Hello all! I'm new to the forums, but I figured this is the place to possibly get an answer to my question.

I'm playing Pokemon Red, and my Eevee leveled up to 32, and...evolved. Into Jolteon. With no stone.

So I didn't save, but I turned off the GameBoy. I have yet to level Eevee up again and see if this reoccurs.

Has this happened to anybody else?

My Eevee is now level 34... No more random evolutions. I have no idea what happened. I was in Pokemon Tower, by the way - I suppose that might make a difference if somebody were to try to figure out how this happened.

It's actually been known to happen. It's not common, but stone pokemon evolving without a stone is one of the known glitches that happen now and then. Don't be afraid to level up. If it does it again, just hit "B". Jolteon is the usual result of said Eevee evolving without a stone glitch. :) Your game isn't messed up, and it's harmless.

I haven't played Red in years... how has it held up over time?

Hey, quick question. Did you switch to Growlithe mid-battle? If you don't remember, try going into battle with Eevee, then switch to Growlithe, and when Eevee levels up, see if he evolves. That's one of the "theories" around said glitch.

Well, if I play a newer game, I have a hard time playing Red. If I take a break from Pokemon for a while, then I love Red. So I just don't play new games. XD

Actually, yes. I was battling a Ghastly, and Eevee couldn't do anything against it... Interesting. Anyway, I have a Vaporeon now (with a stone, of course).

The theory is that certain pokemon share the same hexcode as the stones, and if you use them in battle with Eevee, it might trigger an evolution without a stone. :) Growlithe = Thunder Stone, Onix = Water Stone, Psyduck = Leaf Stone, Exeggcutor = Moon Stone, and Missing No. = Fire Stone. So any Pokemon that require stones for evolving, if you use these pokemon in battle with it, it could trigger. (Clefairy + Exeggcutor, for example) Might not always work, but it's just a fun little glitch. :)

This is so cool!! I love that it's 2015 and I'm still learning about glitches in Red Version :)

I kind of hope all these glithes are left in tact for the downloadable version releasing next month. There's something wonderfully...raw about the first Pokemon games, with all this coding weirdness, that would be lost if they 'fixed' it all.

Yup, it's just the original three games being glitchy as all hell. You will encounter glitches in this game unless you specifically avoid them. Kinda what makes the originals so great, ironically.

Before anyone asks, no. This can't be used to make Yellow's starter Pikachu evolve.
That's the one exception.

I dont hate Pikachu as much as some but god he was annoying in Yellow.

Reasons why I bought Blue on VC instead of Yellow.
1. Pikachu
2. Pikachu
3. Idk I played Blue more as a kid.
4. Pikachu
