Giving up my iPod for a Walkman (BBC)

_45984522_walkman_226_300.gif

When the Sony Walkman was launched, 30 years ago this week, it started a revolution in portable music. But how does it compare with its digital successors? The Magazine invited 13-year-old Scott Campbell to swap his iPod for a Walkman for a week.
Well that should have been quite an experience. I still have a Cassette tape Walkman at home. :>

Still works too. XD

And I want an IPod. XDDDD

So post about your experiences of the Music technology days before the MP3 Revolution. :008:

Well, I have a walkman as well, and I used to make mixed tapes all the time.

Well... for records, it was a bit before my time, but I still used them a bit as a little kid. I can only remember how annoying it was for skipping. I also remember both Cassettes and Tapes being annoying for skipping and getting, but to clean it you risked messing it up even more. But I still loved it well enough.

I remember when I was really young, and there were no cartoons on (pre Cartoon Network times, lulz) I'd pretend like I had my own movies by playing cassette tapes to music (usually it was my parents music, or disney soundtracks) and playing with action figures... Though I was watching anime without really knowing it was anime sometime around then... so the movies were really violent compared to most US cartoons at the time... which explains why most of my old action figures are broken...

I have a Beatles tape and a Heart tape. And maybe a Beck tape lying around somewhere. I had a Walkman but I seem to have misplaced it.

I'm doing this. Ditched my iPod about... 4 months ago.
(Meh, I cheated a little. Now I use my PalmPilot.)

Cool, My dad has a newer tape one where i would listen to dubbed records when i was a kid. My bro has one of the Mp3 WALKMANS which he listens to a lot as well.

When i was a kid, i would get out my dads records and randomly play them. He had a few odd ones. I once f***ed up one of his tapes by dubbing it with another record while changing it from 33 to 78. So my mom gave me some religion tape to dub over. This was before the iPod became big but around the time when p2p mp3 downloading was big.

And btw, they still make portable cassette players, just now for voice dictation and audio books, not music.
