Has XY Set A Precedent With Mega Evolution?

With XY we were introduced to the concept of Mega Evolution, a technique that major characters took advantage of. Including the player character themselves, examples extend to the main rival, the boss of the villainous team and the champion of the region.

ORAS has now entered the scene, and it is no secret that Mega Evolution makes a substantial return. Now the player character once again dons a Mega Stone in addition to the respective bosses of each villainous team. Given this information, it is exceedingly likely that the champion will have one as well.

Thus with all this said, has XY set a precedent for future generations of games regarding Mega Evolution? Will all player characters, bosses of villainous teams, champions, major rivals etc. be able to use Mega Evolution? Will it become a standard? Why or why not? And if you think not, will there be any awkwardness when they do not use Mega Evolution? Especially if the player character can?

Yeah i think from now on all the major characters such as the main rival, champion and the team leader will have a pokemon capable of mega evolving. I just hope they stop having it as part of the plot, it was part of XY plot, it's going to be a part of OR/AS plot and most likely it's going to be in the Z/XY2 plot but it will start to get really boring and stale if it's a part of Gen 7 and the following gens plot.

In some opinion, its nice that they introduced the mega evolution for not only the player but also the rivals, villains, etc. It brought new life to the games that they missed in fifth generation. But at the same time when it becomes overused, then it may make things pretty pale again unless they do something else.

I am excited for the use of Megas in OR/AS and maybe Gen 7 since the idea is still new. However, in some way I don't want to see it in Gen 3 remake so that some of us can relive the memories of just exploring a new region. That's just me though.

I'm OK with it being talked about, but I don't want it to be just another gimmicky plot device. Also, the new trailer briefly showed Steven Stone talk about Mega Evolution, so it's most likely that he'll have a Pokémon that can.

I think after this it will continue being a standard to the series and future players, rivals, champions, and team bosses will have a Pokemon that can Mega Evolve. This is for new generation games to come, as well as remakes~

But after Z, I highly doubt it will still be a plot point. I don't want to see Gen 7 having it as a major plot element, as it's been done in XY, will be done in ORAS, and will probably be in Z. After that, there's no need for it to take such a large focus anymore unless that is the actual theme of the gen (I.E. not randomly shoehorned into the rest of the, presumably, legendary plot). I don't care how much of a mystery it will remain to be, we don't need that mystery to be the focus/secondary focus of every game.

They weren't going to introduce a new battle mechanic for one game only - I don't think it's any more likely to disappear than the physical/special split, and I think it's something they'll want keep messing with. They can give you or withhold as many stones as they want, and they can effectively add new evolutions, limitlessly, half way through a generation, without superceding the critter's core design. The designers seem to be having a lot of fun with it.

I can imagine them saving it for the post-game, though. Maybe the champion has a Mega Ledian, gives you a mega ring, and explains that only trainers who have beaten the Pokémon League are trusted to use them in this region.

Yes, just like how the new fairy-type and happiness based evolutions from Gen II, Mega Evolutions are fully integrated in the Pokemon World. I would love to see how they fully incorporate this in future games but at the same time I don't want them to rub Mega Evolutions in our face. What I meant is I don't want them to make too much of it as it takes away its "special" value to the game.

I will think of it like how Super Saiyan was.

The first time, AMAZING!!!!

The second time, AMAZING BUT SAW IT COMING!!!!!

The third time, YAY!!! NICE TO SEE IT AGAIN!!!!

In general, what I mean, is that it will always be there, but as time goes on, it will be less of an impact on the story of the games. When that will be, however, is Unown.

Mega Evolution is going to reach an over saturation point one day. I think that day will come when every gym leader, every admin, every E4, every villain, and every other main character can mega evolve. Hopefully it never goes past the villain, champ, PC, Rival, and E4 being able to mega evolve.
