Since my last thread was popular I thought I'd make another in-depth thread. This time focusing on another topic pretty dear to me. I will list a couple of questions to start us off so let's get started shall we. :)

Questions: How do you usually keep your hair? Do you style it often? Do you wear it up or down more often? Do you prefer your hair long or short and what's the longest / shortest you've had it? How often do you cut your hair? What is your hair care routine like? (If you have one that is.)

If you have short hair you can still comment on this thread too. Short hair is still hair and it is still nice!

My natural hair is thick and wavy-ish. I don't style it often and I try to avoid using too much heat on my hair. I make special exceptions mostly for blow drying (when I don't have time or am too impatient to towel and air dry), and I always use heat protectant spray. Sometimes I flat iron my hair for events but rarely, and when my hair was super long I wore it up most of the time, but now that my hair is shorter I've been wearing it down almost all the time.

For most of my life I've had pretty long hair - My hair recently reached a littttle below my waist then I got 10 inches chopped off after getting hired for my new job working morning shifts (because I didn't feel I had time to care for it every morning anymore), and it was becoming more difficult to maintain because of it.

As for my hair care routine - Coconut oil, almond oil and EVOO mask once a week. I did this while my hair was really long because it benefited from the nourishment and I'd wash it 3-4 days a week with Garnier Fructis Hydra Recharge and other shampoos. Also while damp I'd spray on some leave in conditioner and brush it out with a wide tooth comb or paddle brush. This left my hair really smooth, silky, healthy, and free of tangles. ^^

I grab shampoo and conditioner from the best-smelling part of the aisle at the store. pfffffffft mang idgaf

How do you usually keep your hair?
My hair is medium-length, going a little past my shoulders, and is lightly curly. Sometimes it likes to curl around itself like an anime ringlet. Normally I wear my hair down, but secure it away from my face with a headband and cute hairclips.
I've been considering dying it lately...but I'd have to bleach it first and I don't think I like that idea. Maybe i can tint it instead.

Do you style it often?
Nope! Styling is something I do for a special occasion, normally it's too much work. Especially since it's super-thick.

Do you wear it up or down more often?
Down. My face is so narrow that when I put it up, I look like a straight line and it creeps me out.

Do you prefer your hair long or short and what's the longest / shortest you've had it?
I prefer my hair this length. The shortest I've had was a pixie cut (hated it), and the longest it's ever gotten was to my butt.

How often do you cut your hair?
Layered and trimmed every summer.

What is your hair care routine like?
On any given day, brush with a round brush and call it good. In the shower I like to use standard shampoo, then tea tree conditioner for my scalp, then standard conditioner on the ends. I don't like using hair dryers, so instead I wear it in a towel for half an hour and then let the rest air-dry.

I like having my hair long. At the moment I don't think it's long enough but apparently people consider shoulder-length "long" (and I consider those people "crazy"). Mine is currently down to my hips but blaaaaaaah it needs to grow faster. The front of my hair is kinda complicated. I have bangs down to my eyebrows, then a small section on either side that goes halfway down my face, and then a larger section on either side that goes down to around my shoulders. ... soooooooo I just went to try to find an anime pic online to try to give a visual (cause I hate pics of me, blame stupid society pages when I was a kid) and APPARENTLY this is called a "hime cut," which explains why my boyfriend calls it my "princess hair" when I put it up (cause hair down the front parts kinda blend into the back). I guess I can't get annoyed with him anymore for that. ^<__<^;;

I prefer to wear it down but it is so bloody hot here I rarely get to do so. Sometimes I'll compromise and do a half-ponytail but even that is too hot about 3/4 of the year so generally the long part is up in a ponytail and the front is down (and if I'm going to go running or something then the longer front parts go up in the ponytail too, and I put the rest back with hair clips cause nobody wants hair in their face when they're sweating).

