I've been reading through a few threads on here about people's expectations for Generation V. Like the rest of you, I'm looking forward to a remake of G/S, but I suspect that to come much sooner in Generation IV.

The idea I came up for, for Generation V was to rather that set the game in a different region; set it in a different continent. I would recommend a region based on Ancient China. This would lend for some interesting terrain and a chance for some brand new, never before seen Pokemon.

Legendary Pokemon came up in my mind, as one of the first things. Since Arceus sort of topped the list as far as Legendary Pokemon are concerned: I don't want to see another set of God-like Pokemon. Another Legendary Trio would work. Maybe Legendary Dragons (based of Chinese Dragons)?

The one that came to mind the most for me, was a Pokemon based off The Monkey King, from Chinese Folklore. A mischievous Fighting-type Pokemon that is somehow inherent to the storyline.

This is only a rough idea at the moment, but I would like to hear your ideas.

Well, I'm doing RE at school at the moment, and we're learning about Hindu gods. But first the fighting type pokemon could also be like Hanuman, who is apparently a monkey god. The starter pokemon could be a flower pokemon, a meteorite pokemon, and a dolphin pokemon.

The Monkey King = Infernape. Wasn't it obvious (unless it's based off something else)?

I'd prefer a big city in modern day America; maybe base it off New York or Pittsburg or something. So far, everything has just been mostly wilderness; we've never seen a largely industrialized area before. That would be a real change of scenery.

Of course, you have to realize that 90% of these ideas will never happen, and those that do will just be coincidence.

Gen IV already had a Legendary Dragon Trio. (Of course, they didn't appear to be based off of Asian dragons).

Angela is right:

Infernape is based on a monkey. It is also possible that he is based on Sun Wukong, the Chinese mythical "Monkey King". The gold elements in his design seem to indicate this, and his name can also be linked to Japanese interpretations of the character (e.g. Son Goku). Its appearance is similar to the Colobus Monkeys of Africa. Infernape is most likely based off the martial art Muay Thai which uses all the limbs. -from Bulbapedia.

celadon city/saffron city/goldenrod city/slateport city/vielstone city. o3o

also I gave up hope of a G/S remake when D/P came out.

Those are just individual cities that are big comparatively, but are actually pretty small realistically. What I meant was a large city where all the action takes place, though in different parts of the city; think the Grand Theft Auto series.

I don't think they would ever change the formula for the main series games that much, but I think that idea has major potential for a spin off series.

I think what made me laugh is china count as a continent according to the first poster. Anyway i doubt it would be anywhere outside of japan. I mean they have a lot of potential areas to remake into the games.

I don't see why people think Arceus must be surpassed in Gen V. It took them 3 Gens to pass up Mewtwo, so why do they have to pass up the god of all Pokémon within 1?

I meant just the setting, not the crime-based theme. Though it would be interesting; you could play, say, a member of a straight-edge Mafia (e.g. Corleones in The Godfather), or a cop trying to bring down the city's crime factions. A coherent storyline besides "go to every gym, bring down evil faction along the way", and all that.

You're right about them not changing anything about the formula in the main games, however. But there is hope yet for a spin-off game. Not much, but there is hope. It could really attract the older audience, though, especially overseas. The GC RPGs were a good start, but they can do better. Of course, few game company care about any place but their own country, moreso Japanese countries than others. It's the same thing that helped bring Sega down to just a game development company (SoA and SoJ company interfighting)*. There's a bit of leeway in localization when translating, but that's it. :p

*And yes, I know there was other stuff too that was more important in their demise, but this just helps serve as part of my example

Some people are just narrow minded like that. And you're perfectly right: a time traveling pixie, a sea-dwelling bird that causes and stops storms, and some weird phoenix that...uhh...make people happy? Well, they weren't stronger than the ultimate Pokemon. Kyogre and Groudon, maybe, but nothing in Gen 2. There is no obligation for them to surpass what they made in one generation in another.
