Hello there,

I am re-entering the world of pokemon on my DS, and I've found things have grown extraordinarily more complicated than the last time I played. Which was Pokemon Blue, on a gameboy color. :)

I have a copy of SoulSilver that I borrowed from a friend of mine who no longer uses it, and I sometimes feel like I've jumped off the deep end. I dont recognize many of the pokemon that I've come across and seem to have some trouble developing a fairly well rounded team.

I'm currently looking for a 'really newbie newbie' section so that I can ask some real face-palming silly questions.

Thanks. I guess my first question is: For someone who honestly remembers nothing about the games other than Charmander was cool and Kadabra melts faces, should I be starting on some other version? Should I start with Black or White, or will that be even more confusing?

Welcome,
About your problem,BW is as Kanto, an exclusive region, aka only Unova pokemon there.
For you,I might suggest trying GSC or FRLG to get you used to simpler mechanics before moving on to the complicated ones.
Also feel free to VM me,although i'll probably VM you first ;P

Ok, I'll keep an eye out for them while I work through this. Currently I'm on the lookout for 2 more pokemon to fill up my team - I have a Quilava, Onix, Weepinbell, and Pidgeotto at the moment. I've been trying to find a water pokemon other than magikarp, but no luck thus far. Otherwise, I'm not sure what else to look out for at the moment.

Thanks everyone. I'm excited to get back into the games, there is a surprising amount of depth for what seems on the surface to be a kids game. It sure does take a little bit to figure out though!

Welcome to the Forums! As you can see, we're more than happy to help you with any questions you might have. Have fun, and post wisely!

Thanks! I am looking forward to learning quite a bit about the games.

Is there any sort of primer article or 'This is everything you need to know about a specific pokemon' article on the wiki? I haven't been able to find anything, but it may be because I'm looking for the wrong things.

Well, you can try its page on Bulbapedia / veekun.
It'll have most info about it there

Welcome good sir! >:3 Feel free to ask me any questions also~ ^^ I like helping out. :D

Weeeeelcome to BMGf! Complicated? At least it's also much more convenient this time around, and it's also faster. I do think that you should make use of the opportunity to learn something about all the new things so that you can enjoy the newer games more!

Have fun around the forums! Speaking of your copy of SS, you haven't restarted it yet, right? Did you also get the PokéWalker? Try to take advantage of a fresh start, if it's an option. :)

Try the Mentoring Program for help!

Welcome to our lovely forums! As for game mechanics experience, I started with a copy of FireRed and gradually built up from there, so I haven't experienced what you're feeling first hand. However, I sympathize completely, as I missed out on those older games because they're mechanics were simpler than that of FireRed's or Emerald's. But, SoulSilver was one of the best main series Pokémon games I've ever played, second to only Emerald for me, so I hope you enjoy your adventure throughout Johto. Lastly, I hope you enjoy your stay to the end!
