Has in-show shipping increased or decreased as the show progressed?

Do you think shipping has increased/descreased/or stayed the same?

I'm mainly talking about in-show shipping, between filler characters, main characters, canon couples (like Butler/Diane from Movie 6), and stuff like that.

Do you think episodes revolving around shipping or romance have increased or decreased as the series progressed?

Or do you think the show has shifted gears to being focused way too much on the Pokemon and the battling, especially in recent series, that interaction among the humans isn't as much as it used to be?

definitely decreased. There used to be so many instances of shipping in the anime, headlined of course by Pokeshipping.

Now, the focus is on battles and contests like you say. Obviously people who have mainly watched the recent DP series only will disagree, but I've been watching since Day 1 almost and it is clear that it was more shippy back in the day.

The amount of shipping is still pretty much the same in the show as it was before. Come to think of it, there hasn't been a lot even then. Anyway, we still do get shipping here and there. Tonio/Alice, Angie's crush, Kenny's (possible) crush.....the list goes on.

How about Alice and Tonio from the 10th movie. They showed romantic interaction in the end of the film, sort of. And there's always Takeshi.

Ah, got beat :(

I think it's more or less the same. I mean, Pokeshipping was more obvious than Pearlshipping is now in my opinion (I love pearlshipping tho), but there are still plenty of ships like JJM said.

The problem with "before" is that my (and others' I'm sure) views of shipping are clouded by the 4Kids nuts who threw in all those Pokeshipping "hints".

As has been said, we've hardly been lacking in canon/onesided ships over recent years (and Takeshi's still around...) I dunno if Houen is counted as recent anymore, but who can deny the shameless plugging of Contestshipping?

And of course, Rocketshipping never died! Muahahahaha! ;-)

It's definitely decreased. Back in the day we had Misty's crush on Ash (which wasn't dub-added, damn it!) and later on the (adorable) interactions with May and Drew.

Now the most we have is Kenny's crush on Dawn, even though he hardly shows up anyway, and Buneary's crush on Pikachu.

After Contestshipping it's gone down, but overall i'd have to say relatively the same. Especially after some blatant Penguinshipping last week and some Lagomorph in the new ending. Yes, Kasumi having a crush on Satoshi was in the original as well, but they didn't exactly do a whole lot with it.

And DP117 was full of win.

Just to clarify, I'm not saying that Pokeshipping was dub added, it's just that my personal view of Kanto.etc. is skewed because 4Kids really milked the ship for all it was worth.

There has been less shipping in DP (without Poke, Contest) since the only one which the writers are trying with (Rocket doesn't count since it's been around since the get-go ;-)) is Penguin which hasn't had much of a chance, what with Kengo having now appeared a grand total of 6/123 episodes.

Sadly, It decreased since AG. I really liked the subtext of ContestShipping, and PokeShipping in the original series!

I think shippings decreased since DP Battle Dimension

That doesn't make sense. That would imply there's been a lot in the previous season for it to actually decrease. And if anything it increases in season 12.

It definitely increased since the beginning, with the as-close-to-canon-as-you-can-get Contestshipping, but if that's not recent enough to count anymore...

Well, there's always Appealshipping.

Well since Barry is in the show too there might be some Twinleafshipping too

Yeah, but outside of Zoey's debut episode, there's really no chemistry between them anymore. Zoey is more or less a second mother to Dawn, reminding her almost the same things Johanna does.

A bit of a shame, I think Zoey would have been more interesting if they kept the lesbian side to her seen in her debut episode.

Also, as far as "retro" goes, is AG honestly that old now? It almost seems wrong to include it back with the classic seasons. AG still feels "new" to me, despite the fact that its been over for awhile. Very strange, because I don't consider that part of the anime to be "old" or "retro." Really gets you to realize how long this show has been going on.

Or Hearttagshipping that ship might be possible if they run into Conway again one of these days

Contestshipping was the only one dealing with a major character that was good for what it was worth. Once she was gone, the shipping went with it. The same will happen to Dawn and Kenny. Out with the old, in with the new. Shippings aren't supposed to be part of this anime anyway.

The problem with "before" is that my (and others' I'm sure) views of shipping are clouded by the 4Kids nuts who threw in all those Pokeshipping "hints".

Count me in. It's because of this that I wonder if there were any Ash-related in-show shippings to begin with. The other ones, like with Brock or some other character, it was visible, and had some romance-related dialogue here and there. I agree that you don't see much of that now.

A bit of a shame, I think Zoey would have been more interesting if they kept the lesbian side to her seen in her debut episode.

This, and Dawn's other "early" personalities.

The thing is, everyone acts as if Poke was somehow HUGE and a really obvious, practically canon ship. But when we compare it to Contest, it really diminishes in size and blatantness. There's been nothing to compare on that scale in DP, if there ever will be.

(If you're offended by my cynicism of Pokeshipping, ignore my post and move on. I dun wanna start some ship war.)

Pokeshipping's peak was the Orange Islands, and then when Johto came along it waned besides Macy having a crush on Ash in the Johto league and Misty being jealous.

There was a lot of Ash/Misty stuff pushed in Orange, the "Scare in the Air" lovebirds comment, the Nidoran episode, both Danny and Rudy's Gym episodes, and the whole subplot in the second movie.

The problem is once Johto came along the writers realized this would be a long-term show, so romance dried up and the writers started shoving in those fillers until the end.

In retrospect, if the writers knew they were going to remove Misty since the beginning, there may not have been all those shipping moments. The problem is when the first two seasons were written, the writers thought Misty would be there forever.

It was somewhere around mid-Johto when they knew they would be removing her for the next arc, (new series take almost 8-12 months of planning), and that's probably why they stopped pushing for that pairing.

The problem is the writers weren't thinking ahead at the time and had no idea what the show would become in the future, which is exactly why Kanto/Orange have a completely different feel to them than all the following seasons. The show felt like a mini-series with Kanto and Orange, we didn't get our "long-extended region" until Johto began.

I think it has definetley decreased. During the first generation there was a lot of pokeshipping hints and in the second generation there was a lot of romance between May and Drew and there is romance in the D/P series but not as much.
