Has Mime Jr. become a useless Pokemon?

What happened? Back in Battle Frontier Mime Jr. was showcased every so often, (remember that Bonsly/Mime Jr. acting in a movie ep?), and ever since DP began its been forgotten.

Seriously, what is the point of giving James Pokemon that he doesn't battle with? The same thing happened with Chimecho back in Hoenn. I realize the writers like to give James "cute" Pokemon like Chimecho/Mime Jr. now because his character has changed, aside from his usual grass Pokemon that bites him, but its become rather pointless.

Its almost as if the writers have no clue what to do with James anymore so all the spotlight now is constantly on Jessie and her Pokemon, while James is often neglected. When was the last time we had a James solo episode? Why did Jessie get all the spotlight in the summer school arc while James did nothing? Why has Meowth been entirely reduced to his bizarre love fantasies with Giovanni?

I think the fact that the characters have lasted for 600 episodes is now finally starting to take its toll.

I realize my topic has shifted to be moreso about TR than Mime Jr., but this is more noticeable in DP than ever before.

Other than this part I agree with you 100%. The only reason I disagree with this is that these perverted fantasies don't happen very often, and the last boss fantasy couldn't have been more tame.

But back to your main point. Manene has indeed become pointless, and I've expressed my dissatisfaction about Kojiro's lack of screen time in the summer school arc and Musashi's overabundance of screen time many times befoe.

What I don't understand is why they stopped with Manene's mimicking. Did the writers realize that two non battling pokemon for the Rocket-Dan just don't work?

As for Kojiro's screen time, I'm hoping that maybe that's why we're doing the Pokeringer thing again. It's only fair he should get to win something. If he doesn't win then I'm just completely at a loss for what the writers are doing.

Mime.Jr? Oh my, I completely forgot that thing existed. And the worst part is, I'm only being half saecastic about it.

But seriously, I don't mind TR's theme of Psychic Pokemon who don't battle. I just wish that Pokemon like Mime.Jr would show up just a bit more. I mean, we have Wobuffet(a Johto Pokemon) showing up a lot more than a Sinnoh Pokemon.....

It needs to appear more but it isn't useless. Not every Pokemon has to battle to shine.

You know even Wobbufett hasn't done much in awhile. I mean we still see it so we know it exists, but otherwise it hasn't done much.

Wobbufett used to be the source of some great comic relief in the past, but they don't really make much of an effort to showcase it anymore.

I have practically forgotton about Mime Jr.. until Bonsly was mentioned, I forgot about that too. Has Mime Jr ever done much than use teeter dance? Thats really all I remember it doing in episodes that it has been used in.

I'm honestly more concerned about Wobbuffet, who used to be Team Rocket's go-to-guy when it came to being a veritable gold mine of amusing antics. He's been around for years now without accomplishing much of anything in the entertainment department, which can be painfully irritating when you look back on his repertoire.
There's only so much you can get out of mimicry, whereas with the blob you don't know what to expect.

Wow, I completely forgot he had Mime Jr. I guess that proves your point.

Indeed, ever since Jesse started participating in contests (and after she actually won one) James has been less prominent. Same thing with Meowth.

I do like Mime Jr, and I think the whole point of him and Chimecho was to show how much James actually cares for his Pokémon and how he really isn't a villain. Or at least, not a very competent one. I really hope that this isn't building up into James leaving Mime Jr. somewhere and getting another cute Psychic-type, because that would too much recycling, even for Pokémon.

As for useless, well, battling was never the point of Mime Jr. anyway, so I wouldn't say that it has "become useless".

Of course, you never know. There really isn't too much episodes focusing on Meowth, so maybe he will get one, or possibly James will get one too. "The Grass-type is always Greener" was kind of a James-centered episode, and I liked it, so maybe they can bring some more, maybe they could even let him capture another Pokémon, which will become a running gag...

Mimey's not useless. He's not a battling Pokemon, but he's not useless. Actually, I think you worded your question badly. As you tend to, really.

