What's a good tablet to use for drawing? I want to buy one, and I was looking at Wacom tablets (specifically WACOM MTE450 Bamboo Pen Tablet, it's cheap. Price isn't a HUGE issue, although the cheaper the sooner I'll be able to get it.)

So what would you guys say?

This should go in Science & Technology. But I really don't know; there was a nice $800 Toshiba one.

augh sorry I always post in the wrong forums....I'll learn sooner or later

Anyone have any suggestions?

While there's a good array to choose from, in the tablet industry the king of them really deserves it. Wacom produces the best tablets, period. I usually use an older model (a Graphire 4, before Bamboo I suppose), and it's still kickin'. If price really is no issue, I would suggest getting a larger tablet size, though. Small ones work great too, but you have more freedom with a larger space. And it's a bit easier on your hands.

Bamboo is good for both professionals and otherwise, so I don't think you could go wrong there. If you really have the extra cash, Intuos has better sensitivity. And Cintiq is amazing, since you draw on the tablet itself, but I think they start at like $1k... I forget.

Blahblahblah, I like Wacom. Of course, do be sure to research it more, but that's my bit. Good luck!

Alright, thanks! 1k is a little steep for a tablet, I wouldn't want to go any higher then $500 and that's pushing it, so I guess price is sort of an issue. And reading your post, it seems like if I get one I will be able to use it for a long time without it being too outdated, that's good to know.

I'm partial to my bamboo fun...
For a graphics tablet o_o

100 dollars + hook it up to a computer
= pretty much the same thing >.>

Intuous4 Medium is what I'm looking at getting for Christmas. The price isn't too bad (around 350), it has over 2,000 levels of sensitivity, and has tilt sensitivity as well. That's always nice when you're doing lineart and whatnot.

I've got an Intuos 3, 6x8 that I've been using a couple of years now. It is a somewhat older model now I suppose but the specs are still excellent. I mainly use it for CAD but I do sketch from time to time in PainterX and it does a good job of replicating the feeling of pen on paper, sensing pressure, pen tilt and feels very precise (probably more precision than I need) Plus they retail cheaper now that the Intuos 4 has apparently came out. (Hate to suggest eBay since a lot of people dislike it and often for good reason... but you can get one new for under $200 if you look around enough) Think it retails on Amazon for 299 now...

Yeah, you should go to at least the model above Bamboo Fun. Any Sort of Intuos should be good, it gets really expensive the larger you go (but in the end, bigger is better... but as long as it is above Bamboo Fun you're set)

The Bamboo Fun series models are designed for a more causal use, like photo editing or something for families, kids, and casual users unlike the others which are designed for more serious users.

Like Bell said, I would recommend something above the bamboo as well. But I will say bigger isn't necessarily better as far as tablets go. Actually I tried out several Intuos larger than mine originally and I found them too big! Because the larger you get the more arm and wrist movement you must put in, which maybe I'm just lazy but it made things more difficult for me. Of course there is an option to shrink the workspace on the tablet itself within the properties but why do that when you can just buy a smaller size for cheaper? I found the 6x8 (for full screen) and the 6x11 (for wide screen) to be optimal sizes.

But I'm sure its all up to user preference.

Thanks guys, hadn't even heard of Intuos, but it definitely sounds like what I'm looking for. And it's in the price range I'd be willing to pay as well.

Thanks!

That's what I use. Mine was refurbished, so it only cost $.69.99. For a brand new one, it's $99.99. It's pretty durable--my cat abuses my property--and it gets the job done. We use the same kind of tablet at my school as well, for all our yearbook work.
