Surprised nobody made a thread bout this, was thinking about it for the past few weeks.
So anyway, this topic could be split into many subtopics, the one's I'd have for it are:
Pokemon Models
Character Models
Overworld
Move Animations
Menu Design
Sprites

Of course, I may be forgetting a lot of stuff, and of course you guys can talk about whatever is relevant to the graphics of Pokemon Sun and Moon.

Now, I'll be saying what I want in each of these categories:

Pokemon models: so last gen we went with the "cel shaded" style, but I think it's starting to look dull to me, not necessarily because of the style itself but the colours of the Pokemon, for some reason, seem unsaturated. There are a few exceptions to this, and it's when some models of Pokemon appear to be made out of a shiny, plastic-like material... Now I don't know the precise definition to what fits "cel shading" and what doesn't, but it seems already in XYORAS that they didn't use the same kind of "texture" for a few Pokemon, and according to what I've seen about cel-shading, not all of them look cel shaded to me. The ones I've noticed are (and there may be more), Yamask, Cofagrigus, and Mega Rayquaza. So for Yamask, you can see it's only the mask that looks shiny, so I'm thinking they made it that way to differentiate it from the head, and then the same reason for Cofagrigus. But Mega Rayquaza (which is more significant because Rayquaza looks how most other Pokemon look), I think they chose a shinier texture because it looked better, and I think it does look better. And I think I want to see a greater variety of such textures that suits each Pokemon. If that means cel shading ends, then so be it.

TLDR: I don't think all Pokemon should be cel shaded, and it appears that not all models are already.

Character models: I've mentioned this before, but I don't want to see bobble heads any longer, and I think according to the concept art we saw, they will be LESS like bobble heads. Though it may not be reliable, I still think they'll have closer to normal proportions if just to make it look like an "upgrade" from Gen VI.

Overworld: According to the same concept art (again, which may not be that reliable but still), it looks like we're getting more realistic sizes for trees, and that's something I've wanted for a long time and XY headed in that direction. I hope that the overworld also doesn't look as "box-ish" as it always has. Given all the variety in grass patches (with the different kinds of flowers), I hope we see our first grass patches that look more 'natural'. Instead of having one patch with all yellow flowers, and one with all red, and one with all grass, why not mix it up and make it look more random, like a few red and yellow flowers sprouting out in the middle of the grass. I know this isn't a big issue (or an issue at all, really), it's just something I hope happens. Something else I'll include in this category is the topic of our surf and fly models. Okay, maybe asking for one model per pokemon is too much, but can we at least get a BIT more variety? Even RBY had 5 or 6 menu sprites for the 150 Pokemon at the time.

Move Animations: Nothing much to say here, I think they've done a really good job, but if I want to be nitpicky I'll point out something I see in a lot of games that I dislike:
So some moves, and there are way more examples, I'm just too lazy to find them, but if you look at this picture of Fire Punch, you see the punch "splat" gets cut off from the ground. I can almost understand why it's happening; that object is going behind (or "under") the ground. But you see a lot of moves where that doesn't happen, so you know they can fix it, but.... They didn't, for some reason. I just don't like how squarish it looks. A fade into the ground would be better if for some reason they can't change it entirely.

Menu Design: Liked what they did in XY, though I would've preferred the icons to select things in the menu from the PSS screen to be a bit bigger.

Sprites: I think I've liked everything so far.

I agree, some of the pokemon did look really desaturated. Especially pokemon that were a pale color, or a lot of one color. For instance, Clefable, Ludicolo, Blastoise, Arcanine and Quagsire are visibly paler, less saturated and have lower contrast in their 6 gen sprites, compared to the 5 gen sprites. It they increased the saturation and contrast I would be content with the battles as they are.

I agree they need to fix the attack animations glitching into the ground, but I'd never noticed it myself, so they never bothered.

I can see why they would try to keep the grass and flowers a little blocky, just so it's easy to tell where the spaces are when it comes to avoiding grass or trying to step in certain spaces. The same with grouping them together a bit. On the other hand it would make a lot of difference towards realism if the trees were a little more diverse in size and species within in the same area. And maybe there was a damaged or dead one here and there etc.

I don't mind the SD style characters and I think they won't deviate to far from them, but I would like if they changed their expressions up a little in sequences other than cutscenes, made them emote a bit when they are doing things or in their walking or resting animation. Like they look like they are concentrated when they right their bike, or grinning when they roller skate or scared when they are in a creepy area like haunted houses. They do sort of look at things as they walk by them but they should have more of an "Oh, what's that?" curious and excited expression. It just bothers me how they stare so much with a blank, vaguely happy face. It's like, Lysander tries to kill everyone in Kalos and here is the PC, just kickin' it in the room and doesn't really seem to care, all like O_O .