I feel like the writers realized they've been neglecting Jessie's characterization (which they have for a long while), but once they started working on it they started neglecting James and Meowth. They really don't know how to work with more than three characters, honestly.

I guess with the large number of new Pokemon that joined the group in DP, older Pokes got ignored. Bonsly was saved because it evolved into Sudowoodo, but Mime Jr. didn't get similar treatment.

It is also because James is neglected. It honestly seems like the only time he stars in an ep anymore is when he captures or releases a Pokemon, like when he gave Cacnea to Gardenia.

Or as said, the insane length of the series has finally taken its toll. The writers have been writing TR for nearly 600 episodes now, there's only so much you can do with the same characters.

Do ALL of your topics point back to the whole 'nooooo, over 600 episodes is baaaad' routine.

Besides, you realize that all television shows suffef from repetition and old cliches after a while. As long as the writers can make it so that I don't instantly realize what episode some idea was used from before, it really doesn't matter.

I just wonder why ever since DP began there's been a drastic decrease in both James/Meowth screentime.

I seem to remember them being focused on still back in Hoenn, Meowth had a crush on May's Skitty in an episode, James had the Pokeringer competition, there was Chimecho and Cacnea, James dressed up as Juan, there was the bickering couple, etc. Now its all Jessie in DP.

And Mime Jr. seems to have been forgotten, poor thing.

To be fair, there is another Pokeringer and Rocket episode coming up. He could have big roles in those episodes for all we know. And I think the chaotic melee in Mio City episode was pretty close to a Nyasu episode.

I still agree with you, but we should wait and see what DP117 and 118 have in store for us.

Well aside from the ep where James gave Cacnea to Gardenia, has James had ANY spotlight eps since DP began?

Some eps focus on Team Rocket as a group, like the one where they were fat, but not James solo.

Well we had the chingling episode, but it did not focus so much on James, but it did slightly as seeing chingling brought back his feelings for his Chimecho which he left behind, but other than that, not since the early D/P episodes, James has not be in focus as much. Jessie has more and Meowth, apart from the boss fantasies a bit with chimchr and one or two other short bits has really not be focused in on much neither as of yet.

Well, hope Wobuffett gets more time to shine again, liked its good old antics before.

Secretly, Scott is getting tired of watching Pokemon so much and new episodes don't give him the same joy anymore. I'm convinced of that now.

Hoenn neglected all three of them, really, but the most neglected was Jessie. James and Meowth got some focus (Meowth alongside May and Max), but Jessie got squat. Like I said, the writers are trying to make up for that and screwing it up on the opposite end.

I have to say the I'm with Scott. There was a reason why I was hoping for a completely new cast for D/P.

Mime Jr. has been shoved more into the background lately. Though, it's probably because its little gimmick has gotten old.

Jessie got the entire contest arc though, even if she sucked at contests back then and cheated in them. Also have you forgotten Jessie and Harley's team-up and interactions in BF?

Or how Jessie and May had a rivalry over their Wurmples in early Hoenn? Or when their two Wurmples were switched? Or when Beautifly and Dustox had a rivalry?

Back then Jessie's Dustox actually had a purpose, it was a direct rival with May's Beautifly. Its only after Beautifly was left behind that Dustox became useless until it won a DP contest.

Saying Jessie didn't get a lot of spotlight in Hoenn, is not really true at all.

I remember that. Remember when she was going to use seviper in a contest and asked it to use moves it could not like sacred fire. But I can see that Jessie got a quite a bit of screentime in AG. I remember when Jessie thought she has a silcoon but it was a cascoon and would not believe it. It was interesting.

Anyway, hoping we see the TR pokemon more

Scott, you must realize that you're correct about Dustox being usind as a rivarly to May's Beautifly, you seem to forget it really doesn't do much.

It appeared in Hoenn at the most what 15 episodes? Boy, sure is a lot of screentime isn't it.

I personally think now James got a little more screentime in episode 2 of DP, what with him catching Carnivine and all. And in that 'All dressed up and somewhere to go' episode, he got more than the usual amount of screentime as well.
