I have noticed a lot of people using really bad language here. I mean i use it a lot but im saying this for the benifit of others. There ARE children here you know! I swear a lot and really dont care if other people do but i mean if i was a parent and my child was on a forum with people saying rude things i would get their account deleted and whats that doing for the reputation of the forums at all?

Its not just swearing, iv found rude posts including sexually related topics too. It isnt funny, kids ARE on this site and what would happen if they see a post such as that and go repeating it at their mother or farther or anyone else for that matter? They think its OK to say things like that.

A lot of bulbagarden forums is operated by teenagers and adults, which means yeah theres going to be some bad posts slip through the system but really it should be up to the mods to get rid of stuff like that.

If we feel we MUST have our little swearing sesions why not BGF have a kids area? Like where under 10's can talk? and then anywhere else from there we can eff and blind all we want.

Ill say what i said before, i posted this for the benifit of others i dont have anything against bad words at all.

I know theres going to be some hate messages posted up here so im guessing the topic will be closed sooner or later. At least take it on board that kids are on this site and it isnt just teenagers and adults ok?

I'll be frank - if people want a forum without swearing, more aimed at little kids, they should just go to Serebii. I know you're trying to help the forum be more child friendly, but I really don't think that's what's needed.

Since when is Serebii more "child-friendly" than this place...?

The solution is simple. If a child is young enough to be offended or influenced by something of a more mature nature on a web site, then they clearly shouldn't be there in the first place.

Ignoring the simple fact that this site simply isn't as bad as you're making it out to sound in the first place... *facepalm*

...I have to go with the obvious fact that it is up to the child's parents to chaperone their child's behavior and to monitor which sites they are allowed to visit.

It isn't this site's job to chaperone.

This would be like trying to get, oh Idk, PG13 movies to "tone down" their content. You could TRY to do this. OR you could just not let your younger than 13 years old child not see any of those movies.

Besides, again I must reiterate, this site has never been, IMHO, remotely profane. Let it go.

Never ;-) But since the OP's main shtick seems to be profanities, and seeing as how you're not able to swear on Sppf...

But the kids will have to learn about this stuff SOMETIME in their life. Swear words are unavoidable things in life.

I'm with the Vaporean. If you can't have a conversation without using profanities, you've lost the ability to communicate. It's just not needed.

So we should ban all profanities because people who use them have "lost the ability to communicate"? That makes a ton of sense.

This forum's always been aimed at more mature members. A little swearing's going to happen now and again. Things CAN cross the line, though. If you feel a post is inappropriate, report it and the staff will deal with it in an appropriate manner.

I agree also. It doesn't matter if you feel the need to swear or no, you can simply not do it, is it that hard? I too have become fed up with seeing swearng alot, but didn't want to bring it up, but now that someone has, I am.

I most definitely agree with Shinx and Ryuu.
Profanities aren't just "words", you know. Many people find profanities very offensive, and not just children, adults as well.

If you can't seem to find a word that will suffice in the place of a profanity, you need to seriously learn some english.

Fuck you.

(No direct offensiveness or hate intended, and is simply an unavoidable consequence of the style used for the record. Alternatively, I would've said "I don't give a fuck.")

Hells yeah. Have a beer, mate. The only reason why I'm even on this board is because of the leniancy on it. We're being serious now, no dangerous wordplay here! If it were like any other Pokemon board, I wouldn't have joined in the first place. So what if kids run across it? This is the internet; there's far worse things to worry about running across than a fuck here, a shit there, and the occasional cunt (in text or image form). People who visit it will be corrupted by something regardless of what measures are taken, and in our specific case the real crazy stuff usually has appropriate warnings on it or gets deleted anyway.

Whatever we do, though, we'll never be able to get rid of stupid fan beliefs and overly moralistic people (the former even chased off a few well-respected members). A man can dream, though. Holocaust of shippers, I pray your day comes!

EDIT: And just because, I'll repost what I posted in the thread I linked.

3) "Oh fuck" is no less tasteless than "Oh darn"; they're both explitives used to express distaste in what just happened. The only difference is one has more impact than the other. And anyone who lightens it up as much as possible is...well...socially inept, to put it in their terms.
4) People swear all the time in the real world, and anyone who thinks not swearing makes you more, "maaaaaaatuuurrre", has been brainwashed by their parents/special ed class/socially inept people's group.
5) There is a line to be drawn, as always. Though said line is actually pretty far down the line - pretty much limited to only the most professional and formal of settings, and even there exist acceptable uses.

In my opinion, swearing is much better than grammatic and spelling errors, such as "Guys i have something to say..."

Why don't we teach kids how to properly format language, then we can think about how we're destroying them with words that have arbitrarily been labelled bad, and no-nos.

Besides, I need to swear, it makes me fucking manlier.

In fact, the overwhelmingly vast majority aren't.

And how often do we have some dumb 9 year old wander in? Not very, and they usually get banned because they fail at netiquette. Because they're 9. ._.;

I agree with what was said earlier, mods should not have to babysit for kids. Smart parents will watch what sites their kids visit.

Christ... kids can go look up porn whenever they want to. The whole concept of "kid-friendly" sites is a joke because it's the internets. It's not PG.

And please, please don't bring up parental locks. D:

Ah, I see your point. My bad. :)

And yes, as has just been said, the Internet just isn't child-friendly to begin with. Like I said, if a parent just lets their kid go online to do whatever, well then, if they come across swearing, so what? I never understood the idea of everyone censoring themselves just in case perhaps maybe it might (no matter how unlikely) offend (or in this case, negatively influence) someone else. :-/

So yeah...

Well... No, that's being extremely over protective.
I think that society in general should stop being so uptight and whiny about these things, and drive kids to looking at those kinds of sites when their parents aren't looking, because they're so deprived of anything remotely naughty by our teachers and parents.

I was suspended in grade three for saying the word "boob" with a teacher present.

Try this club.

This site isn't intended to be merely for children. No where does it say that. Therefore, parents have full responsibility for any content they might deem offensive their children might see on this website.
