Give the player a love interest!

And watch as it accomplishes absolutely nothing.

But what would be the point? What would we gain? This isn't Harvest Moon, this is pokemon. A love interest would be totally ineffective.

ill answer your question with a question then. What's the point of having the same storyline through the games?

Love interest my ass! It wouldn't work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also it wouldn't be weird for 10 year olds! Remember Team galactic........Lucas and dawn-"Aww, aren't you are lovey-douvy couple to the rescue!" or something like that. (Please note, don't take offence)

Because it's a good plot for a video game? It propels the action forward and never gets too self important that it distracts from the gameplay. Pokemon knows its not fine literature and is all the better for it. A lot of other games would be much better off if they knew that too.

You know, I have a hard time not comparing the Mege Man Battle Network/Starforce games to Pokémon, at least in terms of storytelling. Both are repetitive, predictable, and really heavy handed that in that special way that only JRPGs aimed at younger audiences can be.

The BN/SF games have always featured a romantic subplot—very chaste, very cutesy, very "Do you like me? Yes/No/Maybe", and I can't honestly say that it's not one of the better hooks in the story. The continuity of it certainly doesn't hurt. The fact that shipping, as a thing, even exists, should tell you that people like seeing characters connecting with each other.

It would be kind of cool... But you are forgetting your character is ten right? Maybe if they were aged to like 15 but 10 it's a bit weird, maybe puppy love but that's about it.

I'd be fine if they had it like that, something ingame, but doesn't affect gameplay (may affect story, but not gameplay). It's only if it gets to Harvest Moon level proportions that it would seem very odd. Remember, the target audience probably still believe holding hands makes a girl pregnant.

I know that some non-canon material has introduced hints of ships, such as Wallace and Winona in Adventures, and even the games have had the odd comment, like Lyra's grandparents teasing her by calling Ethan her boyfriend. I don't feel it would be too much of a step from that; and the only time I can see it affecting the story is, for example, the main villain kidnaps the girl - if you want in her pants, you'd want to rescue her. Usually in the games, you just stumble upon the villains' plots and you kick their butts for teh lulz. Rarely does a character have motivation to stop them.

What.

Please don't tell me there are actually kids that believe that.

Anyway, if they include a love interest, you should have a choice in seeing them as such. I don't want to be forced to consider my rival/alternate gender character/random other character my love interest. And no too big story relevance either - maybe just some altered dialogue, depending on your choice.

I wouldn't mind too much, but sadly, Ryu is right. D: A romantic subplot is more suited for Harvest Moon, not Pokemon. A handful here say now it would be good, but if they DO include such a thing, watch those same fans go "OMG POKEMON IS RUINED FOREVAR!!!".

from around 10-early teens, they start learning about dirty kinds of things, heck, when one of my sisters was about 6 or 7,and read the word Sex on the screen, in this case being gender-based, she said "awww, your looking at something baaaad" or something to that effect.

And I also agree that it would be..err..different ,but probably not too far off from what happens in HG/SS.

The thing is,though, that a player is supposed to make up their own character/ put themselves in the player-character's shoes, give them a personality and such, or at least thats what I got from it. Which is why so many people make alternate trainer cards, even if the trainer is just a recolor of an already made sprite. Meaning your character, may like -insert name here- in game, and such, and not actually whomever your forced to hook up with. It's all about imagination, imo, though,I guess,so whatever .

I mean,I doubt many people would want to be hooked up with someone they don't find highly attractive/a 'bishie', so it would potentially hurt the game if your character is forced to fall in love with them. Though love is more about feelings, interests, and such than just looks.. but not in the case of a particular fandom >>'

1. To make the game more interesting.
2. More ships.

1. Any love affairs wouldn't make the game more interesting at all to me. Totally subjective.
2. Shipping is crap and something entirely created by the fanbase, unless they will start to try to please fans, it isn't a reason why they should put this kind of stuff into the game.

Other player character and your rival is pretty much that in current gens. They will probably continue that.

Kthnxbai.
