Generation V, this early!? Never!

We have Gold and Silver remakes first, surely? :p

Well, it's inevitable. One day we'll see Generation V emerge from the shadows of mystery, and likely it'll be something even more ridiculous than this generation. What I want to know is, what do the Bulbagardener's think will come with the next generation? What kind of Pokémon? What kind of storyline? What do you want to happen with it?

My hope is that it will be reminiscent of generation two. From what I can remember from my days of playing Silver (now long since deceased, sadly), there was a largely mysterious storyline, with mysterious characters and an absence of solid facts. Our rival was a complete anomaly. Who the hell was he? Team Rocket were much darker and more covert than before; they were lost with nowhere to go. The inclusion of Kanto was a complete surprise to me -there were no clues to this whatsoever. I feel now that the locations, Pokémon, characters and the changes to Kanto were shrouded in a mystery that to this day remain unconquerable.
What am I talking about? Well, I don't want to see everything about everyone revealed to me, and I want to be surprised by what's going on in the game. Notice how the Galactic Grunts and commanders keep telling us what they're planning, and they don't seem shady or suspicious at all. They hardly even seem violent. They're just archetypal insane villains with who think they're superior to everyone else.

The Pokémon were insane. Resemblances to real life are getting thinner, and these mental God beings are just over the top. I want Pokémon that look and feel like real things, while maintaining the 'mystery' I mentioned earlier. I also think everything is a lot too bright and happy in the current games, while I remember Silver as being a lot darker, both in colouring and in tone.

What I THINK will happen is the absolute opposite.

A lot of your complaining strikes me as nostalgia speaking. Generation II was pretty bad and had a plot that went nowhere with no resolution.

Generation II was great! :O Each to our own, I suppose. I made no complaint about plot however, just about most other things. You are probably right though, it's nostalgia.

But that's just my opinion. I want to hear others'!

i think theres already a thread for this

I liked the organic quality of the earlier generations. It was a true adventure into the unknown. It felt epic at the end.

But I have no problem with the cohesive storyline in the recent generations.

I would enjoy a story system similar to Legend of Mana. Anyone played that game?

It was the right balance of organic open-ended gaming, w/ a clear directive. And it offered a lot of things even after the initial credits roll through.

But the few things I want above all else:

1) Better transferability of items and monsters
2) Greater customization of individual saves (avatars, club houses, etc.)
3) Simultaneous region free releases.
4) More accessible digital releases (Mystery Gifts, et al.)
5) Actual legitimate visual upgrades to the main hand held franchise.

It's 2009. I think they can shill a few more clams for better graphics. It's Nintendo's more profitable ventures--some legitimate effort on their part would be appreciated.

Generation 5 shall not be here before 2011 for Japan and 2012 for the world. Makes sense really.

Gen V should have more handheld-console communication faunctionality and more Wi-Fi options. Obviously new TMs and HMs, and of course a Battle Frontier in the third handheld game. Maybe the option to travel to Sinnoh a la GSC, if only to be able to evolve Nosepass and Magneton at Mt. Coronet and evolve Eevee into Leafeon or Glaceon. More Eeveelutions would be nice as well.

Really? Wow, I think you played a different game altogether. Truth is, absolutely no one in Team Galactic but Cyrus himself knew what was the ultimate purpose of all their actions. They just followed his orders, which were also covered up from his immediate underlings, the Commanders, and then passed on to the Grunts, which only got a messed-up retelling of the real thing. Quite a few Grunts state that they don't know what all they're doing is for. That they're too lowly to know such things, and they just follow orders. Hell, Saturn's words after the Spear Pillar incident are even further testament of this concealment. He really didn't know all their actions would lead to what happened there, and that Cyrus "enthralled" everyone with his words and manner of speech. Really, you don't know what they're planning to do until you reach Cyrus at the Spear Pillar. Then you see all they did worked for that end, but you never knew it beforehand.

This is similar, if even better than what Team Rocket did in GSC. At least Galactic had a much more ellaborated and twisted purpose. All Team Rocket wanted was to bring Giovanni back. That was... anti-climatic, to say the least. It wasn't until FR/LG shed more light on the radio wave thing that it seemed actually threatening. Before... wow. All they did was test a radio frequency to eventually use it in the Radio Tower so to reach their former boss? They're all a bunch of whinners in GSC, really.

Only Team Aqua and Team Magma keep on telling you their goal from the get-go, or at least, earlier than the other Teams (Of course, Team Rocket is never tired to say they use Pokémon for profit either). And even then, you only knew they wanted to expand the water and the landmass. Then, both looked for various ways to fulfill such purpose, eventually hitting gold with Kyogre and Groudon. I don't see what's wrong with knowing a villain's purpose either. Even if changing the Earth's makeup and becoming God are over the top, at least it's way more interesting and with actual plot build-up potential than "we're evil for money and because we can". Team Rocket might be ruthless, but this lack of actual purpose really puts them down in my eyes at least.

The Pokémon were insane. Resemblances to real life are getting thinner, and these mental God beings are just over the top. I don't see how resemblances to real life are getting thinner. We're still getting almost all Pokémon in a given Generation based off existing animals. They're just being more creative with it, and that's not a bad thing. I'll never get why the "straightforward realism" of the original games is preferred over the "realism with a twist" of the latter ones. Personally, I find Pokémon of the latter Generations more interesting than the dull bunch of the previous ones.

