If there were to be prequels of Red and Blue, what would they be like?

I think it would feature Red and Blue's fathers, and would also feature a stronger, more evil version of Team Rocket.

A younger Prof. Oak and perhaps Gen I's playable characters father perhaps?

Could have Professor Oak's son in it, and it could have all the young gym leader's mum/dad.

Samuel Oak all the way! Or the game where the player is young Alder and the local evil team opens up a portal which can only be closed by sacrificing one of player's Pokemon and the player has to make the decision which one.

It would be a game which foreshadows games from the future (the current game takes place in Kanto). For example:

Certain people will describe Arceus (not by name) creating the universe (foreshadowing DPP). There will be certain mentions of a green like dragon flying up in the sky (foreshadowing RSE). Alder would have a brief encounter with the current player probably saying a Pokemon of his died (foreshadowing BW). Ho-oh would be seen in the credits flying towards what would be Johto (foreshadowing both its appearance in the anime and GSC). Mother of the girl who wishes for a pink Pokemon with flower patterns, will own a Munna which can be spotted as an OW sprite though doing anything in contact with it will lead to nothing (foreshadowing RGBY and BW).

Professor Oak would have to be the character you play as and you'd have other older characters like Agatha that you'd meet during your journey.

I could only see an original trainer (male or female) meeting younger versions of previous gen characters such as Professor Oak.

I don't know why we'd have characters we've never met nor mentioned about (apart from Red thinking his dad would enjoy a video game). Perhaps a distant prequel to DP would work with the PC's dad and Palmer.

For R/B prequels, I think the main PC should be Professor Oak, the original guy who tried to catch 'em all. Instead of a Pokédex, we have a sketch book that he draws Pokemon he meets in, and when caught, makes little notes about them (hopefully they aren't nearly as creepy in hindsight as cutting off a Raticate's whiskers). Agatha would be your rival, and you'll also meet Kurt who traveled to Kanto. Oak and Agatha already have an established story, and it would also be a chance to expand on Agatha and Bertha's possible relation, as well as explore in more detail the fallout between the two.

The thing with Oak is that I can see the inclusion of multiple regions because his fallout with Agatha seems like it would take a bit longer than just one journey. Perhaps Kanto, Johto, Sevii, and a new region adjacent to Kanto and Johto.

Really interesting... The suggestion of sketching Pokemon in a notebook was a great idea. One question, though: What Pokemon would be in it? Because if Prof Oak (or any other NPC for that matter) doesn't even know the first 151 in the first generation, then he/they can't have anything to with the story.

That was basically retconed to "I know they exist, they're just rare" in newer games.

That's actually very reasonable, and I'd like to see that kind of game! Oak as the PC and a sketchbook instead of a pokedex? That's great!! Agatha, Kurt all apprearing, and perhaps even Prof Rowan as one of the guiding NPCs XD.

If Oak as the PC isn't too young, maybe there's also a possibility that a young Giovanni could appear once or twice as an apprentice or something like that. Maybe there could be an earlier Team Rocket with Giovanni's mother as the boss LOL

I could really see this happening. It's not really stretching the truth that Oak and Agitha have a rivalry. They could foreshadow future characters (including Red and his father, also Green), pokemon and the like. Something like this should happen somewhere down the line. Maybe after remakes of R/S/E.

Still say that Oak would have to be the protaganist and from there we'd see older characters in their youth. Depending on how old Oak actually is we could also maybe see the parents of some of the older characters as children doing their own journies. Like Norman or some other Gym Leaders.