All the models need their colours changing and brightening up to match their previous sprite colours. They just looks so dull. The models themselves are pretty good (with some exceptions, poor Politoed) but the colours ehhh.

AND DOWN WITH CHIBI OVERWORLD CHARACTERS! They look terrible.

Interested to see how the overworld itself will change. Gen IV -> Gen V wasn't a huge leap, but it did so much more with it and looks a lot cleaner to me. I really liked Gen V's overworld.

I also hope the battle backgrounds are improved too. Not that they were bad (because they weren't), but I think a big spruce up with them could make battles look even better.

Honestly I was satisfied with Gen VI's battle graphics - models, backgrounds, animations. It's mostly the overworld I really didn't like and I'm hoping that a few more years in the oven has allowed SM to really pull off something better. If it is Hawaii and is tropical then I hope it looks more vibrant and colourful, Kalos felt a bit dull colour-wise mostly.

I think my biggest wish is simply that they ground Tropius, Skarmory, and Xatu, and give Mega Sharpedo those awesome sawblade teeth. :|

Beyond that I can't think of much. They already fixed the item sprites, which was one of the things I wanted done. I like the current models for the most part - I guess some could use some touching up, but I wouldn't really care if they didn't.

I... I like.. the over world chibi characters. *hides*

I agree that many parts of the over world look pale, but ORAS did have some visible improvements so I think there will be improvements in SM, too. On the other hand, ORAS felt more "blocky" and "squarey" than Kalos did. I'm not sure if this was because ORAS was a remake of an old game, but I hope the SM region will feel more natural. I can see why they would prefer to make the grass patches stand out and keep them the way they are, but I'd love it if they made them feel more natural. I don't think too much about it, though, because I don't see them changing it. In short, less "blocky", more natural looking world with better colours and textures, and I'll be happy.

Pokemon models look great, but I agree they should make some improvements in terms of colours and some textures. Seeing as ORAS didn't really change anything from XY, I don't expect to see anything different. Given that it is a new Generation, however, we might get some improvements. It would be sweet.

Move animations; I can't say I paid too much attention to them. They looked okay for the most part so I'll just leave it at that. Some improvements to them would be appreciated. The same goes with the battle environment. Seeing Natural Objects make a return would be great, too!

Sprites & Menu Designs were satisfying.

Character models... Well, I mentioned I like the chibi over world models, so whatever they do with them I'll be fine with it. The actual-sized models were okay I believe, but some improvements on colours and shading would be needed. I like what @NoirGrimoir said; giving the models more expressions would be fantastic and make it more immersive. The fact that they change their head's direction when you pass by a sign etc. is a nice detail so now they just have to add more to it.

Generally, I think there will be improvements in the graphics but I don't have big expectations. After all, people don't play Pokemon for the graphics, but seeing some improvements would be nice and definitely help with making people enjoy the games more! :X3:

I'm in agreement with most people here. The colors are getting dull. And sometimes they even seem slightly wrong. I just bred an Espeon, and when I showed my friend she was like "why do you want that pink thing?" To which I of course replied "it's not pink!" But, upon closer inspection, its mode really does look more pink than purple. I don't like it!

That said though, they did really well on some models. Notably, Slugma and Magcargo. Their molten bodies actually glow when the world in-game is dark. More stuff like THAT in gen VII, please :)

AHAHAHAHA, I thought most people didn't like them, but if it is the case that some people do..... Perhaps they won't change them.... IIRC, the reason we got big heads in XYORAS is because they wanted to show more emotions on the characters' faces? If that's the case, maybe they'll keep em as they are....

Yep, they definitely did do really well, and DAYUM that glowing stuff is cool.

One thing I wanna see in the overworld, and I guess in Pokemon battles too: ALLOW US TO CHANGE THE CAMERA ANGLE! Pleeeaasee. Some have even talked about the ability to zoom in/zoom out, and while I do want both, I think realistically we should get zoom out, because zooming in would mean they'd have to make models with much higher detail (or else they'd just get pixelated if we zoom in.)

Anyway, I forgot one important thing for this thread:

3D
Of course, I mean stereoscopic 3D, which is what the 3DS is capable of. Originally, I thought the same way Gen V was said to take full advantage of all the DS's features, that Gen VII would do the same, and that we'd finally be able to see 3D in most, if not all parts of the game. But then I thought, if it was already too difficult for them to allow 3D in things like double battles, would they be even able to do it in the overworld? Hmm now I'm not so sure.... But I don't see why not, I mean there are many games with overworlds like XY that DO have 3D, so hopefully they do it. (Admittedly, I don't care much for 3D, but I like doing it sometimes cuz it's a pretty cool feature. Sometimes you can do some clever stuff with it as well. But I wouldn't be really angry if they announce this game doesn't have 3d too (except for Pokemon battles or whatever.))

