While I was surfing in the net, I found the site with Beta English names of Pokemon. The first 151's names wasn't anything new to me. I already known them. But there were also 3 GSC Pokemon on the list - Dunsparce (whose beta name was Duglari according to this site), Misdreavus (whose beta name is Trillix) and Xatu (whose beta name was Xoqo). Of course, I typed these names in Google and started searching the game. I found several sites, veeeery old ones. They had lists of "New" GS Pokemon.

I got pretty surprised when I saw that there was MORE beta names.

According to various sites:

Hoothoot's name was going to be spelt Hoot-Hoot
Xatu's name was going to be Xoqo
Ampharos's name was going to be Centerity (I like Centerity alot)
Marill's and Azumarill's name were going to be spelt Marril and Azumarril respectively (yeah, I even have "Marril" in my First Movie comic book)
Misdreavus's name was going to be Trillix
Wobbufet's name was going to be Crashin
Dunsparce's name was going to be Duglari
Teddiursa's name was going to be Moonlite
Piloswine's name was going to be Torvado
Smeargle's name was going to be Ebeagle
Tyrogue's name was going to be Hitmontot
Celebi's name was going to be spelt Selebi

^ Those was listed on most sites. However, one site, yes, ONLY ONE, so I don't really trust it, lists Crobat as Kurobat, Natu as Natee, Xatu as Natotem, Shuckle as Octorock, Ursaring as Soloar, Piloswine as Sirnub and Smeargle as Artibull. But it's only one site. So, it could be made up by that site.

Another strange thing that there are several lists that list Wobbuffet's, Teddiursa's and Tyrgoue's names as Unknown. (yes, only these three). So, that's possible that these three (Crashin, Moonlite and Hitmontot) were made-up or later revealed.

I have also Snubble in my First Movie comic book.

However, I also found something strange on these sites:
Natu is listed as Xatu
Yanma is listed as Dunsparce
Wooper is listed as Ampharos
Pineco is listed as Skarmory
Qwlfish is listed as Wobbuffet
Sneasel is listed as Misdreavus
Skarmory is listed as Wooper

Some sites also mix up Flaffy's and Skiploom's names.

It sounds fishy. Many sites list these Pokemon as such. So, I'm not really sure about these ones. Because it's strange that the names that belong to certain Pokemon were going to belong to another Pokemon. Were they revealed wrong or wrong interpreted? Because these are real names but they belong to different Pokemon. Can someone who remembers these times explain that?

Back before the games came out, I had found some of the purported names and written them down, so I remember some of them.

I remember Trillix, and I distinctly remember Sneasel being called Misdreavus somewhere because I drew a picture of it and labeled it as such.

IIRC, the copyright database was discovered before anyone had any clue what was named what. Hence a bunch of people decided

This little blue thing looks amphibious! This must be the one called Ampharos!

and so on.

Yeah, I remember that too. I was on a roleplay site at the time names were starting to be tossed around, and I can very clearly remember roleplaying with a "Misdreavus" who later became a Sneasel... and the Trillix's that had been lurking about then became Misdreavus'. It made for quite a bit of confusion. XD

I really can't image Wobbuffet being called "Crashin", I'm glad they changed it.
