that sends them crazy once a year and makes them fight to try to have the most offspring. They accepted that life isn't all about having sex and keeping the population alive, it's about enjoying yourself and having fun and what better way to do that then to fall in love?

They're not more civilized, intelligent, or evolved; if no penguins have any offspring then the entire species will die out.

100% of a population cannot be completely gay (aka never sleep with the opposite sex), or that population will end itself in a generation. That's not an anti-gay statement. That's sane biology.

Of course, the odds of every member of a population suddenly turning gay are problably just as unlikely as having every cat in the world suddenly explode.

Of course, I know that.

But saying that gay penguins are more highly evolved than straight penguins is dumb.

That's like saying people who don't like chocolate are more highly evolved than people who do like chocolate, because those who don't like it are less liable to spend their money on it and less likely to become fat from it.

With the way we're going, how long until the earth turn into a giant microwave oven? :-p

Ok, maybe evolved was a bad choice of word, but more, y'know, just less animalistic. More aware that the meaning of life isn't just to reproduce, which it isn't.

There's a reason homosexuals are a minority, there's no risk of a whole generation suddenly going gay and ending whole species. Only the lack of intelligence from other species will cause that, maybe that's the next bad trait we need to work on phasing out.

It is a self-limiting phenomenon, if it is genetic. If there is a genetic abberation that causes the subject to be unable to reproduce, or unwilling to reproduce, then those genes die with the subject.

Of course, there are also non-genetic abberations with the same end result. A waste of natural selection.

Hey, they are sooo are cute :)
My sister's friend has 2 gay budgergiars and they are awesome^^

This whole flock seems to have differences (like the fact that the females dump males). No wonder they decided they were meant for eachother. Maybe they both got dumbed. I've wondered if homosexuality arose from the environment the homosexual is raised in. This could be very true for these two.

I heard they've also found out about lesbian fruit flies. Some females are born with the male sex hormone (but female parts of course). They act like males during mating and go for females. Hormones and enviroment, hey, that's what I thought.

We of course also have the Clown Fish (which actually have three genders). The third genders become males and the males become females is there female dies. And although the third gender doesn't do anything in the mating cycle, males and females won't mate unless they have one. How's that for a strange sex life.

Sex is a very odd practice it is.

When angler fish breed, the male basically becomes part of the female.

Also, I heard shrimp can change gender after sexual activity.

You said it yourself. less animaliistic. Your asking an animal to become less animalistic. I do mean humans. By natural law, reproduction is the primary concern of a biological organism, on the physiological, sociological, behavioral and psychological levels. However, as the only organism on the planet that is primarily rational and logical, we have learned to change natural law. We allow for learning of abilities and behaviors that either circumvent or change natural law for the achieving of other pricniples such as "the good life." NO that's not a new paris hilton show. But, an actual term from cognitive psychology. That is where we change ourselves towards abberant (at least to nature) behaviors. However, and this where the paradox comes in, as we are chanigng nature and it's aspects we dictate natural law and it's both abberant in the eyes of nature and not.

Also, the most likely reason they're gay, is because of the male to female ratio. That's how nature works, not because they choose to.

Then explain why the article stated that they would not leave each other when presented with female mates?

so animals end up gay for a completely different reason than people? that doesn't make a lot of sense.

I have one question for Ketsuban. Do you have a point in bringing up the gay penguins or did you just feel like presenting evidence for a claim you made several months ago for whatever reason?

(No harsh tone intended)