Most of the pokemon models looked like derpy balloons, and lacked personality. I'm hoping that's fixed but I wouldn't be surprised if they re-used the models from X/Y.

I'd love for the overworld characters to have more realistic proportions this time around, and judging from the concept art, that just might be the case.

One thing I kind of want, is for the meta battles to have better backgrounds. Not this weird neon glowing "stadium", but just normal environments from the game. They can be randomly chosen for all I care with the players having no say in which you get, or it's different based on which game you have, whatever. I just don't like the idea that I'm having a 'virtual' battle, instead of a 'real' battle.

I... I like.. the over world chibi characters. *hides*

Eh, same here. I quite liked the chibi feel of the overworld. That said, there's always room for improvement, so more detailed models in cutscenes, especially in close-up shots, would be nice.

Personally, I have no real issues with how the graphical engine is so far, but I think I may have been too impressed with the transition to 3D to notice the shortcomings others have mentioned, haha. That said, any improvements, even if only minor ones, would be appreciated. Gen IV & V had similar graphics, but V did manage to make some improvements, though none overly drastic. Either way, I'm keen to see what's in store.

I hope the pokemon models get some different faces to cycle through during battle, because dear races they look downright creepy and lifeless XD

This is why I still prefer BW&B2W2's animated sprites that had cyclical emotions/actions while stationary, they gave the pokemon more character IMO...

The colors all gotta go, ORAS improved the overworked by incorporating brighter colors, but I honestly feel like they weren't even trying when choosing the palate for the pokemon models...take a page from Legend of Zelda WindWaker and saturate the colors!

I honestly would love if there was a setting that could make the battles look like sprites to give retro feel and also prevent the clunky lag that occurs sometimes. I don't care about stereoscopic 3D, never have and never will since I'm unable to actually see it...

A neat idea... Not hard to do either, and would fit in with the 20th anniversary theme... Maybe in the settings they could have a "Retro" mode for battles which makes everything into sprites... I don't even think it would take up that much space, but then I'm not sure what they'd do for the move animations...
Are you sure you can't see it, or does it just feel that way? Cuz for a long time I thought I couldn't see it either, but it's just cuz it takes me like 5 minutes to get into a good angle. I'll admit it's pretty cool sometimes, and I usually turn it on for a few minutes when I play for 1-2 hours.... It kind of... Adds a new dimension to the game.... ya know?

I don't really care for 3D at all. I have bad vision so the 3D effect tends to make my head hurt so I almost ALWAYS have it turned off. Honestly I could care less if they continue to have 3D available in pokemon games.

I love the overworld more chibi looking characters. It fits a handheld system in my opinion. The tiny screen makes well for tiny characters.

They need to recolor the models. They're way too washed out and bland looking. Also I would love for them to recolor some old shinies (which will never happen but it would make me happy... the new shinies are so weirdly out of place when you go back a few generations into puke green/slightly paink/barely different at all territory).

Overall, the graphics don't need to change at all for me to be happy. Just some color changes. I play pokemon to see the designs and fight pokemon. So as long as I can tell what pokemon I'm looking at everything's perfect. Though I do wish they still had a regular 'sprite' for all the pokemon. Maybe as the overview image of the pokedex. Then you could look at the 3D model in another part of it so you could see the pokemon at any angle (perfect for people like me who want a good reference to draw pokemon).

!!!
All the shines should have their base color be a different color in general, making it a different shade or tint of the same color is both unoriginal, but paired with the mediocre 3D model colors makes some not look different at all!

Based on the pokemon center and the market(?), the graphics look similiar to X/Y, so I expect a small jump. They need to give more colour to the overworld, as well some polygon models.
I just hope they don't fuck up some graphical aspects like Gen V did with the Gen I style pixelated backsprites and the trees looking to blurred. Except that, the visual jump was alright. Oh and please more unique textures after six generations.

3D is actually very cool to me, but pokemon 1. doesn't really have it int he overworld at all, where it would be most interesting, and 2. when it does have it, it isn't very deep. So for the current pokemon games as they are, 3D is basically pointless. They need to utilize it better, IMO.

Agreed. Don't hate it, but I'm not really a big fan of the chibi models.
And I would like the characters doesn't have a big head, but be more human looking, if that makes sense.
