Long time Pokemon fan here!

Although I must say ---- I have not played for about 8 years! Emerald for Game Boy Advance was the last Pokemon game I played. I could not afford to buy a DS back then, so I have since missed out on Gen IV and V. Now I just ordered myself a 3DS, a copy of Pokemon Y and a charger (of course), I can't wait to get stuck in... since I last played the Pokedex has doubled! It's a bit overwhelming, so I found Bulbapedia to help me...which led me here!

I started out back in 1999 with Pokemon Blue, later going on to get Red, Yellow, Gold, Silver, and then Sapphire and Emerald (I missed out on Ruby) for the GBA. The thing I haaaaaaaaated about the GBA was the battery drain, which cost a lot of money. (I don't think you could get an adaptor for it, could you?). Nothing like your batteries running out when you're in the middle of catching a legendary.

Anyway - I stopped playing around 2005-06. Is it worth picking up the older DS games like HG/SS/D/P/PLT/W/B?? Am I missing out on anything there? Getting a full Pokedex on Y is gonna be hard! (Realistically impossible? Is there a way to trade by wi-fi? I need a lot of educating...since I'm the only one I know who will be playing it)

So why did I come back to the world of Pokemon? Quite simply...it's one of my favourite game franchises (besides Grand Theft Auto)...however, as you may have noticed, Grand Theft Auto Online is so broken that I don't want to waste any more time on it. Pokemon is more relaxing and less serious (erm..until you get into breeding and shiny hunting I suppose!)

And also, I hope it's not considered too weird that someone in their mid-20s would still play it. Is it?

I should be getting my 3DS console in the mail tomorrow along with Pokemon Y, can't wait to get started!

Hi welcome to the forums :)

No it is not to weird for someone of your age to play Pokemon, we have many users here including me in our 20's that enjoy playing and this is a great place to meet older fans. I hope you enjoy Y, I found it really fun. Pokemon is indeed a relaxing game and the Pokedex is large but for me, that just means lots of variety and choices :) I hope you'll have a great time here and feel free to ask if you need any help. See you around.

Greetings from across the pond, and welcome back to the game! :D

I'm in the mood to cue up a "catching you up to speed" montage but I'll spare you :p Yes you can trade online now, the 3DS can connect to the Internet so you can organize trades with strangers, or other trainers here at our Trade Station. Your 3DS will get assigned a Friend Code and that's what you use so the rest of us can find you :)

I guess besides Pokemon you'll also be jumping consoles, the 3DS has a good battery life and you can close it shut without turning it off! I'm sure you'll have fun tinkering with the 3DS and be amazed at how the graphics on Pokemon have improved. If you have any other questions ask away and I'm sure we'll be more than happy to oblige!

Welcome to BMGf, Mt. Moon Hiker! I'm sure that others will show you the basics of the newer games if you ask. There are a lot of members here in their 20's.

Akro's right! I'm one of them! Welcome to our extraordinary forums! don't hesitate to ask for any help you might need in the future! Hope you enjoy your time here!! (^u-)~☆

Sorry to post again in this thread (seems there's no section of this forum for people who are totally lost with this new gen of Pokemon?):

I got my 3DS yesterday - it looks amazing! I bought the Pokemon X and Y special edition in blue.

Anyway...long story short, I can't connect it to my router because it's incompatible or something, and have gone through the trouble-shooting and still can't get it to work. I always have problems trying to set things up with the internet! So that means no battles or trades for me I guess, until I get a new router?

Also, when I opened Pokemon Y, I noticed a card inside saying I get an in-game Torchic with Blazikenite....but...it had to be downloaded before 15th January :( Not fair. Why do Nintendo do this? "Event" Pokemon I mean. You should be able to catch every Pokemon without having to jump through Nintendo's hoops. So already I'm a bit taken a back by that [of course, I wouldn't have been able to download my Torchic anyway since I can't get the thing connected...though I could find a wi-fi hotspot somewhere, I guess.)

Going to start playing now anyway... :)

No one wants to help me? :(
What kind of routers do you use?

There should be a section of this forum for people to ask "n00b" type questions or for people like me who haven't played for years and years.

I'm 9 hours into Y..enjoying it so far..not even up to the 2nd gym!

Welcome back to the game. Don't worry about the age, I'm 25, still play, and I'm not even the oldest player. By the way, this was posted from my 3DS.
