And voila. Bush is (some would say "at last") a former president, and Barack Obama is now the president of the United States.

Did you watch the ceremony? What did you think of it? Was Warren's prayer tolerable despite everything, or an abomination? What about the inaugural address?

I didn't get to see it because I had a class. I only caught the tail end of his inaugural speech. I'll have to catch it on the news tonight.

It was rather elaborate.

Well, compared to what I'm used to i.e. a room with ministers reading off a piece of paper.

I've been watching all day and I thought the whole thing was really nice. Warren's prayer was surprisingly good. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I thought it fit the mood quite well.

All the music was great, but I especially liked the instrumental piece right before Obama was sworn it. His first speech was very much in tone with all his others. This will just be the first in a long line of great Presidential speeches from him.

Biden and Obama being sworn in was more exciting than I thought it would be. I've seen a few inaugurations before, but this one meant more to me since it's the first time since I could vote that it actually mattered. I was first old enough to vote when Bush was reelected four years ago, but that wasn't exactly something to get excited about.

It was hilarious how the Chief Justice messed up the Oath. How is that even possible?

The menu for the lunch sounds kinda strange, but that's the norm for these fancy lunches.

All in all, this historical day was pulled off nearly perfectly. I think the slight flubbing of the oath will just make this day even more memorable. Looking forward to the parade and whatever other events are televised.

More like Fail to the Chief

I wasn't sure if I was going to watch the inauguration, but since I didn't have anything else to do today I figured I'd watch it on TV. I'm glad I did, since now I'll be able to tell my grandchildren one day that I saw Obama screw up the oath of office.

When compared to the inauguration four years ago, the media coverage was very telling. I noticed that back then the media focused on the protesters, but today, they haven't shown any protesters so far.

I saw the last maybe like 5 minutes.

I'm just glad that Bush is out of there.

I woke up early to check it out, it was nice. Really liked that orchestral piece, I want a mp3 of that. And the poem afterward sucked. The way it was read was annoying. Obama gave a great speech, even if he did mess up the oath.

Man, people are going to whine so much for the next eight years, aren't they?

But screw that. Congratulations to the United States of America for getting a president who, at the very least, can actually speak coherently and think for himself.

Obama gave a decent swearing in speech, nothing over the top and it certainly fits his style. I like that he's a motivator, and his speech and all his actions leading up to this day are metaphors that America does need to return to its hard-working roots.

The ceremonies were a nice touch and like you guys, I loved Yo-Yo Ma's performance between Biden's oath and Obama's Oath. not exactly the music I'd expect at the Inauguration, but it was one of those unexpected pleasantries that made the ceremony nicer.

The oath of office fumble was a sincere error. I'm sure the Chief Justice was just nervous. It's nothing to really get worked up over.

As nice as it would have been to make it out to the Mall, waking up at 3AM, putting up with the nightmarish traffic and the freezing conditions weighed heavily against that decision. I'm just glad I don't have to commute or go anywhere today, our area traffic is a complete mess right now. Besides, I think watching it on TV was much better for anyone's point of view and the streams handled it well. My friend and I watched most of it on C-Span, no commentaries and a completely unadulterated experience.

I found the whole gaffe thing quite adorable, actually. But I'm weird and don't think presidents are superhuman.

I think that the address he gave won't be fully appreciated for years to come, but it had incredible foresight...to the question of protesters, are there any? Even conservative sites (Townhall) haven't mentioned any.

Still, a really special day for America.

I'm sure there are protesters at every inauguration. No matter who is becoming president, there will always be people opposed to them, especially in this case since it's a black person that's being inaugurated. Of course, given the nature of most of the people that would be protesting a black person becoming president, I'm sure many of them have been escorted out. So maybe that's why were not seeing any.

^I heard security was doubled today for reasons like that

All classes were canceled today so we could watch the inauguration. His speech was pretty good, but I have to agree with what my social studies teacher said: This is one historical event that is meant to be watched on TV. The newscaster even said that half of the people there didn't see or hear anything.

There's a big difference between "there's always protestors" and the ones that showed up at Bush's second go round. What with there having been a clear and definable thing to protest against...and that was kind of a news story in itself. Look at Bush in 2000. I guarantee you there were no protestors aside from the ones who were still ticked off over Florida.

Personally, I saw the vast majority of the coverage. Had to walk out during his speech to deal with something, but ultimately...I liked what I saw and heard. And, honestly, for the first time, I actually got why people have so much hope and faith in him. I finally got that feeling. Was nice. Hopefully he can keep it up. Was also nice to see Biden, briefly, interacting with Obama's kids. I figured all the stuff about them interacting before Biden was chosen was just political BS, but seeing Biden take a picture for Obama's oldest daughter made it really seem like the two families had, actually, gotten close. The entire thing was a cool to see.

Where I live, school was out. I saw it on TV at my grandparents house (they told me it was historic.) It was a great ceremony.
EDIT: did anyone catch the crowd singing when bush left?

That's par for the course when it comes to establishment journalists. They love Democrats and hate Republicans. Meh.

I really liked it, and the speech was excellent.

Yeah, you'd expect anyone to do that.

I wish President Obama Godspeed.

I heard most of his speech, though I was preoccupied with something. I'll say this; him and his family have a lot of charmisa. What part of the oath was fumbled exactly though?

I cannot wait to see some of the things he's going to do. Though he will be under heavy scrutiny.

I'm surprised noone found it ironic that Cheny was in a wheelchair. I guess he thought the moving boxes were quails or something.

I also found Bush(despite not being one of the best presidents) to be quite humble in the transfer of offices.

I don't know if anyone knew or not, Ted Kennedey was rushed to the hospital after he was having comvulsions.

His health is bad, with his terminal disease and all.
