does it really matter what gender some of your captured pokemon should have. me personally, i CAN NOT have a male lopunny. it just doesn't feel right. and i also will never have a female machop evolution family member. although, if i want a pokemon with certain moves, i get a female one for breeding. anyway, i know lots of other people that are really picky on what gender their favorite pokemon should be, and some really don't care. so, what do you guys think? who can, and can't you have as being a certain gender

Well, usually only for Zangoose (my favorite pokemon), it must be male, otherwise i don't care.

and i also will never have a female machop evolution family member.

I battled a female Machamp once, it was weird thinking about it.

my main team is entirely female. some of them, like Milotic, Altaria and Roserade, make okay but kinda silly males, and my namesake character has all females for a reason, so I should reflect that in-game. o:

any other Pokemon I have are entirely random genders, like my soon-to-be Cloyster. the first Shellder I fished up just happened to be female.
except my original Milotic and my Emerald team (which is pretty much the same.) they're all girls for the same reason.

I generally like my starters to be male. But aside from the future Typhlosion, It wouldnt matter seeing as they all get boxed in the end.My Espeon's I prefer to be male. But really unless for name reasons could care less.. Cept I have a male Gardevoir(in emerald) which bothers me..
But Female geodudes or dudettes rather, Female Machamps.. Female Mr.Mimes, etc. Technically the games are just filled with contreversy.

that is so true. that's why i don't have female seakings, female kingdras, female mr. mime's, etc. it's funny how i won't want a female seaking, just like i won't have a male goldeen.

In general, I tend to lean toward male pokèmon because male trainers in-game tend to have male pokèmon. On my female trainer's roster, I keep mainly female pokèmon. I tend to favor male physical sweepers. I will not utilize a male Gardevoir, nor a female Machamp. I have a female Venusaur and Butterfree for their markings.

I'm male, but in general, I usually prefer getting female Pokemon for the simple fact it's just easier for me to think up nicknames for female Pokemon then it is for males. There's also the whole breeding aspect as well.

That said, I think certain obvious Pokemon should only be a certain gender, so I make sure to only capture them in that gender. They've already been named in this thread, but I'll list them here for the hell of it:

Loppuny (f)
Gardevoir (f)
Machop/Machoke/Machamp (m)
Mr. Mime (m)

Other not so obvious ones that I try and capture only in certain genders are male Magikarps and female Feebas.

I'm on a personal crusade to end the world of gender stereotypes. So, I take it upon myself to have Pokemon opposite of the expected gender.

Like I'll take male Gardevoir, male Lopunny, female Machop-family, female Kingdra, female Mr. Mime...

I prefer to have my Pokemon starter male, though. Yet starting in Ruby, all of my starter Pokemon were female. I had to restart my FRLG twice to get a male Charmander. When I was trying to get male Squirtle, I restarted 5 times, female Squirtle. I'm serious. ._.

I never care about genders. I only want my starter to be male, and my gardevoirs. I hate all the dicriminating people who have something against male gardevoirs. And I hate Gallade. But really, except for those two, I don't care about genders.

THIS. Although my main team is all-female, during my initial playthrough of Diamond I went out of my way to get Pokémon with counter-intuitive genders. And thus I entered the Hall of Fame with my female Machamp and male Lopunny. It just adds an extra layer of fun to the game... uh, for me, anyway.

It matters if I have a nickname in mind for that specie of pokemon.

I can't have a female named Dayman.

I always make a point of training female Nosepass when I use them. I can never pass up a chance to name a Probopass 'Lady Mucus'.
Otherwise, the stereotype police are yet to capture this felon. Any pokemon I actually plan on training as part of a serious team that look particulary masculine or feminine, I'll likely make an effort to assign the typically associated gender.
Oh, I'm such a swine.

For my dream-team (see signature):

- Flareon (female)
- Crobat (female)
- Banette (male)
- Gardevoir (female)
- Cloyster (male)
- Kangaskhan (no worries -- it's always female!)

Flareon is my favorite Pokemon, so I have to have one that's the same gender as myself -- she's my in-game best friend!

Not sure of why I always want a female Crobat -- maybe I just think of the shade of purple and the graceful flying...

Gardevoir looks like a princess, and Banette and Cloyster are very cool and masculine-looking.

I care about gender when I'm naming my team after people/characters and I want the genders to match, and I also don't want my Pokémon that looks like a cute girl to actually be a male.

eh...... for look reasons, I grab either a male or female pokemon

but mostly, the nicknames I can think for that certain pokemon matches a specific gender lol

I usually have my starter Pokemon be the same gender as the player character. For example in Emerald, I always choose May. So the quintessential Torchic that I choose for her has to be female. In Sapphire though, I chose Brendan, so I had a male Treecko, etc.

The rest, I couldn't care less. Though I always try to have an equal amount of males and females in my party.

For example, my Silver version team was:

Bulbasaur (male)
Dragonite (female)
Scizor (male)
Houndoom (female)
Tyranitar (female)
Feraligatr (male)

If I choose a genderless Pokemon, then I usually have the rest of my party have a 3:2 ratio, favoring the Player character's gender.

As for the rest of my Pokemon, I really couldn't care less what gender they are.

I don't really mind, I like to have my party being balanced...sadly at the moment this isn't really the case as of my Platinum Main Party there's only one female (Raichu, curiously the only one where I TRIED to get a female as I wanted one of each gender Pikachu... so I have a male Pikachu and a female Raichu to breed) 2 genderless (Mewtwo and Giratina) and 3 males (Infernape, Sceptile and Floatzel). Two of them are starters so they have a bigger chance to be male anyway XD But I actually tried to get a female Treecko by soft-resetting on Ruby... but I gave up. (And just minutes later I got a female Torchic without even trying who's my starter on Ruby right now, THAT party is a bit more balanced, I know I have at least 2 females in the Ruby-party)

I don't really care what gender my Pokémon are; I can always breed it with a ditto anyway, although sometimes if I want it to have a specific nickname, I'll aim for one or the other. And Pokémon that don't look like their gender are always a bonus =3
