Now that I've gotten some interesting general discussion from those four threads I started earlier, I think I'll now focus on particular topics.

And as BGM seems to be a very popular topic that's become the end-all-be-all that decides whether a dub is watchable or not, let's focus on that.

In general, I think the dub's act of replacing music, in and of itself, is not a bad thing to do. For instance, I had absolutely no problem with the first three movies and the Diancie movie getting complete soundtrack overhauls. If music is used well, then that's what matters.

So this is the point of discussion: what are your favorite tracks from either version, and where would you say they were best used?

(Keep in mind that movie examples are allowed.)

By the way, feel free to discuss any time you felt like the music fit, even if it's not necessarily the best. I should've been more specific about that in the thread's title.

As I said in this thread's partner:

Honestly, I think the Japanese music is a case of great music being used at inopportune times most of the time. Right here is a fun track, so I didn't think it should've been used over the flying Pokeballs scene from the first movie. And I thought the KiraKira example was a mood-killer.

This is one of many times I side with the dub's practice of replacing music, since I feel this fits that same scene so much better.

I think the ones I find most amazing are the songs that got into the franchise without actually being written for it. Chief among those (in my opinion) is "We're a Miracle"-it's amazing that such a perfect pre-existing song existed. Runner-up is probably "Makin' My Way".

To Each Future from the Japanese BW121 (Team Plasma and the Awakening Ceremony), when Ash's Pokémon reunite to attack Team Plasma and Looker gets edgy with his pipe.
There's also True Power, used during the scene when Ash approaches Garchomp on top of the Prism Tower. It adds a lot of impact to the scene.

I also loved Team Rocket's nameless BGM for when they were executing their plans in Best Wishes. I think its most notable use was when they infiltrated the research lab and stole the Meteonite info in BW011 (A Home for Dwebble). It also had an accordion/keyboard version used for their less serious antics. Both were awesome whenever they got used.

In general, I think the dub soundtrack of "The Power of One" was some of the dub's best musical work. I'd even go so far as to say it's the best thing 4Kids ever composed. I elaborated more on this in my latest blog entry.

I like To Each Future because I fell in love with its game counterpart and its pretty much the same theme in the anime as well. I also like most of the BW bgm for similar reasons as well. BW had the best bgm imo.
Other bgm I like is Paul's battle theme, the Sinnoh gym battle, Dawns appeal theme, Advanced Adventure Instrumental, and Tears after the cloudy weather.

Meowth's song in Japanese. THE TEARS!!! Also, original Japanese Pokémon theme, original Japanese Hoenn theme, original Pokémon Best Wishes theme, and original English Pokémon theme.
