This is my first post on here, so I was just wondering if there were any other like minded people.

I personally prefer the graphics of generation III games such as Ruby/Sapphire, Emerald, Fire Red and Leaf Green. This is because I feel they are truest to the original games, but with a splash of modern colour. I personally would have loved to see a Gold/Silver remake with these graphics, as they were my favourite games in the pokemon series.

Dont get me wrong though, the DS graphics are great it's just I personally preferred the GBA ones.

Does anyone else share my views?

Finally. SOmeone who agrees with me perfectly.

Gen II, Blocky, Loved it. No colour. NOOO!
Gen IV Colour, Loved it. No Blocky. NOOO!
Gem III,

BLOCKY AND COLOUR XD!

The music was the perfect. 8-bit style.

Thanks for making this thread.

And BTW, welcome to the Bulbagarden Forums!

Yes the music! I also feel that Generation III was the last generation where the new editions were decent... I mean Bibarel? Who wants one of those? Haha :p

And thanks for the welcome! I recently got re-obsessed with the games, seeing as it was raining yesterday so I tidied my room... And stumbled upon a box with all my GBA stuff in it! r

Do you own D/P/PT? It ruined the Graphics :(

But HG/SS made it better again :)

Yeah I have Pearl, not gotten around to buying HG/SS but I will definitely give them a look.

This is one of the fews things I liked about Generation III. It did it perfectly in this category. I'm not really a fan of the 3D graphics.

i preferred the way they designed the pokemon in FR/LG tbh. They looked more "drawn" and kinda realistic with the color variety. While in Gen 4 everything looks like its a cartoon :/

I like both gen 3 and gen 4. Emerald is a great game even now, although my HG gets all the play time anymore.

Graphics are meh though after seeing the great 3d-ness of HGSS. However, that is just my opinion :D

Honestly, I don't really care too much about graphics. With the exception of the new 3D structures on the overworld, I didn't really notice a huge change between the graphics between Gens III and IV, with the exception of Gen IV being slightly sharper.

^ Best point. I loved the music. <3

(Gen IV had nice visuals and I'm emotionally attached to Gen II, but I definitely agree.)

when Gen III was new, I loved it.

When Gen IV came out, I thought it was weird. Until I realized how cool it was. Now Gen III looks bad.

Gen III had okay graphics I guess. I just don't like the pokemon animations in emerald. They're too quick. Even Crystal had better animations.

The graphics are simply different. While Generation 4's graphics are more technically advanced, I don't think either generation surpasses the other, as far as overworlds go. It's all up to preference.

What was annoying, however, was the drop in framerate in Generation 4. Generation 3 kept up a steady 60-fps, while Generation 4 maintains only 30-fps.

I did notice the framerate drop, as soon as I started playing Diamond. It seemed slow at first, but now I'm used to it.

Strange, I never noticed that. But yes, Gen III and IV are my favourite- the colour and graphics easily surpassed Gen I and II. And seeing as Gen V is a more 3d Gen IV, I'll probably like Gen V as well.

When I first dived into Sapphire, I was amazed with the graphical level from the Generation 2 games, because not only does everything become more colourful, every Pokemon is given their own graphical sprite in the menu. Well yes, it was great at the time it came out. Of course, by the time we had the Generation 4 games on the DS, then everything on Generation 3's GBA games looked archaic, but it will be a relic in Pokemon games for its graphical level (I think).

Now that I think about it, my favorite graphics probably are from Gen 3. I hate the combonation of 2D and 3D. If part of the game's gonna be in 3D graphics, the whole thing should be. Same thing with 2D graphics. Also, I hated that they slowed the FPS to 30 from 60.

ASDFGFHS. THIS. I cannot begin to explain how annoying it was to go from the much-faster Gen III games to the suuuuper sllllllooooowww Gen IV games. Wah.

I like the graphics in Gen III. They were reminiscent of the original games without having very blocky graphics and scary sprites. I don't mind DPPt/HGSS' new graphics, but I don't find them an improvement, per se. I find them more a difference than anything.
