I heard gen V is ending in 2013 yet we still don't have R/S/E remakes, a BW Ranger game, a gen V Mystery dungeon Game and worst of all no BW 3D arena game. I hope Creatures are secretly working on a 3D arena game that should at least make this gen a little more memorable

There's nothing to really suggest that it's ending that early, people are just saying that. :/

Since when does spin-off games determine when a a generation ends? And since when was this generation underrated? I'm not understanding where you got this information.

Well, there's usually a larger gap between games and generations. But I don't think they're going to make it that short. They're probably planning something.

Also, I agree with X-Strike, underrated? Where did you get that from? This generation might end up being shorter than others, but that doesn't make it underrated.

IMO, the generations should just involve the main line of games; it's own entity, if you will. I'm not one to speculate too much, but I have a feeling that Black Version 2 and White Version 2 will be the end of this generation.

Of the main series games: Gen I and Gen II had three games each, while Gen III and Gen IV had five games each. This has four, and is the only one with sequels and without a third version of the new introduced region because of the sequels. It ending is not really surprising, and 2013 is still 6 months away, not that side games are part of generations, only the main games really. I don't get how it's underrated. They did an amazing job with how much the games changed from the other generations with constantly moving pokemon sprites, and the cut scenes, and so on.

._.

How is not having remakes or the same spin-offs as last gen (even though a lot of spin-off series dies with their generation) making this generation underrated? Do you even know what underrated means?

And as far as the main series is concerned, sequels have done more for the Unova plot (even with its shortcomings) than third versions or remakes ever could. Game Freak shouldn't focus their resources trying to improve the past, but should continue to make our current games better.

As far as I can tell, this generation has been treated better than the past ones with Game Freak actually focusing on their main versions and doing sequels, and even in the spin-off department by trying something new and unique with Pokémon Conquest.

The fact the this gen is the first to have sequels isn't enough to make it memorable, every gen has had at least one 3D arena game the fact that this gen probably won't have an arena game or R/S/E remakes would make this gen easily overlookable in the future

So basically, the fact that this generation did something different, and isn't copying what every other generation did makes it not memorable? I'm sorry, but when did doing the same thing as everyone else ever make anything memorable?

And this generation, the generation that did something new, is going to be overlooked because they didn't bring in remakes of past games to overshadow their current generation games? Sorry, I forgot when they changed the meaning of conformity to "standing out"

Everything you're saying is quite contradictory.

I wouldnt say this generation was underrated at all. This was the first generation to introduce sequels instead of a third game which was new and different. I dont see how not having remakes or a bunch of side games makes a generation underrated or bad, it just makes it different and that it is different than previous ones. A generation dosent need remakes or a bunch of side games, Generation 5 is fine how it is so far.

First you say Gen V is underrated, then you say it's not memorable. So which is it?

If anything, what I'm getting from this topic is that you're the one underrating Gen V because "it isn't memorable."

Indeed. In my opinion Gen V may well go down as the most memorable generation since the first, precisely because it defied so many standards of pokémon.

I've only played one Ranger game, none of the dungeon games, and I haven't played a console game since Pokemon Stadium 1, 2 and Pokemon Snap. Side series and console games do not make the generation memorable, the main series games do. I think this will be one of the most memorable gens to come.

This generation is plenty memorable. I agree that there should probably be more spin offs and such (Mystery Dungeon, R/S remakes, etc), but besides the lack of games it's been very memorable. B/W and the other games were pretty unique to be honest. It's more about quality, not quantity....although I myself would like more games. ^^;

And that's assuming that generation 6 is like right around the corner. I don't know why everyone is assuming that, we don't need an immediate generation shift just because of the 3DS or whatever, seesh.

Like others have stated, you're basing its memorability on the number of spin-offs and remakes of previous titles, which is not exactly a fair representation. There are a lot of factors that go into memorability, for example, the quality of the main series games, which have been phenomenal minus some negative points here and there. Plus, the fact that they've expanded beyond what were considered staples of the past two generations adds to the memorability of the generation, for better or for worse. If in Generation VI, they decide to go back to the traditional format, then I'll always remember Generation V as the one that tried to do something different and either succeeded exponentially or failed miserably, depending on which outcome occurs.

As for the use of the term "underrated," both the words underrated and overrated are used to define one's opinion on the vast and general opinion of others who have played the games, not how long it lasted, in which case, I wouldn't say the Generation is overrated or underrated. (Then again, I tend to avoid using those words in general as they sort of come across to me as expedients to pretend your opinion is more valid if you happen to be in the minority who share an opinion; just my opinion, you may disagree) There are lots of people who feel Generation I and II, or sometimes just Generation I, are the only good Pokémon, and hold a particular disdain for Generation V, but there's also a very reasonable, and probably larger group of people, who are very pleased with the direction the series is going, including myself (bar the plot of the games; B/W was a good game, but after awhile it became mondane and preachy in terms of plot, in my opinion). I personally find it among one of my favorite generations, and thanks largely to Bulbapedia and Bulbanews' (currently in hiatus) "On the Origin of the Species" column, has reminded me of several of the many reasons I fell in love with the Pokémon franchise to begin with.

Of course, the big standout in this case is that it's been suggested that Generation V will end fairly soon. Now, bare in mind, that I don't normally get news very quickly. I'm usually the last person to get the news of a new game or whatever else they plan on releasing, but I have seen no indication based on sales figures or any statements from Nintendo, Game Freak, or the like that suggest that Generation V will soon be ending. If anyone is saying that, then they're really getting carried away, but with what I don't know. However, if the generation were ending relatively soon, I think it more than likely has something to do with the principle of "quit while you're ahead." They would probably just be wrapping it up while the ratings are hot so they don't end up jumping the shark. But again, it's probably not ending in the first place.

un·der·rate [uhn-der-reyt]
verb (used with object), un·der·rat·ed, un·der·rat·ing.
to rate or evaluate too low; underestimate.

And with that out of the way, remakes or spin-off games are not what make a generation memorable. It should be the main series games that make the generation memorable. B/W and B2/W2 have already done this for Gen V.

The only thing that makes this gen underrated is that it's a very polarized one for the following reasons:

- The story
- The broken traditional patterns
- The linear gameplay
- The removal of Third Version/Remake exclusive features until BW2
- The Pokemon designs (can't leave that no thanks to nostalgia freaks)
- Cheren being the first Gym Leader in BW2
- The difficulty curve in BW1
- The new difficulty feature in BW2
- The Dream World
- The lack of the Safari Zone
- The lack of the Game Corner
- The Championship Tournament
- The Musicals
- The level curve for Unova Pokemon
- Dominance of Fighting types and weather in the metagame

I think it's memorable but a tinsy bit disapointing as well.

Black and White was amazing, but didn't quite fill my thirst of Pokemon gaming. While there was an AMAZING story and battles, there wasn't really much of extra features put into the games, and the Musicals where poorly put togeter.

However, we have Black and White to look foward too. And seeing the leaks that Bulbanews, Bulbagarden, and Bulbapedia has put out, these pair of games is truely going to be two times better then there presecdors.

Pokemon Conquest was a good side game with it's great story and graffics, but it comes at the cost at one major thing: The post game.

Despite all these downfalls of the games, I would only want one more spin off game in this Genoration. If they came out with another spin off game, then this Genoration is no longer dissapointing.
