Goodbye For Now!

The short Canadian made his way quietly down the hall with his suitcase behind him. He paused for a moment looking into his son’s bedroom to see him sound asleep in bed. It was 3am and he had a flight to catch in little less than three hours and he still hadn't told his son he was leaving for Japan. It was his first tour of Japan in almost 5 years and this would be the first time he would be gone longer than a day or two. He sighed to himself as he shook his head slightly and walked down the hall and into the living room and placed his suitcase next to the sofa and walked into the kitchen.

“You haven’t told Jack you’re leaving for Japan yet have you?”

The other short Canadian stood in the doorway of the kitchen with her hands on her hips. She was a few inches shorter than her best friend Petey. He could only shake his head at her. He didn't know how he was going to tell his son.

“I don’t know of a way to tell him that I won’t be around for two weeks without him getting upset. We've never been apart this long.”

“You had better tell him before you leave this house or he will throw a fit when he wakes up and realizes you’re not home.”

He groaned and rubbed a hand across his face. He knew he had to tell his son but Ajay wasn't making this any easier. He leaned against the counter and thought for a moment about how he was going to handle this before coming to terms that there wasn't going to be an easy way to do this. He made his way back through the living room and down the hall and walked into his son’s room and sat on the edge of the bed.

“Hey Jackson.”

He ran a hand up and down his son’s small back trying to wake him gently as the small boy slowly started to stir. After a moment or so the small boy rubbed his eyes and rolled to his back to see Daddy sitting on the edge of the bed.

“Daddy it’s not time for us to workout yet. It’s too early.”

“I know it is but there is something I need to tell you.”

He paused for a moment and looked back at his son.

“Daddy is leaving in a few minutes. He’s going to Japan and will be gone for 2 whole weeks.”

Jack couldn't help but to quickly crawl into Daddy’s lap and give him a death grip of a hug. A nuclear bomb couldn't separate the two at the moment with the grip Jack had on Daddy.

“No don’t go Daddy.”

Petey sat there and wrapped his arms around his son and hugged him back. The silence was broken when a few sniffles could be heard coming from the small boy as that sound broke Petey’s heart. He hated to see his son upset but he couldn't back out now not with all the major promoting the companies had done on him overseas.

“I have to go Jack but I’ll be back before you know it. You know I’ll always come back.”

The sniffles turned into crying sobs as a big wet spot formed on his shirt from where Jack was crying. Ajay appeared in the doorway a few moments later to see the two sitting on the bed. Scott was waiting in the living room to take Petey to the airport as Ajay walked over to take Jack. She tried to pull him free as Jack still had that death grip on Daddy’s shirt. Petey stood up and grabbed Jack’s teddy bear and walked out of the room and carried Jack into his room and walked into the closet and pulled out Jack’s favorite shirt of his.

“Here you can wear your favorite shirt of Daddy’s and sleep in my spot until I get home.”

“No I don’t want you to go.”

“I have to plus you have to babysit your Uncle Alex. We both know how much trouble he can get into if you don’t watch him.”

Jack just shook his head. Scott called up from living room that they needed to leave as he sighed. Ajay poked her head in as he walked out of the closet. He gave her the signal for ten more minutes. He needed to fix this before he left even if it meant he would be late. She nodded her head and went back down to talk to Scott. He sat down on his side of the bed still holding Jack.

“How about we do this Jack I promise to call you as soon as I land no matter what time it is.”

Jack sniffled and slowly nodded his head. He loosened his death grip on Daddy’s shirt just slightly but not much.

“And I’ll bring you home a few surprises from Japan.”

“Kay.”

“Daddy loves you very much.”

“Love you too Daddy.”

Petey ran a hand up and down the small boys back and rocked back and forth. After about five minutes Jack finally fell back asleep as he released the death grip on Daddy’s shirt. Petey stood up and laid Jack down in his spot and covered him up. He placed the teddy bear and shirt next to Jack and kissed his head before walking out of the bedroom and down to the living room.

“God I hated that. Anyways I told him I’d call when I land and I’ll try and call while I’m there as well.”

Ajay nodded her head as they exchanged hugs as he walked out of the house with his bag and put it into the trunk and climbed into the car to be taken to the airport.

A WEEK LATER
**********

He had just gotten back to the hotel with some of the guys and went up to his room to get cleaned up. He rummaged through his bag and pulled out a few things as his phone went off. He pulled out of his pocket and answered it.

“Hey Tink.”

“Hey Pan. How’s everything going over there?”

“God am I ever sore. I forgot just how stiff they can work over here. I look like someone beat the hell out of me. How about you?”

“I’m doing the usual.”

“How’s Jack holding up?”

He was kind of afraid to even ask the question out of fear of what the answer might be. After all it didn't go all too well when he told Jack he was leaving.

“He’s had his moments. He goes down to the gym and sits by the door and waits for you so you two can workout together.”

He sighed to himself as he missed Jack very much. He tossed his things on the bed as he walked out onto the balcony and sat down in one of the chairs.

“He gets like you he’s crabby when he doesn't workout. He’s had a few rough nights but he’s doing his best.”

“Can I talk to him?”

“JACKSON PETER!”

Petey pulled the phone from his ear forgetting how loud Ajay could yell sometimes. A moment or so later the voice of a small boy could be heard on the other end.

“Hello?”

“Hey Jackson.”

“DADDY!”

He was gonna go deaf before the end of this call but he could help but to laugh hearing the excited voice of his son on the other end.

“How are you doing?”

“Okay I guess.”

“Ajay says you had a rough couple of nights. You alright?”

“Kinda. I miss our workouts and you tucking me in at night. When are you going to be home?”

“I have a week left. I have a surprise for you now though...but only if you want to see Daddy wrestle.”

“Yeah!”

“Alrighty I’ll tell Ajay to set it up on the computer for you. It will be in the middle of the night though because of the time difference.”

“Kay.”

“By the way have you been keeping your Uncle Alex out of trouble?”

“Best I can but you know him.”

“That’s Uncle Alex for ya. Can you put Ajay back on the phone and I can tell her how to set up your surprise.”

“Kay love you Daddy.”

“Love you too Jack.”

He felt a bit better after talking to Jack as the phone was passed back to Ajay as he heard her voice.

“So what’s this surprise?”

“The show is being live streamed tomorrow and I told him he could watch it to see Daddy. It will most likely be the middle of the night for you two.”

“That’s fine plus I know he’ll love it. Anyways I’m a let you go it must be late there.”

“Alright thanks for everything Tink.”

“Anytime Pan.”

The two said their goodbyes and hung up the phone. He looked out at the view for a minute before getting up and going back inside. He tossed his phone on the bedside table and grabbed his things and went to go take a shower and clean up.

Authors Note: I thought I would try one of the weekly prompts for once. This week was Separation Anxiety.

Very nice! Could really feel the emotions when reading. Even though it was only two weeks, I like how you kind of remind us through your writing that it's pretty hard for a young kid to go without a parent for even that long. I like the nicknames Pete and AJay had for each other, a Peter Pan reference?

Anyways, great job.

Much thanks for the reviews and comments you two. I'm glad you both liked it.

@LightningTopaz Yes Daddy wins his match and Jack screams and cheers the whole time...lol.

@Legacy I think I already explained it to you in PM but yes it is a Peter Pan reference. Just for others to know...Tinkerbell is Ajay's favorite and Pete's real name is obvious Peter just throw Pan in front of it and you get Peter Pan. :D
