On 27th February 1996, thirteen years ago today, Pocket Monsters Red and Pocket Monsters Green were released for the Game Boy in Japan. And the rest, as they say far too often, is history.

Altogether now: Happy Birthday to you...

Happy birthday, Pokémon! You're now officially older than most of your fans!

Happy B-day Pokemon. Your show rules!

HA! They'll nevah catch ME! I'm six years older than the Pokemon Franchise and proud!

Oh, and Happy Birthday, Pokemon! Here's to another thirteen years, but not another four generations of Pokemon!

(chuckling with warm bemusement) 13 years, eh? I will admit to starting to pay attention to Pokémon sometime in the late 1990s, and perhaps ironically enough, I'm even more interested in this show now than I was when it first premiered. Of course, my reasons for paying attention to it now may be quite different from my reasons back then, but I suppose that's another story. For now, allow me to wish Pokémon a very happy 13th anniversary and commend Satoshi Tajiri for coming up with this idea -- but more importantly, giving me an initial reason to add Japan into my interest in 21st century international politics.

13 years of Pokemon fun, woo hoo! Happy Birthday Red and Green!

Happy birthday Pokémon and here's to many more years of Pokémon!

Can't believe it's been 13 years already, feels like yesterday I picked up my copy of Pokemon Blue and started playing. Happy Birthday Pokemon!
