Have you seen it? If yes, I commend you for seeing such an amazing film. If not, GO SEE IT. NOW.

I think it's a good film, but I felt like Barefoot Gen did everything that it did much better.

I feel like I'm in the minority in that one.

I've been meaning to look into Barefoot Gen. Bah, but it was licensed by the now-defunct Geneon, wasn't it? Wonder if I'll have any luck if I look at Therightstuf's clearances.

Never seen it, I'm guessing that it takes place in the same time period as Grave?

Also, before I seek it out, will Barefoot Gen induce hours of crying afterward like Grave of the Fireflies did for me?

edit: What do you suggest, the movie or what appears to be the series? I'm finding both online, the movie or what I'm guessing to be a series? Currently I'm seeing a DVD set that's currently in print in Australia, and I'm finding the Streamline dub of the movie on ebay.

Grave of the Fireflies was alright. Maybe I didn't cry because I don't have any siblings so I can't relate. I watched it with my friend who does have siblings. She didn't cry, but she felt bad when her little sister was crying one time and gave her a french fry (after seeing Grave.)

Yes, I've seen Grave of the Fireflies.

We watched it in my school's anime club. I've gotta say, it's a very good movie! But it's also one of the saddest movies I've ever seen. I felt so sorry for the two kids.... =(

And no, I don't remember crying, but towards the end of the movie, I almost did.

Yeah. I've seen it numerous times. I don't think I actually cried during the movie, but it is one heck of a sad movie.

I did see Barefoot Gen. While both films dealt with the effects of the war, it felt as though the films were quite different. Gen and his family had to endure far greater misfortunes than that of Seita and Setsuko (having experienced the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and all), but the overall feeling you get from watching the movie is not the same as GotF.
With Grave I felt despair, but that is not necessarily the case with Gen, but I don't want to spoil anything further. Do try to watch both movies if you haven't.

Another tear-jerker animated film about the effects of war is When the Wind Blows. It's not anime, but it's highly recommended.

I didnt cry but it is an excellent film
One that did make me cry is Hachiko Monogatari - if you know about the statue of the dog outside the metro station in Tokyo its the story of that dog - slightly old film but great stuff made me cry!!
There is a subititled verison on Veoh i think

I'd rather not watch it. Three minutes of Barefoot Gen turned me into a sobbing wreck, I'd hate to see what this movie would do.

I've seen it, and I think I cried. It was really good.

I remember watching this back in high school. It was around the time when Turner Classic Movie (TCM) was airing a bunch of animated films one night... yeah, this movie made me cry, if you don't feel anything after this, you sir, are either A. A liar, or B. have no emotions.
