Well, I tried this a while ago but I decided to start fresh. It's basically an idea I got while reading a comic strip online, that I thought had a charming "Harry Potter" air about it, and even though I don't really like the JK Rowling works, I thought "hell, I'm doing that" and came up with this for a fanfic.

It is, ultimately, based upon Harry Potter. I haven't got any details planned out yet but it's set in an unnamed region (not to be named, ever) and about an academy (yet to be named) for Pokemon Trainers, sort of like an advanced Trainer school. It's got a pretty Harry Potter-based storyline (though not too heavily), with lots of filler chapters taking up the middle section of the story and the climax coming in with an explosion somewhere undecided and a group of mercenaries hired the government (Ministry of Magic cameo =P) come swarming in. Professors are fighting and all that ruckus and have said that students go home but a bunch of students stay and fight (*coughDumbledore'sArmycough*) and there's lots of explosions and fighting etc etc. The finish is yet to be decided, but I'm going to try and divert it from Harry Potter. It's got something to do with mutant people...no, Wolverine won't be there.

Well? What'dyu think? I am seriously trying to differ it from Harry Potter as much as I can without losing the original plot. The title isn't a problem. I've been bombarded with ideas recently.

Be careful when you do this. If it is too similar to HP and the reader realizes it early on, it might take a bit of the interest in the plot away.

I, for one, love HP and would probably really get into any sort of story based on it, and I'm sure you will do fine with it. I'm just slightly concerned that it could become too similar.

Mm, I realise that this is a bit of a long shot and as I said I'm trying to twist it away from HP as much as possible just to keep it original. I won't start until at least May or June, since my current fic is still running and has a bit to go yet. I'm going to alter it as much as possible between now and then. Eyes peeled, though I'm hardly saying it'll be any good. If it completely fails, it's easy to see why.

I can see little on the manners of mapping Harry Potter to Pokemon, and this is also not the first time an academy plot is fit into Pokemon, so I'd hope you have something very original in the works.

If it was a parody, I could understand, but from your post I can tell this isn't the case...

I'm not aiming for a crossover, just a piece that is inevitably rooted from HP. I know I already said this, but the origin is a series of comics (I won't link them for the sake of originality) that I thought bore some resemblance to HP so I just decided I'd branch out from those two themes and add elements from other places. I'm completely relaxed about this, though I know I need to be careful. If it doesn't work, we all know why. Honestly though, it is steadily driving away from the Potter scene, but I'm not entirely abandoning it. I'm going to go straight ahead with it, after I finish my current fic.

There's just one issue with this. The Knight Pokémon University RPG and its forthcoming YouTube adaptation also have some roots in Harry Potter. As such, the resulting Fan Dumb would likely end up accusing each story of being a copy of the other, assuming they both became popular.

I'm not going to ask you directly to toss this idea. I'm just saying that, due to timing issues, I'm not sure if it's a good idea.

Right...that's an issue. I think the title is slightly over-exaggerating; this has roots from a COMIC that has roots from HARRY POTTER. If it gets bad feedback, then I'll stop. If it gets good feedback, fine, and if it clashes with the Knight University, I'll stop. This probably won't come to my attention since I'm not one for RP, but if it does, I will stop. Fine by everyone?
