There's only been one revealed so far (Magearna, a mythical Pokemon), but what are your hopes/expectations for the other new Legendary Pokemon? Should any of the Legendaries from past generations appear in the new region? Cresselia comes to mind, since it would fit right in with Sun/Moon.

I just hope roaming Legendaries won't make a return. u_u

Well Volcarona isn't a legendary :p

I'm hoping the box mascots keep the same high quality and uniqueness as Xerneas and Yveltal. They were so refreshing after 7 years of boring Dragons with bad designs. Obviously the Sun mascot seems a good candidate for a Fire-type, but the Moon mascot could be a combination of Ice, Fairy and Water. Should be interesting.

I expect a sun god (Fire/Electric is my preferred typing) and a moon goddess (Ice/Fairy), and I don't think there should be a third member. The protector depicted in the Strange Souvenir may be the sun god.

Ho-Oh would be a very good choice for a returning legendary due to the rainbow theme. In fact:

Ho-Oh's feathers glow in seven colors depending on the angle at which they are struck by light. These feathers are said to bring happiness to the bearers. This Pokémon is said to live at the foot of a rainbow.
I'd like to see this location. If they give Ho-Oh some sort of form, I hope that they simply add more rainbow colors rather than altering the design too much.

The legendary beasts may return as roaming legendaries, but with all three being obtainable and tied to Ho-Oh in a meaningful event.

For the Sun mascot legendary, I believe it might be Fire and maybe have a secondary type like Flying. For the Moon mascot, I think it would be Dark, Rock or both. Cresselia may be in the game although I don't know if it would be version exclusive due to Darkrai being the opposite of it but that is a mythical pokemon.

My pet theory is that Magearna is the Moon mascot. After every generation up to now having these huge, imposing, scary Pokemon as their box legendaries, it'd be neat to see a pair of small, unassuming sprites get featured on the boxart for a change.

Magearna is a mythical pokemon though.

I have a guess. I think the legendary box mascots will be a Rock type and a Fire type. I could see them both be flying too, but not necessary.

However, the tiki statue, could be the third in a legendary trio, the trio master. In which case, I would guess he is the rock type, and the two ones he has to calm down would be water and fire, or ground and fire. Something similar.

I certainly hope not. It doesn't have the appeal of being a box cover legendary. Having a mechanic Diancie knock off on the cover of a game doesn't scream "buy me" in my opinion.

If the Japanese logos are any indication, I would guess that the 'Moon legendary' is a part flying-type, and it seems fairly obvious that the 'Sun legendary' is a fire-type. It would be nice though if they shook expectations and made it something completely different, like flying (to represent the gas aspect of of a star) and fairy (to represent the light/brightness). Perhaps even electric?

So, as pointed out in another thread, we need a poison-type legendary, and I don't care how we get one.

As for the mascots, I think flying would be nice, with ice and fire (moon and sun) as secondary types. Or something like that. Don't matter much.
What I care more about is the thematic significance of the legendaries as well as their number.
Preferably, I think the ratio for legendary to non legendary should be about 1:12. So if we get 120 pokemon, we get 10 legendaries.
Also, I'd prefer that if we get a low number of legendaries (around 6), either all 6 of them should be related to some common theme (as we COULD have had with Yggadrasil... Dreams were crushed), or 3 and 3 for two separate themes/backstories, whatever. (Like the Swords of Justice vs the Kami Trio.)
If there are any more than that, I would want to group them up similarly instead of having one-offs that are unrelated to each other and are just there cuz "they r kewlz".

Since Regigigas in Gen IV, I've always wanted another legendaries related to previous ones. Maybe a definitive trio master for the Kami trio (instead of Landorus...). And make that legendary a female too, that would be an interesting twist, wouldn't it? Also fits in with the Sun and Moon theme... An Earth legendary, Gaia-related... Controls the forces of nature on Earth..... She could be their mother.

Also, given that this is an anniversary game, can we have the post-E4 game LOADED with legendaries? Don't just sprinkle them randomly though, but like give them all cool locations and people talking about them and stuff...

I think it would actually be pretty cool if the version mascots of Sun/Moon weren't legendaries but rather, Stage 2 evolutions of the starters ala Red/Green/Blue. That would naturally lead to Sun's mascot being the Fire-type starter's final evolution, with Moon being the Water-type's.
If we are to continue the trend of legendary mascots however, I will gladly join the camp of people hoping they won't be dragons. I think an obvious source of inspiration would be solar and lunar deities with a close relationship, which exist in just about every culture. Regardless of the specific inspiration though, I would them to have a typing like Fire/Fairy for Sun's mascot and Water/Dark for Moon's; two mascots with both an advantage and weakness to the other. I think it's also about time we had a Poison-type legendary in some capacity.

A friend suggested that the narrative of the games may revolve around an eclipse due to it being a cosmic event involving both the sun and moon, which fits as the two versions will likely have a near-identical story. In which case, I would love to see a legendary based on the Chinese myth that an eclipse is caused by a sacred dog biting a chunk out of the sun though; that sounds really cute!

Hmm I've always thought the starter thing was unfair to Venasaur (in NA release), too favoring of Blastoise (in JP third game release), and unfair to Blastoise in FRLG..... I don't like being unfair to the starters...

Another idea: the box doesn't just have ONE Pokemon on it? I mean most other pokemon spin off games are like this, and it's awesome... Maybe have the main one legendary on it in the spotlight, but other pokemon too...

Completely agreed with the dragons point: we've had too many dragons
Typing sounds like it makes sense, and the lack of one being super effective on the other is good.
Eclipse idea is awesome/

Okay, but are we not considering Mega Solrock and Mega Lunatone?
Yessss!!
Also, as I mentioned somewhere, are we considering that those two Pokemon might be related to the box legends a la Diancie and Carbink, or Manaphy and Phione (kind of)?

This, basically. As much as I liked the Gen V mascots, I'd like to see the freshness that was present in Xerneas & Yveltal continue. I'm excited to see what they have in store, honestly.
