So, Coro Coro has confirmed that in the wi-fi, there´ll be a global ranking made by Nintendo where the trainers will be classificated according to their perfomances. (Anyone who has watched Medabots or Bakugan will know what is that xP).

What do you think of that?

Just watch me be Space Medafighter X.

Everybody in the Top 10 will have the same team, calling it now.

I don't like this. I'd imagine the top ten would exist of smogon members with huge ego's. It'll all fun out of the game. Not liking it at all.

I bet the people in the top twenty will either be hackers or Smogon addicts, neither of which is a good thing.

So in other words, Pokemon now has proper gloating merits for pokenerds to pokegloat about their poke-epeens on their pokeranking boards. Terrific.

Um... Smogon is primarly english. I wager at about half will be of Japan.

We already have a system like that for MKW and it sucks because most of the top people are indeed hackers.

Don't expect to see any of the big name fans there.

It'll be a way to get some people into the limelight... though yeah, I do think they'll all have the same team.

I have bad feelings about this. The bad thing is that Smogoans (Smogon people) will dominate everything and you can pretty much see the same pokemon on every team (Blissey, Garchomp...etc.) and you get ranked on how you play.

I think it would even the field a bit if the players both got a randomly generated set of Pokemon, like in the Battle Factory. Of course, the computer would do this randomly (excluding Legendaries). Then players with real Pokemon knowledge will be able to enter the leaderboards.

I don't think that would work as a leaderboard - that would just be a competition.

As long as they smartly divide up the categories, it'll be fine.

Something like

Worldwide - Japan - North America - Europe

Single - Double - Triple - Double (partners) - Triple (partners)

Open Level - Cups of various kind

Top 100 people

They'll need some sort of hack checker to make this work right. If they can detect people using ars and whatnot in the vgc surely they can write some code into the ranking system that blocks people who hack.

Eventually, though, there will be hackers who determine the legality formula for a Pokemon. Remember Pokesav? It could create perfectly normal save files and nobody would be any the wiser.

Pokemon already uses a hack checker.

Alright, I'll ask a question about the system itself now, instead of its implications.

How would you measure whether somebody is a "better" trainer or not?

Perhaps the top 1 or 2 people on the global ranking will get an invite to the VGC Championship without actually having to participate in one of the qualifiers.

Nobody's entirely sure if they're "perfectly" normal. It could leave traces (whether or not Nintendo would check for something so minute... who knows), depending what exactly you use it to change.
