I was reading ideas for 5th gen abilities and saw where the topic of three abilities on a single pokemon arose. It seemed alittle heated to me, and that got me thinking. How do you think the overall game mechanic could be improved or simply changed? It will be interesting to see the ideas of everyone.

Well, for game mechanics, it would be nice if they changed the entire HM system around. I mean, no one likes having their pokemon waste move space for a required move. They should give all pokemon two sets of moves - field moves and battle moves. Battle moves would be the same ones that we've always used, but field moves would be like an expanded HM concept. They could re-locate the HMs to this category, and there could be some more moves that are classified as field moves that aren't HMs. Like with Sweet Scent, or something similar.

Maybe have the normal 4 (6 in my dreams) attacks, and then have a seperate list like how you said that holds all field moves (as many as they can learn, no limit) that are field only. Something like in Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia. Maybe make it where you have to make your way to trainers that teach the field moves to you.

I don't know about that idea. I mean it would definitely be a dream come true, but it would remove one of the only real important decisions from the game. Since the plot is so set in stone, the current HM system represents the only sacrifice you have to make in the game. You have to choose either to ruin a move slot on one of your strong pokemon, or to ruin a place on your team to carry an HM bitch pokemon. It forces you to actually think about what to do and what will be more beneficial to you. I feel like taking that away would make the game more mindless and boring.

They could always do something else. Still, I don't think that many people like giving up one of their good moves for an HM

I don't like doing that, in fact I hate it. I usually go the HM bitch route. But I really don't like sacrificing a slot on my team either. That is the point of it though; it forces you to make tough decisions that will effect how you continue to play the game.

But didn't the introduction of a move deleter make that a moot point?

No, for a couple of reasons.

First of all, the move deleter wasn't introduced, he's been around since first gen.
Second of all, you still need HM moves right up until the E4, and after if you want to catch legendaries and whatnot. So you could get them deleted, but you'd have to just teach them again.

Wishlist:

*Instead of a stupid base, how about an apartment in one of the tower buildings that you always find in the department store city.

*A return of the underwater enviroment from R/S/E, added to that, how about some underwater caves to explore.

*Sorry, I know people hate this one but, 5 or 6 moveslots.

*A split in attack moves to battle moves and field moves.

*Customizing your sprite in game, I'm sick of looking like I'm mature enough to travel the world, but not enough to dress myself. PS, this is my favorite feature of PBR.

*Field move like Cross from Pokemon Ranger, because bikes are lame.

I like the idea of HM moves being completely eliminated (as a concept, not the moves themselves), and have any move whatsoever that could cut a tree, push a boulder, or do whatever function as the respective field move when you have the right badge.

Examples:
-Cutting trees with Night Slash
-Moving through water with Aqua Jet
-Pushing a boulder with Seismic Toss
-Smashing a rock with Brick Break
-Flying from city to city with Sky Attack

How about instead of moves in slots field moves whatnot how about just using key items *coughcough surfboard coughcough*

Oh and we need better Special type Flying moves.

Tornado - Flying - Special - 80 POW - 100 ACC - 10 PP

It would make my Pelipper happy.

I have an idea for HMs. So, you almost always get the HM BEFORE the Gym. So, you beat the gym, and most water pokemon get the ability to surf. Or, even better, you beat Gym X, and you continue on your journey. By the ocean, there is someone there who offers to teach you surfing.

(Possible minigame? NAW!)

Now all of your pokemon can surf without a move! HMs are transformed into TMs (with the exception of Rock Smash, Cut, Defog) and a few more are added for a grand total of 100 TMs.

WIN.

give pokémons 3 abilities, and give them easier ways to evolve. Maybe an extra ability, which you can buy or something, like in melee pokemon scramble would be cool (like critical hit or something). Also the secret bases like in Gen III should return.

nice idea. Very nice.

Could work, but I don't usually carry around a pokémon with sky-attack. Fly might be more convenient.

As for Cut, how difficult is it just to go around the tree. And suddenly it's replaced, in the exact same spot. It's magic!

I never thought about that oO;;
I remember it even saying in one game that the trees that Cut cuts down are "skinny" or "thin" trees, so the character must have problems if they can't go around the tree.

They are 1:2 head body ratio. It is hard be balance from 1:5 battle sprites. Try being dizzy with weight in your head, and walk in a <2 ft. hole. I like 3rd abilities, and still demand turbo mode for battles. I did invent the idea on this site, afterall.

Excellent, I like that method.