If I'm leaving the house I flat-iron the everloving hell out of it. My hair isn't curly, just poofy. I dunno how to explain this, it's just annoying. ^^;; Of course if I'm just having it up in a ponytail I usually only flat-iron the front part. I generally don't use a hairdryer though unless I got lazy on the day I was supposed to wash my hair and ended up having to wash it before class (although sometimes I'll just put the long part up in a ponytail, still wet, and let the front airdry and flat-iron that part before leaving). Fun fact though: in high school I had hair just above my shoulders and if it was cold outside (I went to boarding school in Pennsylvania, where it actually snows) and I put mousse in my hair my hair would get curly. I don't know, my hair is drunk or something. ^^;; Cause the front part is that short and doesn't curl so I have no idea (although there is this weird lock of hair at the back of my head that will curl up if I put my hair up to airdry. It is literally just that one lock of hair though, what is up with you hair???).

I prefer my hair long and wish it was longer~ this is my normal length though but hopefully it will be longer in the future. The shortest was when I was like three I think. I wanted bangs, mum wouldn't let me get bangs, so one time when they put me upstairs in their room during a cocktail party I scaled mum's closet and got her nail scissors out of where she was keeping them "out of reach of children" and pulled half my hair forward in front of my face and cut it off to make bangs. ^<__<^;; Since I was three I did a terrible job and butchered my hair so I had to get it all cut short. I guess it's called a bob? I don't know words. It was about chin-length, which sucks cause I had hair halfway down my back then. BUT! I did get my bangs so suck it, mum!

I cut my hair about once a year. Mum used to force me to go to the salon 1-2 times a week growing up, from elementary school through high school so I haaaaaaaaaaaaate salons now, especially since most of the time the stylist wouldn't listen to me and just do whatever they wanted with my hair. I got traumatised once cause we went in for a trim and next thing I knew this douchebag had cut off over half a foot of my hair. Motherfucker. ^>__<^;; Now I see a nice lady named Machikosan who cuts my hair once a year and she cuts it the way I want so it's cool, but I still don't want to go more often. ^<__<^;;

mm... I TRY to wash my hair every 3-4 days but with coursework and all sometimes it ends up being more like once every 7-10 days. ^T__T^ gross. I use four different conditioners on it that I mix all together: one is a salon brand that's supposed to "heal" your hair, one is a strengthening one, one is for shiny hair, and one is a keratin complex thingy. When I have time I leave it in my hair for like three hours and then rinse it out. I own heat spray but never use it like a terrible person.

Omg ikr.. I can't understand how some people consider shoulder-length hair long. Maybe on a boy though.. Hip length is pretty darn long though! Mine would have been around that length now had I not gotten a haircut! I just don't have time to maintain it anymore and soon enough it will already be summer. Also, by your description I knew you were talking about the hime cut so you described your bangs really well. :) For me when it's hot I usually put my hair in ponytail or a sock bun, but I'll also wear it up and loose because I <3 loose ponytails.

Why the heck didn't your mom let you get bangs?! That's.. odd to say the least.=P When I was little my mom would cut my bangs herself about every few months or so because she thought they made me look really cute. Now my bangs reach just below my collar bone so I guess I don't really have bangs now. xD I do enjoy bangs though and I've had mine both side swept and blunt on separate occasions. Part of the reason I grew my bangs out is because I now know how to fake bangs, so if I want to rock le bangs I know how to even without actually having them! xD

My mum has always been controlling in a really weird way. Ofc now that I'm in my 30s I just roll my eyes at her and ignore her, but it's always weird as hell. She never actually gives a reason though. Like, I know when speaking to a child "because" or "because I said so" is an acceptable response but she still does these things. I think the weirdest ones she pulls now is when she complains about how many piercings I have in my ears (I've had the same number since like 1999 so whatever mum~ ) or when she complains about how long my hair is and in the same breath complains that I'm not girly enough.

