...Giovanni being the name of my computer, I just thought I'd post a clever thread title.
Anywaaay... I've been ripping some DVDs, with the intent of sticking some anime on my MP3/video player (a Creative Zen V, if anyone's keeping score) and have noticed my computer has an odd aversion to anything involving .avi files. When I use my conversion software to convert MPEG4 files to AVI, or rip to AVI in HandBrake, the computer refuses to play them/import them to Windows Movie Maker and gives me the cryptic message "COM Surrogate has stopped working." Also, when I run the Creative Media Converter in the process of putting videos on my player (in mpeg4 form, with the option of converting then uploading selected) or use the player software to put the aforementioned AVI files on there, the whole computer freezes up and I get a "Windows Explorer has stopped working" message.
Is this due to
1. Vista stupidity.
2. Lack of RAM
or
3. Exactly what the subject line says?
Or am I just screwed out of any video player not sold by Steve Jobs (since apparently iPod has its own video format)?
Help would be most welcome here.
