Your FRLG rival.

What will they call him in the US versions? Blue, like in the originals? Or, Green?

Didn't they retcon him to being "Green" when the remakes came around? This is a sequel to those, so I suppose he will be Green.

I'm guessing Blue, since they probably want to stay consistant.

Also, if it means anything, the new run on Adventures call him Blue instead of Green. I think had NoA or whoever planned on renaming him, they would have made sure Viz would refer to him as Green.

Why are we even going to bother debating something that we'll actually get a definate answer to?

Since these games are being promoted as secuels to FRLG, we might get Blue renamed Green. Which also would prove that name changes don't mean they're different characters (refering to the Kris thread....)

I'm thinking that they'll stick with Green, since HGSS is to FRLG what GSC was to RBY. They changed Red and Blue to become FireRed and LeafGreen, so I think that that means that they'll be sticking with Green. It ties HGSS in more with FRLG. HGSS is a sequel to FRLG and a remake of GSC after all.

Green.

It's only a name change in NOA versions, and there's no reason not to refer him as Blue.

You think that his name will be Green, but that it will be Blue? What? I don't think I understand...

Green. Since really, these being remakes of FRLG and we've already got Red, logic says Green. Imagine the kids that don't know the story of GSC and all of a sudden they have this guy named Blue. Nah, Green.

What she means is that Green has always had the same name in the Japanese version (because Red and Green were the original Pokemon games, not Red and Blue,) as such, the versions outside of Japan are gonna be the ones to change the name. She thinks he'll be called Green because he's only known as Blue outside of Japan

Just remember that the Special manga canon is different from that of the games. Furthermore, the games have reasons for retconing it, the manga doesn't. Not to mention that isn't even confirmed if the HGSS arc for the manga will have Red, Green and Blue coming back -it might be just Gold, Silver and Crystal.

Why would he be called Green? When has Blue ever been called Green except in Japan? Why because it's LeafGreen? In FRLG, the NoA translation still refers to him as Blue. It would make sense that he's still Blue in HGSS.

Because HGSS is a sequel to FRLG and not RBY?

^And in FRLG, he was called Green, not Blue. So, whether we like it or not, his name has been internationally retconned to Green.

Which actually isn't a retcon at all, since in the original Japanese he's always been Green. It's just NoA correcting what they arbitrary changed in 1998 back to the correct name.

Tell me when or where is he refered to as "Blue" in FRLG, please.

It doesn't really matter. Either way, people are going to know who he is, thanks to the excellent visual aid that is his sprite.

Not necessarily. Since the rival and heroine both have canon epitaphs that pertain to "green", the girl can still be "Green" (akin to how RuSa's beta game is Sapphire, the girl), and the rival can be defaulted to Blue without much impact to the canonicity. If Leaf wasn't there, he would /have/ to be Green, but with her there, they have the choice to make him Green and her Blue, or vice versa...and likely, I imagine it would be the vice versa.

That way, they aren't breaking English canon.

^Assuming Leaf will have a role in HGSS, which hasn't been confirmed.

And with Leaf being officially named Leaf (proved by internal data), that would mean a new retcon, so it would overcomplicate things instead of simplifying them.
