Variety reported Wednesday that Guy Ritchie, director of such films as “Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrells” and “Snatch,” has signed on to direct a feature film based on Lobo, the ultraviolent DC Comics character created by Keith Giffen and Roger Slifer.

The film will be produced for Warner Bros. by Joel Silver, Akiva Goldsman and Andrew Rona, with the most recent script written by Don Payne.

According to Variety, the story at present will depict Lobo as “a seven-foot tall, blue-skinned, indestructible and heavily muscled anti-hero who drives a pimped out motorcycle, and lands on Earth in search of four fugitives who are bent on wreaking havoc.” In this version of the film, Lobo will team-up with a “small town teenaged girl” to stop the villains.

Production is to begin next year on what WB aims to be a PG-13 film.

Yes...THAT Lobo. I smell a dud in the making.

I slapped myself on the face when I just read about this guy you'd think they'd try to make a superhero movie about a comic that's actually good, like wonder woman or the green lanturn.

I now declare the Death of hollywood

They're not going to give a good character to Guy Ritchie.

Well, maybe not all his movies are trash and the important keyword is "almost". I don't know...

Wait, how long have they been planning a Lobo film? o.o *oblivious*

Never heard of him or any of his movies, aside from the upcoming Sherlock Holmes. Um, I'll just hope for the best.

Wait, how long have they been planning a Lobo film? o.o *oblivious*

There's been long-standing Lobo rumors, like the long-standing Deadpool rumors. Nothing anyone expected anything to come out of, but...obviously both are going to happen. So...yeah...you're no more oblivious than any other non-die-hard Lobo fan.

This sounds like a flop. Lobo's cool, but a movie?

Hopefully, this'll get stuck in development hell so we never see its ugly face.

@Magmaster: A GL film is in the works.

I'm not sure about this. I mean Lobo is usually cool when he guest stars in Superman comics and cartoons (since he’s a nice polar opposite for the Man of Steel), but I always found him dull when he's solo.
