Global Trade System - Unseen Pokemon

Alrighty! This may seem like a fairly obvious/silly question but I'm new to this whole Global Trading System thing.

So anywho, I'd really love a Charmander but I can't search for one on GTS because I haven't seen it yet. Is there any way to circumvent that? Or is there anyway for me to see a Charmander somewhere in the game (I have Pearl if that helps) so I can trade for one? Also, I'm having the same problem with Growlithe as well. If any of you masterful minds could help me out I'd be most appreciative!

Not on the GTS per se.

However, you've done the exact right thing to circumvent this : asking on a forum. That way, if someone can trade you a Charmander, they will see your post, then you can trade friend codes and do the trade directly. You MAY need the national dex before this, I'm not sure. (Anyone can confirm or deny? I know I've got some trading work ahead of me if you don't need the national dex ; I promised those Eevee eggs to Alex)

The same goes for Growlithe, although where Growlithe is concerned, you can catch one later in the game (once you have the national dex) *if* you have a copy of Pokémon Fire Red inserted in the GBA slot of your DS.

(Also, emm, awkward question : you wouldn't happen to be the same Silver Espeon that used to hang around the TPM forums way back when, would you?)

You do NOT need the National Pokédex in order to trade for Pokémon outside of the Sinnoh Pokédex. This I know from personal experience (I got myself Eevee, Cyndaquil, and plenty others before I got the National 'Dex in my game).
