If you have played PMD Red/Blue before, you might have known of Gengar. He is the human that appeared in the Ninetales Legend which turned out to be true. The Ninetales Legend is about a trainer was cursed by a Ninetales, but Gardevoir absorbed the curse. However, before she knew it, her trainer just ran away because he was afraid that the curse would affect him too. Ninetales noticed it and said "The foolish trainer who abandoned Gardevoir will someday turn into a Pokemon."

But, who is the trainer?

The closest culprit is Wally. This might seem too Farfetch'd, but he is the possible foolish trainer that turned into a Gengar. Why? PMD Red/Blue is released as part of the Gen 3 side games, along with Pinball R/S. Also, Vulpix can be caught in Hoenn, which makes sense so it is possible to find a Ninetales. But, how can be Wally be the culprit in the first place?

Possibly after the events of Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald, Wally grew colder to Brendan/May because he always loses to him/her, so he wanted a stronger Pokemon until he ended up finding a Ninetales. However, it was sleeping, and Wally wanted a fair fight against it. Wally then tried to pull its tail to wake it up, but he doesn't know the bad effect of pulling Ninetales' tail. Ninetales woke up and is about to cast the curse, but Gardevoir popped out of the Poke Ball to protect Wally. But, Wally is still scared that the curse would still fall on him, so he ran away and didn't knew he already abandoned Gardevoir.

Note: This is my first attempt on speculations. No violent reactions.

Logically, this follows fairly nicely. The issue I have is Gengar's personality. Gengar is... nasty, to put it simply. I don't really think Wally has the capacity to change personalities into what Gengar was. I'm sure it is possible, but I can't quite see it.

In one of the player's dreams, Gardevoir told the player that her trainer was irreplaceable (correct spelling if wrong), making Wally the most possible culprit. For some reason, Gengar's nasty personality is caused by Wally growing colder against Brendan/May.
