How is everyone holding up elsewhere? What is the highest temperature you experienced?
 
Waiting for our first 100 F/38 C day here in the state of Texas. Temps have flirted with it, but I don't think we've officially hit it yet. The 40 C/104 F heatwave above is really just normal July/August for us. We've been getting more rain this year, so it's actually better than usual, if anything. Humid, yes, but I'd much prefer that over already being in a drought, which is entirely possible down here. Fun fact: Texas is home to around 200 man-made lakes, because if we didn't have a way to stockpile the precious rainwater before summer hits we'd probably all die. :enzap:

I think the highest temperature I've ever experienced was something like 115 F/46 C? Usually the highest high is a few degrees less than that, though.

Pretty much all the buildings here have decent air conditioning out of necessity, so it's not quite as bad as it might sound. Mostly we just avoid being outside for long stretches for a couple months.

...Might be worth noting that the flipside of my "unpleasant but manageable" view of the heat is that I am an absolute wimp when it comes to cold, haha. Less than 60 F/15 C and I'm shivering, less than 50 F/10 C and I feel like the weather is trying to vampirically drain the life from my veins. Give me a blanket or three and leave me there until spring, please.
 
I quite like it when it is cold outside....
We have a lot of those stereotypical soviet buildings here, the kind you see in memes about the Slavic squat and Russian life. It is impossible to install good aircons in them LOL. Simply impossible. ( in a whole lot of them at least) They were built with a completely different climate in mind

Luckily I'm far enough north that we maybe get +35C at worst and it doesn't last. But then again I start overheating at the slightest hint of summer weather :wynaut: Above 25 is already enough to give me heatstroke.
 
summer so far has been absolutely atrocious. it's the reason why i dread it year after year, because going outside is a complete non-starter for me unless i completely have to due to this godforsaken heat. you'd think i'd be used to it by now given the state that i live in, where it's been like this since the dawn of time, but i've never really been a person that's meant for heat and humidity, so...

I have a feeling that europeans are not having fun this summer because air conditioning are rarer there and homes were built with winter in mind instead of summer... which sucks bad and i wish good luck on everyone there

it was also badly hot where I live 1-2 months ago and needed to be either in front of an electric fan or AC to withstand it

Yep. My building certainly was and cannot get a proper AC here. Even a portable would be a problem. They all sold out though. We got the last thermal foil in the shop to cover our windows.. It all sold out.
I'm gonna survive (hopefully) through lifehacks like frozen water bottles in front of a fan
 
We've been hit pretty hard with heatwaves over the last week or so here in the UK. As you can imagine, our buildings were designed for colder weather, so even staying inside from the intense sun has been chaos.

It's starting to cool down now and we've even had a bit of rain which is good for us with gardening projects.
 
i feel for you guys in europe and even in the uk who are unable to get an a/c either because of budget reasons or for regulatory/government/red tape reasons. it'd drive me nuts if it were like 37c and i'd have to jump through hoops to find a way to cool myself other than fans. what's worse is that it's likely every summer from here on out is probably going to feel like hell on earth, because i certainly doubt this is going to be the last heatwave the uk/europe is going to experience. x.x
 
Yeah we will have to think of some longer term solutions and prepare for next time, taking lessons from this summer.
Hopefully the solutions include trying our best to not make global warming worse, at all levels, from institutional to individual lol

The frozen bottle hack really makes things less horrible btw.
 
After the disastrous heatwaves from August 2003 and how I almost fainted back then, I've been extra careful last week : always putting water spray on me before leaving a building, wearing a cap and spraying it with said water spray, and just keep myself hydrated, in and out. I've taken the habit of taking two cold showers a day.

Also, at work we had to adapt our time slots so we'd leave earlier and avoid the biggest part of the heatwaves. On Saturday last night, the thunder finally came in and dampened the heatwaves quite a bit. Now I can stop wearing shorts as a mandatory clothing. For now...

In other words : "Go the heck to sleep, Groudon ! :bulbaFacepalm:
