I was just on the GTS, and saw that a Shiny Deoxys (level 30) was on offer; they wanted a level ten and up Spheal in return. Naturally, I made the trade. But then it struck me - why would anybody want to trade a Shiny Deoxys for a fairly common Spheal? I checked in comparison to my other two level 30 Deoxys, and it appears legit. It says it was obtained in Hoenn, in June of this year, and caught with a Master Ball. But unless it was cloned, why would somebody trade it for a Spheal?

What are your gut instincts on this?

It's possible that someone wanted a Spheal and was being generous by making Deoxys the offer.

I don't know how likely that was the reason but it could be true.
 
All I can think of is that they cloned it. I didn't turn it down though, =P. It's not the one you're getting though Craig!
 
Hmmm.... I'll take him if u dont want him!!! Besides he probally cloned it in Emerald. Clones have the same stats as the origanal pokemon.

Actually, it was caught in a Master Ball (but so are two of the other Deoxys I've had at some point in time - thats what its for, right?) The OT of the shiny is ABC. But if it was event-enabled and not just a giveaway (like with the recent Mew UK tour), then ABC could very well be the trainers name, couldn't it?
 
At the very least, it's a clone; Deoxys is rare enough as it is, and a legit shining Deoxys is two or three orders of magnitude rarer than the normal version. No one would just give away the real McCoy for a random normal Poke.

Shiny versions of unobtainable legendaries are very often hacked. There's no way to know for sure (you can check to see what its IVs are like), but it's highly probable.
 
it has to be a clone because if this person caught the original deoxys with a master ball, cloning it would cause the master ball to copy too. they probably used a hacking clone to assure it would be shiny, too. most likely they made so many copies that they can afford to give it away. it's good that you took it, because that is quite a deal, but be careful because the shiny deoxys might carry a glitch or virus that could affect your best friend's game if they use it a certain way. i can't be sure, but it's better than finding out that your save file has been fatally corrupted.
 
There are always a ton of shiny Deoxys on the GTS, I'm pretty sure that they are all(or mostly) hacked. I see at least 2 shiny Deoxys every day on there.

Actually I just checked the GTS and in one search I saw 5 shiny Deoxys. No kidding, it's the first time I've ever seen that many before.

The owner of this Deoxys is doing some sort of giveaway. He is trading away this same Deoxys in exchange for Level 10 Spheal. If you don't see it, wait ten minutes like I did; he puts another one back onto the GTS.
 
Sorry, but even if the replicating didn't happen, ABC is the most suspicious name out there.
 
Well, I'm wishing I had read this thread previously. They got me too tonight. Although this time it was a Pineco level 20 and up they wanted. I only looked since I was on the GTS after throwing up a Ponyta to try and get a Japanese Psyduck to possibly help out a friend;. Should have known it was too good to be true.
 
Could someone sticky this thread? It might be useful to have a place to discuss possibly hacked Pokemon recieved in trades
