As usual, CoroCoro Magazine is starting to leak. So far, we only have the front cover, but that has shown us something that's really interesting:

Yup. Courtesy of AAPF, we have our first official picture of Genesect.

And More.

Genesect will be given out over Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection for players of Black 2 and White 2 from 11th August to 19th September

Re: Genesect Revealed!

Finally! I can't wait to get my hands on Genesect! And I hope his event would arrive with some details on his history too, like how did they make him, and more details like that.

Re: Genesect Revealed!

It's surprising that he's being revealed this early if they want him in Movie 16. Considering we didn't get Keldeo until around February this year..... Perhaps Genesect will debut in a spinoff game or some other form of media first.

Either way, I'm excited, because Genesect is badass. :D

Re: Genesect Revealed!

If he is, I doubt it would be a game, I mean it would have been announced by now or in the CoroCoro magazine in this issue! then it would debut in a game! If not, its most likely gonna be in an anime episode? or the manga?

Re: Genesect Revealed!

Three Mythical Pokémon in one year has to be a record. Or proof that GameFreak and TPC didn't plan Gen V very well.

I never found Genesect to be "mythical"... I find him very similar to Mewtwo.
He IS engineered by Team Plasma, and I think it all comes down to how GF and TPC plan to release Genesect.

Re: Genesect Revealed!

The Genesect distribution is set to run from August 11 until September 14 in Japan, so we're getting him VERY early.

Yeah. I was expecting TPC to save Genesect for next year's movie. What will they give away with that? Unless we get the Gen VI primary pair before then...

Anyone else doubting Gen VI is coming next year? xD

I think the movie distribution will tie-in with the Gen 6 games. That is, it won't be to give Genesect anything except maybe some special moves; it'll be to give players one to transfer over to Gen 6 to unlock something (Probably whoever costars in the movie) similar to the Beasts and Zoroark.

Quoting myself from the anime forum thread:
LOL so they're pretty much giving away Keldeo, Meloetta AND Genesect all at the same time!
That's absolute total proof of the following:
1. a gen 6 Pokémon will be the true star of next year's movie, even if Genesect will appear/star too
2. gen 6 WILL come September 2013 and not any later than that
3. their whole secret legendaries thing for this gen was badly planned, like, totally... they could do with just Victini and one or two of the others... it's obvious they didn't realize this gen will last less time than the previous one

They'd have to distinguish the movie Genesect from its Wi-Fi variant. It can't be a fateful encounter flag because the latter will definitely carry it to unlock the P2 Lab event. I guess they could use the location data for that, although they've never done it before.

Wait, what? That's unfair. The games don't come out here until October. No one outside of Japan can get Genesect if this is so.

I don't think it's poor planning as much as it is GF hedging their bets because they initially weren't sure how long this generation would last. In the event of Gen V lasting a few more years, they had plenty of secret Pokemon to keep the fanbase occupied during that time.

They've done this before: Gen IV had the Azure Flute which ultimately ended up unused. Mew itself is evidence that this policy stretches way back to the beginning: hide stuff in the games in case you need it down the line. The fact that we're getting three event Pokemon in a year shows that Gen V hasn't lasted as long as their maximum estimate, but with the 3DS out, they were likely also aware that this could be a very short generation. And if so, who's going to complain about a sudden rush of secret Pokemon?

It's a Japanese event. You wouldn't be able to get it even if you had an English copy of the games at the time. We'll get our own event later.

Joshawott should have said so then. I was confused.

I just think it's weird that a generation with quite a lot going for it seems to have gone by so quickly. With the most pokemon introduced since gen 1 and all these legendary forms, not to mention the storyline of the games, you'd figure they'd be able to get more milage out of it.

I wouldn't have minded if gen V and IV had swapped places in time, y'know? While I enjoyed it, IV really didn't have enough steam to be dragged out for 4 years imo, whereas 5 I could see being much more tolerable in that regard. Ahh well.

Also, Genesect looks badass. I wonder if some antennae or something emerge from the holes on it's head?

The schedule for the Genesect distribution is starting to make me think the U.S. won't get him until next year when they distribute Keldeo and Meleotta, because it wouldn't make sense if the last Pokemon of the dex was released earlier than the other two.

I fail to see how releasing 3 event Pokemon in the same year = poor planning, just because they didn't do what was expected by most people.

"Obvious"? How? Perhaps this was the plan from the beginning, to release all event Pokemon somewhat together. Many people figured Gen 5 wouldn't last as long as Gen 3 or 4 anyway, so how is Genesect's reveal proof of otherwise? I also agree with Bikini Miltank, it could be that they weren't quite sure how they were going to end Gen 5 when they started so they had these Pokemon saved in the event that they decided to extend Gen 5 longer in a "just in case" sort of way. But they didn't, so there is no need to keep all these Pokemon hidden now. Either way, I don't see how this could be negative for Game Freak, if anything, fans should be pleased they won't have to wait 2 years for all the event Pokemon like in Gen 4.

Re: Genesect Revealed!

Wouldn't surprise me if they give out a Genesect with a special move as a pre-order bonus, but that still leaves the main movie promotion.

Mythical Pokémon is a term used to describe The legendary Pokémon that can only be obtained through event.

Because it's overcrowding, meaning that the spotlight has to be divided between all three at practically the same time. I think the moment this went wrong was with the Victini movie - as Victini was distributed at BW's launch, M14 should have focused on Keldeo, then Meloetta would get to headline movie 15 (or co-starred with Genesect). Two's company but three's a crowd.

I'm unsure how much it is they knew, and thus how they planned this, but it is apparent that Gamefreak knew of the 3DS for some time, even before they released B/W. The only reaction I can conjure for someone that couldn't wait for a new console, yet released a new gen anyway, only for the next console to become apparent close to the release of said gen, is *insert curse word here*. The implication is that when the 3DS became apparent to them, they knew they would be unable to make this gen last that long, since they missed their opportunity the first time. Now while they develop on the 3DS, they had to make the best of sour grapes, even though Ninty didn't like that idea too much.