At this point in my life I just accept that mum makes no sense and just let her rant to her 70-year old heart's content. (although I really wish I could say she was this crazy just cause she's old ^^;; ) Oh, another one she likes to pull is "You should dress like the other girls on campus" "... you mean the ones who wear booty shorts with their ass hanging out the back like a hooker?" "No, the other ones." WHAT other ones, mum ^O__o^;; She's never even been on campus so I think she gets these ideas of how girls "my age" dress from magazines and somehow forgets that I'm not a teenager anymore. (granted, pretty much everyone I meet thinks I'm like 18 but you'd think my mum would remember how old I am :p ) Oh, the other weird thing she pulls. So like I said she wants me to be girly right. I'd always been diametrically opposed to learning how to cook BECAUSE I saw it as girly, but I seriously doubt my future mother-in-law will be happy with me if I can't even feed her son (she hasn't met me yet so I still have time ^^;; ) so about a year ago I started teaching myself how to cook (plus I need to know how to feed our future children). Mum threw a FIT. She was like "WHAT, YOU WANT TO BE A CHEF NOW?!" even though I kept bitching about how I hate cooking. Yes mum, this is why I'm killing myself and spending all this money on tuition trying to get into medical school, cause I want to be a chef. *throws hands up into the air, wanders off*

Anyway, back on topic, since this is not actually a thread about crazy mothers, how do you fake bangs? That sounds like a really interesting idea. Also I forgot about this but usually when I'm studying I just want my hair awaaaaay so I put it up into a bun with hair sticks. I don't know what it is about studying but this is really the only time I do this. I used to braid it and then put it up into a bun with bobby pins but I can't be arsed to do that anymore, so time consuming. ^^;; (I remembered cause of what you said about maintaining hair and summer)

I like to keep my hair pretty long. Right now it reaches about mid bottom. Its thin and VERY straight. So straight it doesn't curl unfortunately. Almost always I keep my hair up in a double bun or a ponytail. Its so freaking windy where I live I cant not have it put up. Occasionally I braid it but that's only if someone else is around to do it for me. I have no ability when it comes to braiding my own hair. XP

@dragon_nataku

You can fake bangs by sectioning the top portion of your hair!

Brush the section upwards with a teasing brush (it will look like this while you're brushing it up xD) then grab and twist the section and lay it flat holding it in front of your face. Now you'll need to position the ends of your hair in front of your face to set the length of the bangs (I like to position them in front of my eyes but not passed my nose or else they'll be too long >.>) then using your fingers spread out your bangs away from your eyes, shaping them all across your forehead until they look nice and pretty.

Now you need to pin your bangs in place so use those long flat barrette clips to hold your bangs in place, add some bobby pins to hold the twisty part in place then you can style it however you like. :) You can also pull your front section into a high ponytail on top of your head and use that for your bangs. Then just position the hair again, pin the bangs and twist the hair on top over your head and pin it before styling your bangs. You'll need to cover the twisted hair on top with a headband or a hat though so no one sees it..

Also unrelated but I love to cook.. seriously. If I didn't cook I'd be broke because I'd spend way too much on prepared foods from grocery and restaurants. xD

I keep my hair longer in the front than in the back. I generally don't cut my hair until it reaches past my mouth in length. I usually wear my hair to a side, usually to the right.

I doubt anyone will believe me, but I used to have hair down to my kneecaps. :( I couldn't brush my hair properly, so my mom had to do it for me and it hurt so bad lol

Then, I got it cut to shoulder length! :D So much better! It's got some natural wave and even though I lose my platinum blonde tips (natural) it's a really nice golden brown.

How do you usually keep your hair?

I have thick black curly-wavy hair that reaches just past my shoulders. It has the ability to quickly transtorm into a monstously frizzy mane that could put Simba to shame and frighten unsuspecting passersby. Once upon a time this was controlled with periodic perms and touch-ups but I've gone natural since. It's usually pulled back in some form or the other.

Do you style it often?

No. Styling is not my forté. The mass used to frustrate me when I was younger and I would always give up. Recently I've been trying but I lose interest if it takes too long.

Do you wear it up or down more often?

Up. I love wearing my hair down, especially when it's straight and feels all silky, but keeping it under control is something I've not yet mastered. Last week I thought I'd try to wear it down in waves. The first day was good but then I began to look less like a lion queen and more like a lion king.

Do you prefer your hair long or short and what's the longest / shortest you've had it?

The longest would be to the middle of my back and the shortest, after it broke off, about 6-8 inches long. I want my hair to be long but I'm having a hard time getting it past my shoulders.

How often do you cut your hair?

Last I had my ends clipped was about a year ago. I need to figure out how to do so without straightening my hair.

