Had any close calls?

Like when you thought you were gonna lose against one opponent and then you won by some strange occurrence of luck? Or some other event?

I had one when battling Fantina in her Gym. I lost my top Pokemon and was down to lower leveled pokemon. I was getting really really afraid that I would lose and still battled on despite my fears. Then with me being down to my lowest leveled Pokemon, I somehow defeated Fantina's last Pokemon. I was shocked and opened my mouth for a while. After I got the Badge and the usual obligatory TM, I then went back to reality and rushed out of the Gym as fast as I could so I could heal all the Pokemon that had fainted. I realized that I could've lost my first Gym battle ever, but still won with my lowest leveled Pokemon that I recently had caught.

That experience though made me stronger and made me realize the importance of not only having one, two or three top leveled powerhouse Pokemon, but also strengthening and equalizing my team for whatever may come and switching when I knew I'd be going into an area where one or two Pokemon had a type disadvantage. That experience taught me how to be more strategic.

Has any of you had any close calls like I did, and did it make you stronger and better as a fellow Pokemon Trainer?

Tell all below this......

Against Lance. It was soooo very close. One pokemon left against Charizard and no more full restores.

Heracross's Megahorn not getting a critical hit, or using Stone Edge, when my Yanii-chan fought Hall Matron Argenta for the Silver Print. I was shocked when it outsped me.

Kingdra finishing off the enemy team in a Battle Factory Double Battle, with his HP so low that one hit would KO him.

This is also why I always save up before a Gym battle in order to get Full Restores, Potions, Max Potions and the like. Also I like to stock up on healing berries and status effect cures like Antidote or Paralyz Heal.

I also try to equip my Pokemon with items that will ensure greater power in their moves so that they can be at full power and potential.

I've had so many close calls that I lost count... almost all of them being in the E4 and against the Champion.

My first boss battle in Pokemon XD Gale of Darkness. I have no idea how my Spheal was able to out-speed Loverina's Roselia.
The first time I beat Cynthia in pokemon Diamond. Four words: I! Hate! Her! Milotic!

Tell me about it. In Platinum, her Milotic was the only Pokemon of hers that I had trouble beating. Other than that, most of the E4 and Cynthia's other Pokes were kind of a breeze... except maybe Bertha... her Hippowdon almost kicked my ass. o_O

Not quite as close as the OP, but fun.

I was EV training a Chansey earlier today that only had one attacking move; when I ran into a wild Wobbuffet. I've forgotten to heal, so I only have PP for Growl, Refresh and Softboiled. Because I can't attack it, Wobbuffet can't attack me, so I was sat there for about ten minutes using up all this PP. We both happened to run out at the same time, so it came down to who could Struggle the best.

Long story short, I won, but it messed up my training no end. :D

Defeating Tate&Liza in Pokemon Emerald.
My Sceptile had pretty much no HP left and just my luck, their Solrock used Harden instead of Flamethrower.

He, i found the milotic very easy, Course, I knew aqua ring was Coming and i had a Focus punch Machamp

same battle, i was out of PP with machamp for Cross chop and Dynamic punch, all she had left was Garchomp, all i had left was Machamp, The next hit would KO me, my Next hit would KO him
Focus punch
Outrage MISSES
Focus punch KO

Speaking of Milotic, I was battling Palmer in HG today, and I had my Bellossom and Ampharos left against his Milotic (his Rhyperior and Dragonite lost to my Vaporeon). He beat Vaporeon before I could attack, then wiped out Ampharos with a critical Surf (ffff) and so I was not feeling okay about having to use Bellossom. He used Ice Beam. Ice Beam left Bellossom with like 20 HP, I used Giga Drain (with Big Root) and hit slightly less than half... then the thing decided to use Hypnosis.

Missed.

I used Giga Drain again. It's down to a tiny sliver of red. Hypnosis again.

Missed.

I hit with Magical Leaf and won.

Smart move, Palmer.

Had a fun one not too long ago with Morty in HGSS, where his bastard of a Gengar had murdered all my useful Pokemon, but his final Haunter was nice enough to kill itself with two Curses while I stalled with my Beedrill and HM slave Raticate.

It's occured at least 2 times with me.

1) Happened when I was at the Battle Frontier Battle Factory. I had Natu as my lead, and it was brought down to 1 HP. However, just by continuously spamming omnious wind and Future Sight, I managed to beat every pokemon the trainer set out on me. I used to think Natu sucked, but that actually made me think otherwise. :O

2) Again at the battle factory, this time in a double battle paring with someone over wifi. One match my partner's two dragon pokemon got their asses whipped by a Loudred and a Bronzor, and I was down to my special sweeper Gengar. It took a heavy hit, but sure enough, it still had 1 HP LEFT! Because the Loudred was poisoned at the time, it already fainted, and the Bronzor used a move that, while it could have obliterated Gengar, lowered its special defense, I managed to kill it off with a Shadow Ball, and I actually won. My partner even pmed me surprised at how we even won that battle, but I should have saved that one for a battle video.

In Platinum: Yanmega vs. Argenta's Regirock in the Battle Hall. Regirock survived a Bug Buzz. I thought it'd use Stone Edge and KO Yanmega, but it used Giga Impact instead (and Yanmega survived that one).

Every time I fought Red in the original Silver game, it seems like.

I just had one with the Battle factory's leader. I only won because the AI used Fake Out after it used another move. And I was at 3 HP and Sandstorm was in play. Thank you terrible AI.

Eh, I only got through the SS E4 with dozens of Revival Herbs and some pretty decent strategy. The boyfriend's incredulous at how little I train. All I've left to do is beat Red, and I think I have no more than 2 team members over/on level 50.

So yes, I have close calls all the time, and no, they don't teach me anything. Except to put all your trust on Grass Knot. <3

@PlatinumDude Regirock!? I fought a Heracross...

I had another close call; Venomoth surviving Shadow Ball (!?) and nearly OHKOing with a dual-resisted Bug Buzz (even with Tinted Lens, I still resisted it).

me against my rival. It was a battle that literally took 20 mins. Finally, i was left with my lv 1 eevee and his lv 15 ghastly, or some level like that. Cursex2 does the trick.

Weeeeell...

...First time I challenged Red...
I defeated his last Pokémon. With my last Pokémon.
I had 1 HP left.

Then came the Hail...
