So I recently decided that I want to get into writing and changed majors appropriately. I'm still super super unconfident about it and I feel like I have a lot of room to improve, so I'll run around looking for critique. Anyway, in my soulsilvershipping fanfic, I mention a bit of my own take of Silver's past.
Essentially what happened is that I thought that Roark and Silver looked a lot alike, so I figured to make them cousins. If that were the case then that means Silver's mother was from Sinnoh and wrote Silver as growing up there as a child. Then I started to think, where would they have lived? And what could have caused them to eventually move to Kanto?
Well, what if Giovanni was one of the previous owners of the Old Chateau? He certainly had the money to afford it.
Even after Sweeter Than Cake was over, I decided to try my hand at writing out what exactly happened in the OC. It is both my first attempt at writing horror and doing first person POV, so I hope I do good.
Tips and critique would be great as well.

Had I never lived in that house – if you could call it a house - I would have never believed in any of it. I would have never been the kind of kid to whine about ghosts and spirits, and would have instead beat up anybody who ever gave a hint about believing in them, telling them that they were stupid to believe in that childish tripe. I still gave a pounding to any of my classmates which showed any sign of weakness; crying about their mom or their dog, trying to be a teacher’s pet, bringing a stuffed animal to school which they were attached to. It didn’t matter, they were weak and stupid and they got on my nerves. I was definitely not the best behaved and most tolerant kid around, and in that way I haven’t really changed much.
I don’t really remember much from when I was four, but the day my mother, Ariana and I first took a look inside the Old Chateau my father had just bought is clearly imprinted into my mind. My father had recently become Viridian city gym leader and after arguing with my mother, who wanted to stay in Sinnoh, he finally gave in and bought it on the outskirts of Eterna City. We were clearly wealthy since the start, but we hadn’t built it up until many years later (and after Team Rocket was founded) so the low pricetag on the mansion for what it was really convinced my bastard father to buy it. That man hated settling for anything less than ultimate luxury, and if he only had to do some renovations, so be it.
My father placed his heavy coat on a tall wooden coat stand, one of the few pieces of furniture inside the creaky chateau. “Fantastic, isn’t it?” Mother bit her lip, surveying the enormous space with anxiety. She stepped on a loose floor board, and was somewhat startled when it creaked loudly. It was clear to me she hated the place. As any kids, Ariana and I loved the new house simply because it was enormous. Never mind that it was old, dusty and smelled funny, if it meant having a big room it was instantly awesome.
“So what do you think?”
“It’s awesome, daddy!” Ariana was quick to chirp. Despite looking exactly like our mother, she had and continues to have the exact same attitude and greed as our bastard father. I shudder even thinking what would have happened if we came from a more modest background and had to share our toys. Fortunately the only thing we had to share was mom and dad’s attention, though that was more than enough to guarantee a strong sibling rivalry. Clinging onto my mother’s hand, I nodded in agreement before letting go and opening my arms widely. “Really big!”
My mother tried to hide her disdain for the place by putting on a fake smile. After all, she did get to stay in Sinnoh with her family, the children were happy with it, and she had told my father she wanted an older house with character. Yet, even as a four year old I could sense how nervousness emanated from her. Maybe it was a just coincidence, maybe she knew there was something wrong with the mansion since the start, maybe she had simply heard the rumors about it; I’ll never know.
My older sister took this as an opportunity to grab at my hand and drag me up to the second floor, and my short and weak legs struggled to keep up with her going up the stairs. “Let’s go pick out our rooms!” At the top, Ariana opened the door that lead to a hallway.
Even as a kid, I realized that the top floor was unusually dark and cold, though I figured it’d be something that would go away once dad fixed it, whatever it was. Ariana was quick to rush into one of the rooms, trying to find the biggest and best one before I did and leaving me alone to look for an appropriate one myself. Being only four years old, I felt slightly uneasy being alone, and that was a feeling that never really disappeared in the Old Chateau. I slowly walked towards the room right in front of me, and grabbed the door knob above my head (I was always tall for my age) before sharply taking them away. The metal felt extremely cold, as if it had been left in a fridge. As only a child, I didn’t think anything strange about it and rubbed my hands together to warm them up before going at it once more. I backed away slowly, trying to open the seemingly enormous door from behind it when I felt a strong breeze leave the room. I didn’t know it at the time, but even if the window of the room was open it was unlikely such a wind would have come throughout the house as it was surrounded by plenty of trees to block it from happening. Not thinking any of it, I quickly entered. Like the rest of the house, it was old and dusty. At the end of the room was a window which I peered out of. Outside was a forested yard, followed by the servant’s quarters that I was eager to explore as well.
“Guh! It smells bad!”
A strong smell had suddenly permeated the air in the room, and my eyes began to water. There was no denying it, it was thick and heavy smoke, as if a smoker and just puffed rudely into my face. I waved my hands in front of me in a futile attempt to somehow disperse it from my face and nose, but I stopped completely at the sound of a woman’s voice.
“Stupid brat…”
It was definitely an older woman, and she had a very raspy voice as if she had been smoking for at least a couple of decades. Knowing it could not have been my mother, I quickly turned around to face the scary, intruding woman who was not welcomed in my house.
No one was there.
