Both Gyarados and Chaizard are Pokemon from Gen I that are strongly associated with Dragons despite not being Dragon type Pokemon. They're also very popular Pokemon in their own right.

1. Which one do you think has the best design?

2. Which one would win in a battle?

3. Which one is more useful for battling?

4. Is there anything you don't like about either/both of them?

5. Should either of them have been Dragon typed instead of Flying?

6. Which is the winner for you and why?

Which one do you think has the best design? Chaizard

Which one would win in a battle? Gyarados

Which one is more useful for battling? Gyarados

4. Is there anything you don't like about either/both of them? Chaizard is a little overrated, and both have 4x weakness to something

5. Should either of them have been Dragon typed instead of Flying? no, they're strong enough as it is.

6. Which is the winner for you and why? Gyarados, a wimpy fish that becomes a overpowered beast? yes please!

1. Gyarados, it has more detail than Charizard, who is just a European Dragon.

2. Gyarados again, Charizard doesn't have any moves on his disposal to OHKO the sea serpent before he could retaliate with a OKHO SE move.

3. Gyarados, it suffers less from Stealth Rock than poor Charizard.

4. Gyarados' uselessness in Gen II and III, and Charizard's 4x Stealth Rock weakness.

5. Well Charizard would welcome a dragon typing to lose its 4x weakness. Besides, Empoleon's Steel typing got rid of his Grass weakness, so I say why not for Charizard's loss for his Water weakness.

6. Gyarados, there is a reason why it's even OU (bulk, only two electric types in OU, great stats, and less-punishable SR weakness).

Gyarados. The very large and intimidating appearance fits its power.

Which one would win in a battle?

Gyarados. It has the type advantage and much better distributed stats. Only way Charizard could possibly win is if it hits Gyarados with a HP Electric or Thunderpunch critical, providing Gyarados doesn't already have a speed advantage from Dragon Dance.

Which one is more useful for battling?

Gyarados, without a doubt. It's among the toughest Pokemon of. Charizard gets outclassed by many Pokemon.

Is there anything you don't like about either/both of them?

I hated Gyarados' lack of good physical moves in Gen II. Without a good Special Attack stat, it was nowhere near as fun to use as it was in Gen I.

Should either of them have been Dragon typed instead of Flying?

Gyarados is fine as it is, and Charizard would have too much of an advantage over the other starters if it was part-Dragon.

Which is the winner for you and why?

Gyarados by a landslide. One of the weakest Pokemon of all becomes a total powerhouse, greatly rewarding your hard work and patience. What's not to love?

Which one do you think has the best design?

I have always been more accustomed to the Sea Dragon/Serpent look rather than the medieval Dragon, so Gyarados's design is my most favoured out of the two. Oh and it's blue my favourite colour.

Which one would win in a battle?

Gyarados would most likely win the battle due to it's over whelming type and stat advantage it has over Charizard. Charizard could have an ace up it's sleeve like a Will-o-Wisp, or HP Electric, but overall Gyarados will usually stand as the victor.

Which one is more useful for battling?

They both have the power, but Gyarados has the defensive bulk to match, which is something Charizard only dreams of.

Is there anything you don't like about either/both of them?

No I love them both for their appearance and versatile battling roles.

Should either of them have been Dragon typed instead of Flying?

Gyarados may have benefited more so being a Water/Dragon type like Kingdra, but It's still an amazing Pokemon without this typing, so I guess it's fine as it is. If Charizard wasn't a starter then yes it should have been a Fire/Dragon type, but because it's a starter it makes absolute sense why it's not and besides the Dragon type was meant to be very rare back in Generation 1.

Which is the winner for you and why?

I remember when my Magikarp first evolved into Gyarados back in Gen 1 and I have had such pleasure using this Pokemon over the years more so than Charizard, therefore Gyarados is the winner for me.

1. Which one do you think has the best design?
Draw. Both look equally awesome.

2. Which one would win in a battle?
Gyarados,it can easily ko Charizard with type advantage or Stone Edge. Charizard has little chance here.

3. Which one is more useful for battling?
Gyarados again. I even have one on my team.

4. Is there anything you don't like about either/both of them?
Both share a weakness to rock which hinders them.

5. Should either of them have been Dragon typed instead of Flying?
No,due to imbalance it would have caused, but if one of them had to,I'd choose Charizard.

6. Which is the winner for you and why?
Charizard. Odd,since I use Gyarados, but Charizard has that 'European dragon' vibe which makes it just a bit more awesome than Gyarados. Both excellent Pokemon though.

Depending on who trains it. If Kiawe trains a Charizard, he wins. If Misty trains a Gyarados, she would win. But if they are both wild, Gyarados would win because more people go out sea and may cause more damage.

1. Which one do you think has the best design?
- Both have excellent designs, but I prefer Charizard's one.

2. Which one would win in a battle?
- Gyarados, type advantage, more stats, better stats distribution.

3. Which one is more useful for battling?
- Gyarados, by a million miles.

4. Is there anything you don't like about either/both of them?
- I like them both.

5. Should either of them have been Dragon typed instead of Flying?
- Yes, Gyarados, because, in practice, it doesn't fly.

Gyarados, as standard Charizard is meh design-wise and disappointing in battle. That being said, I like Charizard's Megas a lot better than Mega Gyarados.
