having trouble in Zelda: Wind Waker

I'm in the Forbidden Forest, up high in a room where I have to throw a bomb plant at one of those flower things that keeps growing vines, so I can go through a door. I've thrown many bombs so far but it's not working at all, the vines just keep regrowing. What am I doing wrong?
 
The vines are actually indestructible. You need to use the Boomerang to temporally cut them down to get pass them.
 
That's not what I'm talking about, but I tried it again today and it worked. I have no idea why I couldn't get it to work the first time.