What is your hair care routine like?

Shampoo and rinse, then a ton of conditioner. I always comb my hair while its saturated in conditioner because it makes detangling easier. Rinse, towl a little, then I either plait it up or leave it loose. That's when I wash it. Leave-in conditioner is my best friend, but I don't use nearly as much, and some hair oil. Occasionally, if I'm desperate, I'll use hair grease.

Thankfully, my sister is great at doing hair so I'll occasionally let her crochet-braid it or something. I used to want highlights and occasionally think about different hair colors, but I, too, don't want to bleach my hair.

Resuming: I use my hair more often up in the summer, and down in the winter. But genericaly, I use my hair down.
My routine is normal i wash it once two days, and brush everyday, but if I could, i would be bald and never need to care of my hair, i just hate do it.

My hair is a bit past shoulder length now. I usually wear it up.

I'm a guy, and I just comb my hair to the side.

I usually try having a medium-length hair, with a haircut around every season.

My hair is really long and slightly thick, though it has started to thin out recently with it graying in some areas. It's something that runs in my family for all of us to start graying out before 30. I can deal with genetics, but I hate my hair really short. I love the way I look with it long. :p I'll tie it when I'm working around the house, but most of the time I just keep it loose. My routine is the same everyday. I'll take a shower and wash it with shampoo and conditioner and brush it afterwards. I'll brush it in the evening dry.

When I lived down south, it would get unbelievably bushy when I brushed it dry thanks to all the humidity. Up north in the west coast it doesn't get as bad, but it's still more poofy than I care for it to be.

It wasn't always long. I started to grow it out in high school and stayed with the long hair look since. I'll cut it once a year as I don't want it too long to where it would be difficult to brush, but yeah. I love it long. The longest I had it was when it was 30 inches. =D

Funny fact: when I was in kindergarten, I had a school photo taken of myself with a mushroom haircut. I don't know what possessed my parents to do that. It looked horrible!

I had a friend in elementary/middle school who was maybe two years younger than I was but we were pretty good friends cause our parents worked together. Her entire life in elementary school her parents forced her to have that haircut. We used to call her Hongo (Spanish for mushroom) because of it. ^^;; We lost touch years and years ago, pre-Internet days, but I did name my Foongus Natalie after her.

Mushroom haircut seems.. strange. o_O
I would never want it for myself. Did it look like this?

I usually keep my hair short at the sides with more at the top. It doesn't need much styling other than just shampoo, some combing and hair gel. Always wear it up with the frontmost hair actually going vertically up instead of following the flow of the others towards the center/behind, I think it makes me look a bit taller, more like a cool anime character with spiky hair and think it also helps my face look a bit less chubby if people focus on how long the hair at the top looks instead of the cheeks and jaw. Not sure what's the longest I've had it, basically as long as it can still go upwards enough with gel it's OK, then I cut it which is about 1-2 months I think. It's also very thick so I actually ask that they use thinning scissors too for the top while the haircut machine takes care of the sides.

My hair is pretty long, way past my shoulders and goes to my butt, and it's very curly, so I definitely saved some cash on curling irons. I wear it with a pair of hairclips mostly. I dye it twice a year. I brush it 2-3 times a day. That's it. I wear it down all the time, can't see it another way. I prefer my hair as long as possible like now. I usually trim it before dyeing.

As said before, I brush it a few times per day, first right after I wake up, a few during a day and one before sleep. I tried various shampoo and conditioner brands, it was mostly ones from local stores like Pantene ProV, Garnier and L'Oreal stuff. Recently I decided to change my daily set and try something new. From here I found out about Redken and Biolage conditioners. Redken is a decent leave-in one, but I prefer Biolage more, as it suits better for my dyed curls. I also not a fan of hair dryers.

wwhaaat can i still comment lol. my hairs long (like up 2 my waist) and wavy. its like a vulpix' tail cuz it gets tangled easily loool. so i brush it p often too. i just leave it down and slightly straighten my side pieces so its cute yk.. i also have a hair mist (i just checked and it faintly smells like... flowers? its a natural mix of sunflower/olive/coconut/etc oil though) that i use
