Giovanni with .....: DOES IT MAKE YOU MAD?

I'm new here and I'm 80% sure that I'm posting in the right forum.

Anyways, I never knew anyone (aside from me) liked Giovanni (Rocket Boss), so I assumed it was safe to pair up an OC with him, according to the Elitist Code.

However, upon coming here, surprise-surprise, whoops I was a bit off on my assumption. However, I had grown to like that pairing.

So I submit to your response: does this make you Mad? Please use the following words to show if you are Mad At It.

Neutral: Not mad at all.
Twitch: Bit twitchy, but generally I'm okay with it.
Mad: I don't like it and it's a real turn-off.
BUBBLING-MAD: For your information, Velveteen, this is a monstrosity! Who do you think you are, CEO of Nintendo? This is possibly worse than the Wolf-Goddess-Elemental-Queen-OC/Naruto pairing!


A bit about.

She is: An Executive who slept her way up the ranks. However, she is frighteningly intelligent and although she hasn't done anything flashy and big-bang, she has streamlined the general functioning and shaped up the organization with her vindictive managing skills. She is drop-dead gorgeous and is sexy beyond sexy. <--Looks like a Mary Sue! OoO

But she is also: "Many people take an instant disliking to her just so save time: it isn't an exagerration to say that she is the nastiest person you hopefully have never met." She is a talentless excuse of a "Trainer" and controls her Pokemon only through sheer brute force and a reign of terror. Her Pokemon are the standard Rocket pokemon too: A beaten-down Houndoom and two Ekans not even worth mentioning.
 
I dunno.... I HATE OC's in general, no matter who they're paired with. Your character sounds good, but to me (and presumably at least a few others) she also sounds a bit like Domino. Therefore, when I get the urge to write a story about a rank-sleeping, gorgeous, intelligent gal who's paired with Giovanni, I write about Domino.

The thing that distinguishes an OC from a Mary Sue, in my experience, is that a Mary Sue dominates a story while an OC compliments and/or enhances it. Also, I think a lot of times Mary Sue's are not actual self-inserts or even super amazing characters the writer would like to be. Usually they're a way for the author to pretend he/she is just a normal part of that world. And while it's not a SIN, it's also not always favorably looked upon.

Ket's OC in this Rocket100 fic is a good example of an OC, I think:

^^The OC, even though she's married to Giovanni (omg) doesn't consume the story, but rather is used to enhance the story by showing us a side of Giovanni that none of the canon characters could have easily done.

Also, I think most people just prefer canonical fanfiction characters, in general. The whole idea behind fanfiction is to use characters, worlds, and objects that already exist, not to invent new ones. I'm much more tolerant towards Mary-Sue's and Harry Stu's (provided they don't God-mode) in the online RPG I'm the GM for... it's totally original, and we're making up the canon characters now, so to speak, so Mary Sue's are less frowned upon than when you insert a character into an original story than when you put them into fanfiction.

I think I sort of understand! That is a great bulk of information to absorb, but thank you very much!

That is why I do not feel so hot on it- because I hate OC/Canon pairings unless it's with a neglected, unpopular character, and I just realized that he wasn't a neglected, unpopular character. I don't know why, but I always thought he was related to Domino.

At least I have the claim that she does not smother!

Would I be accurate in assuming that you are somewhere between "Twitch" and "Mad" then?
 
If she's nasty and can only get respect from her pokemon by force, what does Giovanni see in her? I mean, we all know he loves a good show of force as much as the next megalomaniac, but he's also a top trainer.
 
I am one of the biggest Giovanni fans you may ever meet.

Honestly, she sounds a bit too Mary-Sue for me, with the amazing intelligence, gorgeous looks, and the fact that everyone hates her instantly.

However, there is nothing saying that you can't make an OC to pair with him!
 
I think she's probably his ward, but that they've had.... an interesting relationship despite the guardian-guardee factor. >_< I pair Giovanni with everyone, though. So while I can see an OC with him, I think it gets annoying when the story centers around the OC, when he pays special attention to the OC, etc. etc.

I'm probably more of a Mad but I usually attempt to just Twitch and not review it nowadays when I see it. Also, keep in mind that Mary Sues tend to have extremes... very smart, very beautiful, very loved, very hated, very emo, very perky, etc. That might help.

I am getting too much of the feeling that she is a Mary Sue, which is atrocious especially for me because of the pride I take in my characters not being Sues, but unfortunately in the importation process I believe things just happened. But I do like keeping her hated, as she is hated because of her personality and her bad traits. I thought that being universally-disliked was not a Sue characteristic; it seems I will have to redefine the term.

What Giovanni sees in her? Just cleavage; he doesn't 'love' her or anything.

I like OCs. I like it when people even make crappy ones because it shows some form of creativity! And sometimes people will come up with some really cool and appealing designs and personalities if they try hard enough! She may sound a bit mary-sue-ish at first (isnt EVERYTHING these days? >_>) but I like that you gave her flaws.

Make me MAD though? pffft. It's your character, and if you like Geovanni, I say go ahead and pair him with WHOEVER YOU WANT. People come up with the CRAZIEST pairing for OFFICIAL characters, so there's no reason this is any bit anger-inducing, nor should it be for anyone. Screw people calling her a sue, screw those telling you it's uncool or that OC's shouldn't be paired with official characters! Go with what you like :)