As for Legendaries... it's something this Fandom has to learn to live with. Every Generation has to top the previous ones Legendary-wise. This is completely visible. I think another misconception is that most people think all Legendaries are equal in power or in world influence. They're not. Mewtwo is just a genetic experiment gone wrong. He's not a Legendary Pokémon comparable to the likes of Dialga or Ho-Oh, which are actual myths on the local culture, and which apparently can control one aspect of the world. Mewtwo is just insanely powerful. Yes, he can stand up against an actual Legendary Pokémon, but that's for his insane power and that he was cloned from a Legendary Pokémon itself (Mew). Now, while I'd like to see a shortage of Legendaries in the coming Generations before things get actually ridiculous, I am not really counting on it. Still, I hope the next Legendaries are mostly like Heatran and Latios/Latias: extremely rare and elusive creatures of which only few remain in the world. In the end, you just have to accept the fact that Legendary Pokémon are part of this franchise, and as long as it goes on, there will be Legendary Pokémon.

As for the change in mood... I think you're playing different games again. The entire franchise is kid-friendly and happy-go-lucky. GSC was no exception. The Evil Team bits are expected and deliberatedly made to be contrastant to the otherwise friendly atmosphere. I can only agree about the Rival, since the GSC Rial was actually harsh, ruthless and quite evil. Then again, given the high chance that he's Gio's son, I think it's a given. Given how it's implied he actually stole a Pokémon, he's a jewel amonsgt the otherwise merely jerky, friendly and crackpot Rivals this franchise is known for. Still, an "evil" Rival does not a darker game make. Not in the slightest. It just expands the horizons of characterization and reinforces the "various kinds of Trainers and styles" ideology, which is the actual intent. Myself... I see the prospect of a cataclysmic tragedy to be darker than a bunch of wimps begging their Boss to come back, disrupting sound waves nonwithstanding. Plus, if you seek "darker and edgier" deliveries of Pokémon, the Orre Saga and Ranger Spin-Offs provide much more darkness than the mainstream games will ever allow. Especially the Orre Saga, where you're the one stealing Pokémon and confront a syndicate that corrupts said Pokémon to the core and turns them into emotionless battle machines, and a group which also controls the entire Region, pretty much. Having said games after the overhyped 2nd Generation, which thrived on dull advertisement and crappy Mini-Games featuring cutesy Pokémon, speaks for itself.

In any case, I'm expecting a 5th Generation, though I hope they break several of the series' most tired molds so it's actually interesting. Honestly, the 4th Gen has already bored me, though it's also the fault of their cheap tactics to make you buy all their games. However, I really don't expect much either. Seeing how they retconned the apparently new Gym Leader/Elite Four set-up in Platinum, I have no more hopes to see an interesting twist in this franchise ever again... unless they actually do have one. I only hope they have as many new Pokémon as possible (Apparently, the odd Generations are for that purpose, given how 3rd Gen was set-up, and obviously, 1st Gen), and that they don't have too many "Divine" Legendaries. However, my biggest hope is that they finally remake the Gym Leaders/Elite Four and stop focusing on the Pokémon's Type. There's so much aspects Pokémon can be grouped on, and having pathetic Monotypes just makes this game retardedly easy. But yeah, seeing how they screwed that up in 4th Gen... my hopes are slim. Also, stop being cheapstakes. At the very least, given the pattern with other features, there's a slight chance the Battle Frontier will be featured since the original pair, but again, I'm not counting on it...

Well if GS remakes come this year, whatever is coming that's supposed to be big in 2010 is not Gen V, I don't know what it is.

Whats big in 2010? I did not hear this one? And if the gs remakes do come along that could be it.

Don't know but I have been hearing rumours of something Game Freak are doing for late 2010 and I doubt GS remakes will not be out before then, if Unown Lord is right we should have them by late this year or around.

No, what you heard was an unsubstantiated claim by Darach_Chiaki. Notice that he even suggested the remakes would be released in 2010 at first, but he changed his mind once I pointed out that a late 2009 release was more likely. If there had been any basis to any of his claims, he would have let us know for bragging rights.

No one is infallible; the best way to make sure that someone on the Internet is providing facts is to ask them for a source. Speculation and theories aren't always noted as such.

Yeah guess your right, but I did read it from a few other sources too, it might have been that if GS remakes happen, they will be in 2010, not by the end of this year, a few websites have been saying they will come in 2010

Unless those web sites pointed towards an official source, that shouldn't be taken to mean anything. I'd like to see what those web sites stated, though.

I think a Pokemon game could be a launch title for the next handheld. Pokemon has never launched with a system before, but if Nintendo wants the next handheld to take off with a boom, Gen V being launch titles would be pretty good.

I'll try and find a few of the links I was on, my internets messng up right now so I can't do much.

What I really want to see in Generation V is a female rival as a nonplayable character. May (Haruka) was a rival. It can be possible since they made a female elite four champion. They could also have a young person or a woman be the leader of the evil organization in Generation V since so far that ever single leader in the main Pokemon games has been middle aged men. No offense though.

There's really no such thing as a "good" or "bad" generation. One person's favorite generation is another person's worst. Even though I love generation II to death, it had a good number of flaws holding back a lot of potential. This is the reason I want a GS remake- to see it updated and improved to make a good game even better. (plus my Gold version's internal battery died.)

Anyways I still think it's too early for Generation V. It would be too overwhelming to introduce a whole new set of Pokemon, people are still occupied with Gen. IV. I'd rather them take their time.

Pokemon was never a storyline heavy game to begin with. I'm more interested in catching and training Pokemon than getting involved with cutscenes. To me the storylines are enough to give an incentive to go foward with the game. To me the silent protaginist makes the game more immersive. I still think DPPt has a pretty good plot for this series. If the villians in R/S/E actually acted threatening then they would be my favorite part of Gen. III's story.

For now I just want to enjoy the current games instead of worrying about the future.

Unfortuantly, for most people, like myself, we worry about the future. I worry myself sick unintentionally a lot.
