Gene Simmons son Plagiarizing Bleach

This is hilarious. Did he really think no one would figure it out?

I saw this on ANN this morning, the tracing is really bad and it's ashame (because he is a pretty good artist in comparison to many published western manga-styled artist), but I think it's a gray area. I remember Inoue Takehiko was sued recently from the NBA for coping and allegedly tracing photos for his Slam Dunk comic, but it fell through (I think). Apparently a lot of artist do this in both America and Japan to copy poses or backgrounds, but blatantly copying can get you in trouble (I believe).

I will say that some of the fans are accusing him a bit too much. Having a shadowed face and demonic eyes isn't exclusive to Hellsing, Hellsing was doing it to reference other Horror titles itself; Bleach's Shinji's design also isn't the most original design either, he's kind of an archetype that I can't put my finger on with a 60's vibe; Ulquiorra's release form is a reference to the classic, Devilman. The Poses he traced are actually all generic poses (maybe that is why he thought he could do it), I don't think one should say it like Kubo created them. (But at the same time, they should be poses he shouldn't have to trace because they are so basic)

That said, the Character Designs for the Kenpachi-like Character and the Orihime-like character he should totally get in trouble for. It's just too bad, besides being distastefully angsty and poorly paced (Why he should probably ditch the color) it seemed like a great series.

That's what makes this so annoying for me, I could understand completely being a big fan of someone and learning drawing techniques from their works, that's what a lot of people do, Even myself, I consider the way I draw people to be derived a bit from Kubo's Style, but to the point of directly copying characters... unique characters... on top of Tracing Poses... and having competent skill already... it's just frustrating!

(Plus I just don't get Tracing Poses, I get Tracing to practice, I don't do that, but I can understand that, I get Tracing Backgrounds, when you base it on real places anyways what does it matter, plus it's not the focal-point... but what I don't get is Tracing Poses on the Final Draft. It just seems horribly lazy!

It's worse than Togashi using Writing pens to ink his manga without penciling it! (lol)

I guess, it is also funny because, if you are going to Plagiarize a foreign obscure comic book, you should probably make sure it's obscure and at least not on domestic TV in the first place.

Oh, I had fun with this last night! I love how he said he doesn't know anything about "magma", yet he has stated before that the creator of "Berserk" has been an inspiration to him. And it's not just Bleach, other popular series have been copied as well.

Your honor, I'm afraid I have nothing to say. the evidence speaks for itself. Mr. Idiot Simmons here is guilty for being an idiot and violating copyright laws. In that order sir.

that is bullshit how can he not know about magma that shit heats the inside of our planet
and if he meant manga he knows enough to trace it

Not just Bleach he ripped from. Since the initial accusation went out, people have been finding other rips too. So far the other three confirmed are some One Piece panels, Hellsing, and random art from DeviantArt (yup, he stole from fanartists too!)

Fullmetal Alchemist was mentioned too, but no image was provided for that so it's not proven yet.

What's not helping at all is he's totally denying everything and even insulting the medium (calling it magma).

I think I read that someone hacked into his account (or created a fake account) and made those sets of statements. I'm not sure if he officially said anything yet, which probably is for the best. Shame, Shame, Simmons, Shame!

I don't even like Bleach, and yet I find Gene Simmons' son to be a major moron. Why should he be ripping off something that doesn't belong to him? And he's stealing other people's work too? Nick Simmons needs a kick in the butt.

Oh this is where that "my favorite magma" thing came from? I had heard about this and saw the "magma" thing, didn't realize they were connected. xD Oh, and it's pretty much confirmed whoever posted those comments was a troll, so NO that whole "magma" thing was not really said by him.

Either way, this is just sad. Creativity fail.

Incarnate is as unoriginal of a story as the supposed artist himself...

I've seen some people say that it's just some guy who hacked into Nick's account.
I hope it's true, because otherwise this Nick guy is dumber than a bag of hammers.

What amazes me, is that both he, and his father, think that Nick actually has a case. And he actually said that it could've been coincedence? I doubt that, and even if it just happened these few times, he plagiarized, and that's all that matters.

Tite Kubo, most honorably of him, is taking this calmly.

Last night until this morning, I got a ton of "an American comic is copying Bleach!" messages from overseas fans! Looking at the site I don't speak English, but I saw something like "Gene Simmons' son Nick Simmons who draws manga-style comics." Honestly, more than whether they remble each other or not, I wonder that Gene Simmons' son is a mangaka...

I guess he's just waiting to see where he'll come into play, legally.

I will ask Facebook not to press any charges against you if you give me a sincere apology here in this thread. Please do so. Facebook keeps all your IP addresses and info... so they will suspend your account if I do not receive proper apologies.

Okay.. now looking at some of these photo comparisons, I can see why a few people are up-in-arms. I can tell you right now these are all purely coincidences. I never even heard of Bleach! Who would name a comic after laundry detergent? When I channel my energy when drawing my book sometimes I can pull stuff in that I never seen before. It's like i'm possessed when I start thinking and drawing. Perhaps I just got on the same wave length that all artists share. My dad just called and said I have a real case against all this slander. If Facebook doesn't give into my demands soon there's going to be hell to pay. Now, I have to damage control on another site - more people being mislead. Now I have to deal with this and my book's deadline. I'm not sure how I can think and draw under all this pressure.

I have no idea how people are saying my comic looks like that bleach magma. My book is in color and the other is not. My book reads left to right... the other reads right to left. Besides some vague similarities, they're nothing alike.

He's a spoiled brat, that's for sure. I don't know how many people have joined things relating to this on FaceBook, but he really expects to get an apology from the hundreds of thousands of Bleach fans that can actually make reputable statements saying that the comparisons are uncanny?

Any reputable modern graphic novel artist/author has heard of Bleach, as it's one of the most popular graphic novels in the world. Perhaps he should do his research as well, considering the title "Bleach" is an intended contradiction on Kubo-san's part of the Soul Reaper's uniform being about 80% the color black, in that bleach causes clothing to become white. He should also quit crying; it doesn't look good for someone his age.

And you know what I'm tired of? FaceBook getting unrightfully blamed for "causing" the problems in people's lives. He's making it sound like the reason people are "rebelling" against him on FaceBook is the medium's fault, which by no means, is it. I just heard on the news a few days ago about how women are complaining that their husbands are cheating on them via FaceBook, with the news as well as the women interviewed, blaming both the men and FaceBook.com. In no way is FaceBook at fault. There are merely the medium by which these things have gone about. FaceBook may just watch these things go by, but in no way are they at fault for not trying to halt any conversations. Any conversations that may be up for suspicion are merely just that, "suspicious", and not to mention that it would also be a major invasion of privacy. They really can't intercede, or it wouldn't look good on them from their prespective.

Got that off my chest.
<_>

I was going to say something regarding his comments about how they're vaguely alike, but I can't seem to organize my thoughts on that quite yet. <_>

Did anyone stop to consider that maybe Bleach ripped him off?

Geez, think about embarrassing yourself before you act in such a manner. It's best to not even say anything if you don't know anything of the matter. *sigh* <_>
